Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Ranjit Singh into Draft:Military campaigns of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 20:55, 18 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission, as you did at Indian campaign of Ahmad Shah Durrani. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  DanCherek (talk) 00:28, 4 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have applied this indefinite block because you keep copying text from elsewhere into Wikipedia, in spite of previous warnings like the one right above as well as this one. If you wish to request an unblock, please follow the instructions in the above notice and submit an unblock request that demonstrates your understanding of Wikipedia's copyright policy, and a commitment to following it in the future. DanCherek (talk) 00:42, 4 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sorry sir for repeating my mistake DanCherek I tried to take full care of copyright this time. So I took sources from different books. But in every book exactly same to same is written, that's why this happened., I apologize to you, Can you please tell me how can I apeal about this block, Maybe I shouldn't edit on historical articles anymore because they tend to be very complicated. I will focus more on other categories article if you unblock me. --Jisshu (talk)

Request reason:

After being blocked I am gathering information about copyright so that I can understand it better, Copyright is a intellectual property that protect original work we cannot used copyright content without permission of copy right holder and I also come to know that Wikipedia is subjected to US copyright law in this matter and may not host material which infringes US copyright law because of which copyright content not allowed on Wikipedia we can use Copyright content on Wikipedia if the owners give permission if you unblock me and forgave me to avoid violating the copyright policy I will not edit historical pages anymore because they tend to very complicated I will now on focus on other categories article if I use Copyright content I will do so from Wikipedia

Decline reason:

These answers are not generally correct. Copyright law is not intellectual property. You've missed all of WP:FAIRUSE. Copyrighted content is allowed on Wikipedia. Indeed, almost all content on Wikipedia is copyrighted. Yamla (talk) 12:22, 4 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I have been trying understand copyright better for the past few days and am I taking time, Copyright are exclusive rights granted to the owners of an original work including right to copy distribute and adapt the work it helps protect owners from other people copying their work without permission, a work only be copied if the owners give permission, Because the database servers are located in USA, Wikipedia is subjected to US copyright law in this matter and cannot host material that infringes US copyright law There is expcetion to the rules of the copyright called fair use, Fair use is doctrine in United States law that permit limited use of copyright material for criticism commentary, news reporting teaching etc I will take care of all this things so that I don't make such mistake again in future please forgive me and unblock me

Decline reason:

Reading through the attempts to paraphrase cited sources below, I'm afraid that the resulting text still copies too much from the original to comply with copyright. signed, Rosguill talk 06:02, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for explaining what copyright is. Please answer the following questions below to help administrators determine that you understand how to avoid this mistake in the future:

  1. What articles did you add copyright material to?
  1. How can editors add information from sources without infringing on copyright?
  2. Please give an example of an article that you would like to add information to. Please provide a brief example (one sentence) of something you would add to the article that demonstrates that you understand copyright. Ensure that the example is cited.

Feel free to ping me if you have any questions. Z1720 (talk) 20:43, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

  1. I added copyright material in mostly historical articles like Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, Ahmad Shah Durrani Invasions of India and many other historical articles
  2. Editors can add information from sources without infringing on copyright by Paraphrase the original text by using their own words to convey the same meaning as the original source or work this involves changing the sentence structure and wording of the original text while retaining the main idea, editar must always attributes any information or ideas they take from other sources by giving credit to the original work by including a citation or reference, Editor can seek permission from the owner of the original work,
  3. If I got unlocked I will add mostly sports related article I will make sure that I will not violate Wikipedia copyright policy

Hi Jisshu, please ensure that you sign your posts by adding four tildes (like this: ~~~~). This will let Wikipedia editors know who is saying something on a talk page and timestamp it. To demonstrate your skills in paraphrasing work, please pick a Wikipedia article that you would like to add content to. In an edit below, please post what information you would like to add to the article, paraphrasing information from a source (a sentence or two will suffice). Do not forget to cite your work. Can you use an English source, and write a longer sentence or two? Thanks, Z1720 (talk) 21:38, 24 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I request unblock for my account, User:Jassu712. My this account, User:Jisshu, was blocked due to Wikipedia:Copyright violations. I acknowledge and take full responsibility for my past actions.

Upon reflection, I realized creating a new account, User:Jassu712, to evade the initial block was a violation of Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry. I take full and unequivocal responsibility for my unethical actions, acknowledging that evading a block by creating a new account was a serious mistake.

To prevent future copyright violations, I will:

  • Verify sources' copyright status before uploading.
  • Use public domain or Creative Commons-licensed materials.
  • Properly cite sources and provide attribution.
  • Avoid copying content from external sources without permission.
  • Use Wikipedia's built-in citation tools.

I assure you:

  • I will use only User:Jassu712 for editing.

