CvMob decline
Hello, I submitted a new article that was denied for lack of references. The arXiv paper is not enough for the referencing?

Hello Happysailor
Hi Happysailor.
I'm 75.62.135.134 but my IP addresses change periodically. I like your username "Happysailor". I'm new to Wikipedia and I'm currently writing an article about a road. Feel free to help me improve as it needs references that discuss the roads in depth according to Martjin Hoekstra. You can find it here: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Berendo Street and Avenue. Anyway I just wanted to say "Hi" and if you have any questions, messages, or comments feel free to write them on my actual talk page at User talk:75.62.135.134. Comments and messages go in the "Comments" section but you may create a new section underneath all other text with any messages. Same for questions.
Enjoy helping Wikipedia! 75.62.131.69 (talk) 05:00, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi!
Can you be more specific? Which references bother you? The guy that previously rejected the article was at the end after a few changes fine with it.

Dear HappySailor, Should I include other sources such as facebook fanpage or film festival websites listing my films?
I hope you will help me resolve my issue regarding sufficient noteworthy source references.
Thank you :)

adding citations references for a submitted article
Hi Happy Sailor, I must be doing something wrong. I see that just the IMDB reference comes up for the article on Hank Garrett, but I have attempted to submit additional sources. Could you help me figure out what I am doing wrongDmsmith123 (talk) 21:42, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- I've fixed your refs, but you still don't have enough reliable sources to prove notability. Please see WP:42.- Happysailor (Talk) 08:46, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi Happysailor. I would prefer it if the above linked page is not deleted. I find the tagging in itself somewhat annoying to be honest. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 09:31, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the help! My {{helpme}} on the article's talk had been ignored, so I figured I might get faster help this way, but I feared getting a response of "that's not how you do it". AfC submissions
Please do not spontaneously re-activate AfC submission templates if the rationale is no longer valid. The declined templates are a useful guide in helping reviewers understand the evolution of a page. If you think the page is ready to be re-submitted, you can submit it yourself (or submit it on behalf of the creator of the article) with todays date. Hasteur (talk) 13:01, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how knowing a page was blank helps with the history of a submission, and out of the few I did that to, the majority were ones that were'nt blank in the first place, so the decline reason was wrong. - Happysailor (Talk) 09:02, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
Shalom Life
Hi Happy Sailor, I might be doing something wrong. I am trying to upload a page on a publication called Shalom Life, and have used credible sources but am told the sources I've used is not credible. Help???????? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ShalomLife (talk • contribs) 18:41, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- The majority of your sources are from Shalom Life itself (which means they're primary sources, and of no use to show notability), some are blogs which again, are unreliable, so I would have to stand by the decline, in that you do not have any reliable, third party sources. Please see WP:42. I've also dropped a note on your userpage regarding your account name. - Happysailor (Talk) 09:02, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Saga Holidays Page
Hi Happysailor
Thanks for reviewing my page on Saga holidays. I am unsure of what I need to do to get it approved I tried putting some reference data on it to validate the history but alas didn't work.
I work for Saga holidays in Folkestone and want to get a Saga holidays page up to go with our Saga Group and Cruises page.
Can you tell me what I need to do to get the page through ?
Thanks

- All articles must be supported by reliable, third party references that prove the notability of the subject. (See WP:42). At present, your only 'reference' is a link to the companies own page, which is a primary source. - Happysailor (Talk) 12:02, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
Editing Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Rampangga
Wittyjacksparrow (talk) 12:07, 16 August 2013 (UTC)Hi Happysailor. May i please ask what im missing on this article? I have submitted IMDB links to support texts provided. Please let me know.
- iMDB is not an acceptable reference in Wikipedia as it can be edited by 'anyone', just the same that wikipedia is not a valid reference. The other two are primary links to the subject, so again are not valid references. You need reliable, third party references - See WP:42 - Happysailor (Talk) 12:10, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

