Thank you so much for posting a link to that poem; I enjoyed reading it immensely, though in truth, my "flowing beard is all the go" not due to any dangers of shaving, but simply because I enjoy the shadow it casts. Cheers. -- ToE 11:59, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, I really like it too. We 'studied' it way back in primary school and I've always enjoyed it; Banjo Paterson has some good work. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 08:48, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Will you take a look...
at the heart diagram nomination? I meant to ask you to do that a few days ago, but I forgot. Since you had some concerns during the original nomination, I'd like to know if they're addressed to your satisfaction. The nomination looks like it will pass regardless, but I'd appreciate it if you could take a quick look. Thanks! Makeemlighter (talk) 01:27, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- Personally I can't see that it's much different in terms of the thickness of the ventricle walls, etc, but seems to be well supported. I really don't like the right ventricle looking so much bigger than the left, but looks like that's got the nod. Also left a note on the pending promotion re the left atrium disappearing when you click through the image page. --jjron (talk) 15:31, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I've uploaded a tilt-corrected version of the nominated image File:Mount Everest as seen from Drukair2.jpg. As you have already voted at the nomination (linked above), could you please give some feedback or show a preference between the original file and the new file? Thanks. Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:55, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- Done. FWIW I can't tell much diff between the two tilt corrected edits and can't be bothered analysing them in detail to decide, so whichever is OK with me. --jjron (talk) 05:47, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Floury Baker cicada concerns
Hi. Since you initially raised the issue with this nomination, will you make a note whether your concerns have been addressed? The nomination looks to be a pass with three users' support contingent on that issue. Thanks. Makeemlighter (talk) 21:57, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

GOCE March copy edit drive
Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors
The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their March 2012 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on March 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on March 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goal for the drive will be to eliminate the remaining 2010 articles from the queue. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa, Stfg, and Coordinator emeritus SMasters. 19:40, 20 February 2012 (UTC) To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list. |

Hemerocallis Lilioasphodelus.jpg
Hi JJ, thank you for warning me. I had not been warned of the discussion. I have little time now, I'll do some more research tomorrow, I just wanted to tell you I'm convinced it is Hemerocallis l., from the research I did about flowers found in Venezuela. I found out H. sp. is commonly exported and breeds throughout the world. My picture shows a cultivated flower of a little town I visited. I found out lilioasphodelus is one of the most common Hemerocallis in Venezuela and did a lot of comparisons among H. flowers. The only one coinciding with my specimen was lilioasphodelus. I can't be sure 100%, but it would be nice if you guys don't delist it already, because most probably it is well identified. I even have Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus at home in my garden, they are pretty common here. I will try to provide proof that it is the correct species tomorrow. Thank you very much for the warning, I appreciate it. Have a good day. Regards, --Paolo Costa 06:14, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
GOCE March drive newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter. Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us! Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far. Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers. Your drive coordinators – Dianna (talk), Stfg (talk), and Dank (talk)To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list. |

Use of an image
Hi Jjron - Could I possibly request a hi res image of the picture you took of an Eastern Long Necked Turtle, it's for a youth science/educational magazine called Flipside

Could you advise us on costs and terms
It's quite urgent

- Hi, sorry, I've been travelling and haven't been on Wikipedia in a couple of months. Not sure if this is too late now.
- If you are able to log in with a basic account (takes about 30secs to create) you'll be able to get a link to email me if you want, which may be easier. Unfortunately I'm not carrying all my photos with me on the road, but will be back with them by the weekend if that's not too late.
- Depending on usage (size of image as it will be used, distribution of publication, etc), if it's for commercial purposes people have paid anything up to $500 for whatever usage you intend (not to purchase the copyright or resale rights though). If you're talking fairly small scale usage it could be considerably less. For non-profit educational or personal use I don't usually charge at all. Perhaps easier to negotiate if you could email me.
- Cheers, jjron.