Request reason:

First of all, I would like to apologize. Actually, I used ChatGpt to improve my grammar. First, I would like to tell you about my original block, my first account was blocked due to copyright violation. Earlier, I did not have much knowledge about copyright policy. But now I understand The Wikimedia Foundation follows US Copyright Law, but also encouraged to respect international copyright law too even if they don't have have formal agreement with the US as stated in Wikipedia:Non-US copyrights, I also know now how copyrights violation can be avoided For Example * Paraphrase or Summarize source material in my own words, adding inline citations as required by the sourcing policy. * Use of Public domain * Re-using content available with in Wikipedia as outlined in Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Reusing Wikipedia content * Request Permission from the Copyright Holder My second account was blocked because of Sockpuppet. I created a second account to avoid my first block. Which was very wrong and I take full responsibility for it. I assure you that I will not do anything that violates Wikipedia's policy again. If my account gets unblocked. I will just use my User:Jassu712 account I now understand that I was blocked not as a punishment, but to prevent further desruptive edits, I am very much interested in contributing to Wikipedia, so I assure you. If I am unblocked, I will not do anything that further violates Wikipedia policy

Accept reason:

The appelant has answered a series of questions, been educated about copyright, acknlowedged their past errors and agreed to stick to one account. I think that is sufficient for a second chance. El Beeblerino if you're not into the whole brevity thing 23:04, 17 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jisshu, if you're using ChatGPT to improve your grammar, is that because English isn't your first language? Do you know that you're only blocked on the English-language Wikipedia? You can edit on whatever other language Wikipedia you like, since you're not globally banned. For example, you can get to Hindi Wikipedia here, and you've already got an account there: [1]. -- asilvering (talk) 22:43, 8 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I agree with you Sir, but I am gradually improving my English and I have been editing Wikipedia for a long time. Jisshu (talk) 06:50, 9 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
And I would love to continue contributing to the English Wikipedia without violating any Wikipedia policy. Jisshu (talk) 06:51, 9 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
asilvering It's been a month. I am not getting any reply. I know. Wikipedia admins are very busy since many unblock requests come almost every day. But I should also know what progress is being made on my unblock request, If you have any question regarding my knowledge on copyright, Sockpuppet policy etc, you can ask me.I am completely ready to cooperate. I hope you can reply me sir Jisshu (talk) 09:53, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Jisshu, I don't think any progress has occurred, since if it had I presume someone would have replied here or actioned the unblock request. I do have some questions for you:
In order to lift the block, we need to be certain that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia. Please respond to the following questions, explaining in your own words:
  • What is copyright?
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?
Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. Again, please be sure to use your own words. It's fine to make mistakes in your English. If you use AI generation or translation software to write your responses, it makes it much harder for us to determine whether you've actually understood the questions and their answers. -- asilvering (talk) 14:43, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
okay sir i will answer your question based on my understanding Jisshu (talk) 16:29, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Answer: Copyright is law that protects orginal work of copyright holder for example Book's movie art's music etc
Jisshu (talk) 16:39, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Jisshu (talk) 16:42, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • copyrighted content are not allowed in Wikipedia because it's an orginal work which owned by copyright holder, for example: Book music, movie, art's etc, We can't use copyright content in Wikipedia without Copyright Holder permission, it will be illegal if Wikipedia use copyright content without Copyright Holder permission

User:asilvering Sir these is My answer regarding copyright Jisshu (talk) 17:12, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
In your "avoid copyright violations by" answer, you mention a lot of things that can be done to avoid copyright violations, but most of them aren't things we actually do in practice all that often. I see you received a copyright violation notice for edits you made to Jassa Singh Ahluwalia. Can you explain why a particular one of those edits was a copyright violation, and how you would make an edit to that article that used the same source, but didn't violate copyright? -- asilvering (talk) 17:51, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
asilvering It's because I didn't paraphrase properly, i copied it exactly from History of the Sikh by Hari Ram Gupta even after getting the repeated warning i have now learned to paraphrase or Summarize properly and i also have a better knowledge of reliable sources now although, i am not perfect but i assure you that, I will not repeat the past mistakes again i have also been contributing to Simple English Wikipedia for a while after being blocked. i created articles on Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, Nawab Kapur Singh and some other Sikh Worrier on Simple English Wikipedia Jisshu (talk) 07:22, 9 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
thanks you so much sir Beeblebrox for giving me second chance and asilvering for your guidance I will not disappoint you for giving me a second chance. Jisshu (talk) 11:38, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