49.144.174.110 (talk) 23:46, 23 August 2013 (UTC) In line with the note by Happysailor about the notability of the article, i would like to clarify that the company that released the show "Rampangga" is one of the Philippine's top-rated station DWET-FM which also have a wiki page. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Rampangga&action=submit. Its like creating a notable page for an already existing entity. Please see ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs' wiki page. These are not referenced to any third party references. I hope you can consider.
Can you give the instructions on how to add a reference - can't figure it out.Cooperjack22 (talk) 20:52, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
Saga Holidays Page
Wafflesparkle (talk) 15:10, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi Happysailor
I have added some 3rd party references to the page now at the bottom but it has now been rejected as I work for the company. All the content is very neutral and by no means of a sales nature without any links back to the website.
I don't understand why it has been rejected... There are similar pages of content for Saga Group and Saga cruises both of which created by a Saga staff member. Yet these have been published...
Could you let me know why please ?
Thanks

Archiving
Hi Happysailor, thanks for doing a bit of the archiving over at Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Redirects. Would it be possible for you to wait longer before each archive? I always archive a thread at least 24 hours after it is closed so that the person who started it gets a chance to see what the outcome of the request was. If they are removed almost right away an inexperienced editor may think that their request was simply removed and not reviewed, and we need to allow a chance for them to see. Actually, I think I am ok doing all of the manual archiving myself, as I can keep to my own schedule. Perhaps I'll call on you for holiday relief or something. Thanks anyway! Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Shoreham Harbour Lifeboat Station may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "()"s and 2 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

My name (Ben Segal) wrongly redirected
I am resending this message as you didn't reply yet… Hi, at 18:37, 29 April 2014 (UTC) you declined my request to "PLEASE REMOVE THE ERRONEOUS REDIRECT FROM Ben_Segal to Judah_Segal" as it was not a redirect request. Please can you tell me how to delete an erroneous redirect like this one. Thanks a lot, Ben Bsegal (talk) 07:30, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- It doesn't look erroneous to me, the target is often known as Ben, so seems a valid redirect. If you disagree, you can try Redirects for deletion, or you can edit it if you think there is a better target. - Happysailor (Talk) 17:54, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. The link is erroneous because it should point to me (Ben Segal of CERN), not to this (deceased) person Judah Segal just because he had a nickname Ben. So I will follow up the procedure you recommended. Bsegal (talk) 08:20, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
- ok, but who are you? Are you a notable person who has received significant coverage in multiple secondary sources which are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject? If not, then you don't pass the notability criteria.
- Also, we don't point article titles to user pages, and you shouldn't write an article about yourself because that would be a conflict of interest. If you are notable enough for an article, you should wait until someone creates one about you. - Happysailor (Talk) 18:18, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hi again. Yes, I do know about Wiki etiquette and wouldn't write an article on myself. About "notability", I have received coverage in two articles, History_of_the_Internet (Section 6.1, CERN, the European Internet, the link to the Pacific and beyond), and Internet_Hall_of_Fame (as a 2014 inductee under Global Connectors). In the second one in particular it's annoying for a reader who clicks on my name to be redirected to Judah Segal who has nothing to do with the Internet or CERN. So I just want to improve this. If you won't allow deletion of the redirect, maybe the best thing is to remove the entry Ben_Segal altogether (it was not created by me in the first place). How can this be done?
- Bsegal (talk) 12:06, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- Wikipedia articles are not considered reliable secondary sources. To be notable you have to be the subject of significant coverage in multiple secondary sources, such as newspaper articles etc. 'Self-made' websites/articles etc aren't usually considered as such.
- Also, you can't just delete something because it's not what you want. If you don't want the wikipedia articles to point to that redirect, then you can always change where those articles point to. i.e. instead of instead of Ben Segal, it could be Ben Segal (computer scientist). - Happysailor (Talk) 18:09, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm not able to intervene directly because of WP:COS, but I think the following articles would satisfy the notability requirement, based on independence from the subject, non-triviality and scope: discussion in a learned book by a third party, his Internet Society hall of fame citation; and mentions in the press such as this, this and this. There are also interviews conducted by reliable third parties: a European Commission webcast on the history of the internet and an extended interview on Swiss national radio. Personally, I think the best solution would be a dab page for Ben Segal with a red link to Ben Segal (computer scientist), which someone else can then take forward as I feel the Internet Society award and work on TCP/IP easily satisfy WP:ANYBIO. 178.55.0.215 (talk) 13:00, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Fine, I understand better. Who has authority to create Ben Segal (computer scientist) or maybe Ben Segal (CERN)? Do you? Bsegal (talk) 19:19, 2 June 2014 (UTC) By the way, I just noticed that somebody has created a Ben_Segal on Portuguese Wiki, pointing to me… see https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Segal Bsegal (talk) 19:25, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello Happysailor
I see that you have created the page Talk:RNLB James Stevens No. 4 (ON 421) on the 23 May 2014. There seems to be a problem with this title? The article linked to this talk page has been re-directed from RNLB James Stevens No. 4 (ON 421) to List of Lifeboat Disasters in the British Isles#20th century. Don't quite know what has happened here but I think it needs some attention. Dennisbluie (talk) 21:12, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

