Islands in the Caribbean

edit

Wondering why you re-organised the page the way you did. Can you explain your reasoning (such a radical change should also be justifed on the Talk page). I think this change loses a lot of information, makes the list less encyclopaedic. And by "inhabited" islands, do you only mean permanently inhabited islands? Thanks Guettarda 13:57, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

It makes sense to have a list of inhabited islands (or semi-inhabited ones) but I'd also like to see a complete list (or as close as we could come). It wouldn't actually be impossible...what do you think about the idea of a fork - inhabited list vs. complete list? Guettarda 19:29, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Caribbean Plate

edit

Hi - you found that new article fast :-). Good added detail. I've done a bit more with it (fixed a bit & added a bit) and written a new Kick-'em-Jenny article - I had never heard of that one before reading your additions - what a name! Thanks for expanding and giving me more to learn. -Vsmith 03:41, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

You did a really nice expansion/organization job with the article on Anegada. It looks much better now. Joyous 12:39, Apr 4, 2005 (UTC)

I set up a Wikipedia:Caribbean Wikipedians' notice board, hopefully to build some community among people from or interested in the Caribbean. I am hoping that we will be able to improve coverage of the wider Caribbean. I hope you will join us and develop the project. Guettarda 1 July 2005 13:43 (UTC)

Interesting. I am currently writing a draft on one of the early governors, Gabriel Milan, and saw while working on a List of Governors of the Danish West Indies that you are interested in the subject. Feel free to take a look and give suggestions. :) Mikkel 06:50, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:HoneymoonBayWaterIsland.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:HoneymoonBayWaterIsland.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:06, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Christopher Columbus' Final Voyage

edit

I see that you made the edit on February 18, 2005 that changed the launch date from May 9 to May 11, 1502. Not that one source is gospel over another, necessarily, but your information contradicts that found in Encyclopaedia Britannica. What information do you have that supports your date? Dumbhick (talk) 11:59, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good catch! As it was 3+ years ago, I don't recall, but http://www.columbusnavigation.com/v4.shtml looks familiar. As for a print source, see http://www.bartleby.com/67/572.html. However, it seems a lot of sources have the May 9 date and http://books.google.com/books?id=MrHK26rMMIQC&pg=PA437&lpg=PA437&dq=columbus+may+11+1502&source=web&ots=0L8oHXIDQl&sig=hyiH3-iUVgp5arX2eQZFpQSJu6M&hl=en has both dates, so I think we should change the article to 'May 9 or 11' with numerous footnotes. Go ahead and do it if you want, or update my talk page and I'll do so. --Gruepig (talk) 17:03, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Image:CaribbeanIslands.png

edit

A tag has been placed on Image:CaribbeanIslands.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:CaribbeanIslands.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Sdrtirs (talk) 07:43, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:French Quarter St Martin.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:French Quarter St Martin.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:01, 2 January 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 08:01, 2 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Systers

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Systers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Cindy(talk to me) 07:57, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, can you provide more details on the copyright of this file, as the original CIA link is dead. I notice at this page at geology.com that the map is used there and the disclaimer suggests the image is copyright. In any case, this page at Brittanica suggests Dominica is in the Windwards but Barbados and Trinidad are not. Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 22:01, 4 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for Sharing Pictures

edit

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture. I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm

Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Caribbean Carnival may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s and 1 "<>"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 06:28, 26 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Contant, U.S. Virgin Islands, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Charlotte Amalie (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