asilvering, Hello sir, I just checked my old edits again today, most of which i found to have copyright violations because i copied and pasted exactly from History of the Sikh By Hari Ram Gupta Books Specially Jassa Singh Ramgarhia and Jassa Singh Ahluwalia page including some other articles like Indian campaign of Ahmad Shah Durrani and as i said in my previous answers I can avoid copyright violation through paraphrasing and summarize specialy for history related pages and i also take a lot of help from Ai tools for paraphrasing however I search for reliable sources on my own.. i hope i can get another chance. Jisshu (talk) 14:33, 15 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Oh no - please, don't use AI tools to help you avoid plagiarism! AI tools are actually pretty likely to cause plagiarism that you're not even aware of. That doesn't mean you need to go and scrub everything you wrote on simple-wiki, but please don't use them anymore.
As far as I'm concerned, all that needs to happen for this unblock request to be accepted is for someone to check your contributions on simple-wiki to make sure they're not close paraphrasing or copyvio. I had a look at your articles there, but it's not easy to check for accidental copyright violation or plagiarism because you don't provide page numbers in your footnotes. I'm not going to decline this unblock request, since I haven't seen evidence that you're still making copyvios, but I'm not presently in a position to accept it, either. -- asilvering (talk) 02:50, 16 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
asilvering oh okay sir i provide Page number in simpl-wiki so it's can become easier for you and I will not used ai tool as you said since it's can create problem thanks you for your guidance Jisshu (talk) 06:13, 16 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Beeblebrox, it looks like you didn't check any of this editor's contributions before unblocking? -- asilvering (talk) 16:47, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you are implying that what you wrote above was or is binding on any reviewing admin, I'm afraid I don't agree. El Beeblerino if you're not into the whole brevity thing 21:01, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations on getting unblocked

edit

Hello @Jisshu , I wanted to congratulate you on your unblock. I see we edit in the same topic areas (Sikh history), so I am looking forward to seeing your edits that will improve Wikipedia's coverage of this area. I have seen your edits in the past and thought they added a lot of valuable information to many articles.

On the Sukerchakia Misl article, the early history of the Sukerchakia family was removed. Regarding Jat clans (got or gotra), it is not unusual for newer Jat clans to form and separate from larger, more established clans, these newly separated clans are often then named after toponyms. It is very likely the parent clan of the Sansi and Sukerchakia clans was Warraich, hence why an early ancestor of Ranjit Singh was identified as a Warraich. The section also discussed the migration patterns of the family, their locations of habitation at various periods of time, and how they became associated with the Sansi tribe (which often confuses people and makes them assume that Ranjit Singh was a Sansi rather than a Jat, so that section I had written helped clear up that confusion). It is clear Buddh Singh was the first to adopt Khalsa Sikhism, but as the sources show, earlier ancestors, such as Baru, were basically Nanakpanthis. That section that was removed was supported by various sources, including one written by G. S. Chhabra, a professor, and sources published by the Institute of Sikh Studies and in the periodical titled The Sikh Review. I believe removing it will oversimplify the article and remove valuable historical nuance that needs to be understood for readers to grasp the complex history of the family. I hope we can have a fruitful discussion on this matter.

Kind regards, MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 14:28, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

MaplesyrupSushi thank you brother regarding Ranjit Singh Ancestors. According to GS Chhabra's book, Ranjit Singh's first known ancestors were Warraich Jatts. However, it's mentioned that Ranjit Singh's great-great-grandfather, Budha Singh, was a Sansi Jatt. If Ranjit Singh's first ancestors were indeed Warraich Jatts, why is Budha Singh identified as a Sansi Jatt?Jisshu (talk) 14:37, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Jisshu - As explained in the initial post, new Jat clans tend to form out of larger, more established clans. This fact is recounted in colonial-era literature, such as district gazetteers. I suspect that Sansi was a child clan from the Warraichs. The sources identify his earliest ancestor as a Warraich. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 14:41, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
regarding Ranjit Singh ancestors Jisshu (talk) 14:37, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
And it is not that I did not try to know much, I tried to double verify in many historical books but I did not find much. The first known ancestors of Ranjit Singh is believed to be Budh Singh in most of books. Jisshu (talk) 14:40, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Jisshu - There were four sources that supported that early family history section I had added to the article. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 14:42, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
okay i will verify them again please wait Jisshu (talk) 14:44, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Jisshu - Thank you for working together with me on resolving this. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 14:45, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
No problem I checked sources but their are still some dispute regarding Budha Singh according to Hari Ram Gupta he accepted Sikhism to wash away his sins and according to GS chabra he accepted Sikh due to his father last wish theirs is also dispute about his death different author mentioned different date Hari Ram 1715 Kushwant Singh 1718 what should we do then ? Jisshu (talk) 14:54, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Jisshu - We can provide both views/theories on the article. That would be the most neutral approach. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 14:56, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
okay go ahead i agree with you, you can add all remove information about Ranjit Singh Ancestors since it's already mentioned in that section it's disputed so I don't think it's a problem anymore just don't forget to mention my theory too Jisshu (talk) 14:59, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Jisshu - Yes, of course. Thank you for reaching an agreement with me. I am looking forward to possibly collaborating with you in the future. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 15:00, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