ICC
Hi
I appreciate your edit and get what you are saying about advertising. However I feel it is necessary to inform Americans how to gain an ICC certificate. The company International Yacht Training IYT is mentioned on this page which is a for profit company based in Canada. Since Yachting Education is an approved RYA training center AND the only RYA training center focusing on making the ICC available to Americans - I believe then it is important to make this information available to sailors in the USA. Given that for profit companies are listed on this page how do you suggest I proceed with this legitimate information for USA citizens with out it sounding like advertising?
I appreciate your feedback and concern for proper information.
Sincerely
Grant Headifen

Lifeboat station fleet tables
Hi, Happysailor - I've recently created New Quay Lifeboat Station and been editing a number of others, but I may not be formatting the fleet tables' contents correctly. Can you advise, please, particularly about dashes? Cheers... Tony Holkham (talk) 21:52, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hey Tony. Heres some info that should help:
- For dates, you need to use the en dash (–) without spaces. (i.e. 1978–1994) - you can find it in Special characters/Symbols next to m³ in the table.
- For class's, you use {{Lbc}} to give Trent-class.
- For ON No's, it looks better if you put ON on each line (i.e. ON 1126)
- For Op. No's, just 47-12 for 'big' boats, but actually D-752 for inshore boats.
- Names should obviously be in italics, and if they have their own article, you link it via the name.
- For other style stuff, class's should always be styled as: Mersey-class, or if you're linking it you can use the {{Lbc}} shortcut (Mersey-class)
- Easy links to lifeboat articles can be done using the {{RNLB}} shortcut. (i.e. RNLB Keith Anderson (ON 1106))
- This ensures that styles are consistent across Wikipedia. I've edited the
firstlast line on the tables in that article so you can see it to do the rest of the table. - Happysailor (Talk) 23:37, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
- That's very helpful, I appreciate it. Hopefully I will get it right! Cheers... Tony Holkham (talk) 08:37, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews
Hello Happysailor. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.
The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.
If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)
If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.
Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.
I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Hi there, I noticed you did previous editing on Template:List of Trimarans. I've been expanding it greatly recently and adding info on new and historical models as well as Category:Multihull designers. Join in if you feel like it! prat (talk) 03:27, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hi prat, unfortunately, I have had to remove most of your addition as navboxes should point to existing articles, and not be a sea of red links. (per Wikipedia:EXISTING). If and when the other trimarans have articles, then they can be added to the navbox. - Happysailor (Talk) 19:18, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
NYSM
The link you undid did not link to the NYS Summer School for the Arts, but instead linked to the New York State Museum. Please correct it.Ri Osraige (talk) 17:15, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
- Looks fixed; thanks.Ri Osraige (talk) 17:16, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
Wire Nut
Hi Happysailor,
I am sorry to hear that you did not find my edit to the WIRE-NUT page helpful. The page was basically blank and redirected to a page that improperly uses our mark. As a brand owner, we are required to police our mark to ensure proper use, in order to protect it. Our mark has been registered since 1960 and it is a very important part of our history and our product lines. So, we are on a mission to correct the misuse of our mark and to educate end-users. By adding the information that the term was a registered trademark, we are informing end users that the term is not a generic mark. I hope this helps you understand our reasoning behind it.
Thank you,