Los Angeles
I've seen several FPC noms from you in the Los Angeles area. Are you living here now, or was that just a vacation? If you're in town in ten days' time, I invite you to come to the Los Angeles Wikinic, which I'm organizing. —howcheng {chat} 22:36, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- No, sorry, was only in LA for three days in late March, before moving on to San Fran and then across to the south and the east coast until early May. You'll probably get to see some of those pics too at FPC. ;) I'm sometimes surprised given the population over there, and I must say even the number of people I saw with decent cameras as I travelled, how there can be a lack of good photos of even notable places at times on WP. I'm now back at home (and back at work). Thanks for the offer though. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 08:32, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Re: FPC
You should really just take a deep breath and realize that there aren't people out to get you, just people trying to uphold the rules. You seem to be getting way too upset over this. We didn't make copyright law, we just try to obey it as best we can. -RunningOnBrains(talk) 15:40, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- Please revisit the situation and try to actually understand it. As is, based on this sort of nonsense behaviour, I am reconsidering any further contributions of my work to Wikimedia/Wikipedia. --jjron (talk) 14:22, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I've been working on a small game built around animal quizzes and I wanted to let you know I've used one of your pictures.
I found your picture here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:07._Camel_Profile,_near_Silverton,_NSW,_07.07.2007.jpg
And I attributed the picture like this: John O'Neill with this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jjron and also added a link to the license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/deed.en
I hope you're happy with it, please let me know if this is not the case. You can find the game here: http://apps.facebook.com/animalalbum Or through here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/AnimalAlbum/156339584490672

Photo Usage
Hello Mr. O'Neill,
I am interested in using the image located at http://commons.wikimedia.org wiki/File:10_Cable_Car_on_Hyde_St_with_Alcatraz,_SF,_CA,_jjron_25.03.2012.jpg in a soon-to-be-published non-fiction book set in Francisco. Please inform me of any and all applicable licensing regulations and/or fees associated with this usage and what steps I should take to expedite the process.
Thank you,

- Hi Stephen. Thanks for your request. As shown on the image page my images are licensed under the GFDL licensing. If you want less restrictive licensing we can negotiate terms. These vary depending on your usage (scope, personal/educational/commercial usage, etc). I most likely have this image available at a higher resolution too. If you'd like to email me to discuss this further please use the link on the left of this page, or try this link to the email form Special:EmailUser/Jjron. Sign painting FPC
Hi John. I see that the image you nominated at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Sign painting was kept at the Commons deletion request. Rather than re-open the nomination, I'd prefer to close it and let you re-nominate. That will make the whole process a little neater. Is that okay with you? Cheers, Makeemlighter (talk) 22:48, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I guess someone went ahead and re-opened it. Anyway, I hope all goes well in your life. Best, Makeemlighter (talk) 00:12, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Makeem. Thanks for the notifications. Meh, I thought I withdrew that nomination when the trouble started. I doubt it has any chance of succeeding now. I have a few other existing images that I might nom at FPC some time if I get around to it, and just leave it at that, I'm not particularly fussed. As you may have noticed I haven't been participating at all around here. I may do a bit more editing at some point, but at this stage I probably won't be contributing any more images to Wikipedia. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 15:45, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Photo Use
Hello John, I am a freelance photo researcher working on obtaining images for an upcoming Travel and Leisure website slide show. Please note that this project is not educational but commercial. I would like to find out if you would be willing to let us license your image of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in LA, CA. The use would be for a slide show on Travel and Leisure.com's website running from October 19th through December 31. Would you be willing to let us license this image for a fee for this type of commercial use? It won't be used in print only online. The slide show is showing the favorite places to visit in four usa cities. I appreciate your help with my request. I wasn't able to connect with the PR office at the Music Center at the time of my production deadline, so I showed my client your image and it was selected. However, I understand if you don't want it used in this manner, but we can pay a fee and also show your photo credit online below the photo. Thank You for the Wikipedia Picture
Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Everlastings_on_MtHotham_Vic.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:
http://www.freeenglishsite.com/
I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm
2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm
3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm
Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.
Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely, Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

- Thank you for the information Duane. Your site sounds interesting, and a real labour of love! Glad you could find a use for my picture. You are welcome to use any other pictures I have contributed too - just be aware many of them carry a GFDL license, which means they are still usable, but their reuse is more restrictive. If you contact me about the usage I will often be willing to provide you with less restrictive terms for no cost for a project such as you describe. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 13:47, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