- While i can sympathise about protecting trademarks, Wikipedia is not the place to do that. The page you edited (Wire Nut) was not 'basically blank', but is a redirect for a common term people use in relation to Twist-on wire connectors. - Happysailor (Talk) 22:48, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Final warning by JTWC. I'm sorry ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.174.215.245 (talk) 15:35, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
- FYI I have re-reverted the IP because the Japan Meteorological Agency, the official warning center for the basin, has not done the same.--Jasper Deng (talk) 16:17, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Hello!
So sorry for making the edit, my brother was on my pc.
Thanks,

- May I suggest not saving account passwords, or create a different account for your brother, as if that continues, your account may eventually be blocked, and the it was my brother' argument won't get you unblocked. - Happysailor (Talk) 19:25, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
A kitten for you!

I just wanted to see if it actually worked that you could change wikipedia thank yo ufor reverting it back to its original state — Preceding unsigned comment added by Appledippers 18 (talk • contribs) 19:07, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
- I would advise that you use your sandbox for editing tests rather than live articles in the future. - Happysailor (Talk) 19:24, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
My revert
re this = i gave an explantion (See Talk) , and thre's a discussion on the talk page expalining it, namely: this and this. Please undo you your revert. All Rows4 (talk) 19:14, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Nothing in the talk page explains the deletion of sourced material from the article. There is currently a discussion taking place regarding the title of the article, but nothing explaining your deletion.- Re-reading it, I see now what you mean. I would suggest in future when you do an I agree, you make it a bit clearer what you're agreeing to. - Happysailor (Talk) 19:23, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
- Sure, I could be more verbose next time. Thanks for undoing your edit. All Rows4 (talk) 19:33, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Vandalism warning
Hello, I'm Kendrick7. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Battle of Shuja'iyya because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. -- Kendrick7talk
- Wow, really? templating an experienced editor with a vandalism warning. I suggest you take a look at the article's talk page, and the conversation higher up on this page. Also, since that wasn't anywhere near vandalism (What was I vandalising by reverting my own revert?), I would be very careful about throwing that word around willy-nilly, let alone at an experienced editor who deals with alot of vandalism in the future. - Happysailor (Talk) 16:51, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
- My apologies, and I endorse your striking of my own words; all I saw was a bunch of reliable sources were removed from the article, which I consider a big no-no per WP:PRESERVE. If I'd realized it was a self-revert, I would have 'plated the other guy just the same. If removing relevant reliable sources from Wikipedia en masse isn't vandalism, I don't know what is. Besides of which, edit warring over which side of the conflict gets to call an attack by the other side a massacre or not has been a huge headache in the past and is a small part of why the whole subject is on 1RR probation. -- Kendrick7talk 01:12, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
TESCO_Bukit_Tinggi_station
Hi, With regards to the changes of this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TESCO_Bukit_Tinggi_station
It was done intentionally and the more appropriate page would be: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TESCO_Bukit_Tinggi_LRT_Station
and have the former page being re-directed to the new and more appropriate page.
I take note on the need to put in comments and will do that in the future, thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.106.113.58 (talk) 13:59, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
- I reverted your edits because you are copy/pasting an article to move it, this is NOT the way to do it. If you think the article should be named something else, move the article, not the content. - Happysailor (Talk) 16:41, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
