Your edits to Military of the Republic of China

edit

Hey there. I notice you've been adding information on arms purchases and visits to the US. Although that may be useful, I think you're copy-and-pasting information from news articles without sources. Really you're inserting too much information - you should add a brief summary of what's happening - one or two lines - with full citations as used elsewhere in the article. Otherwise it forces someone else to clean it up.

Please summarise the material you added to a much briefer format and add citations. Thanks, John Smith's 11:51, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:NATO Troops with game interface.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:NATO Troops with game interface.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Pricing in World in Conflict

edit

Hi. It doesn't matter if the pricing is official, confirmed, or you have sources for it. The bottom line is, it's convention not to include them (other editors also think it's not relevant to the article). If people want to know what price a game is, they can check Amazon or their local shops. Just because information is useful doesn't mean it should be included in an article. Thanks! World in Conflict Tables

edit

Hi. Wikipedia is for information, yes, but not all information is encyclopedic. Like I said above, just because information is useful doesn't mean it should be included. The table of the cost, deployment and recharge time of each tactical aid is one such piece of information. It's something you might find at GameFaqs, or in the game's manual itself, but it shouldn't be on Wikipedia. Hence, per WP:NOT, I removed it. Thanks! Fin© 10:13, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello again. I've removed the list of tactical aids again, as it read like a game guide/manual and was far too descriptive. Try to stay away from over describing minor elements of games, instead provide a short overview paragraph. Thanks! Fin© 13:25, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

WiC Genre

edit

I changed the genre to RTT after a discussion in the talk section in which 3 people (including myself) were in favor of the change and one against. I made the change and put in a citation to an interview in which the developers described it as an RTT. If you think it should be RTS and not RTT then you should continue the discussion in the WiC article, and not just change revert it without saying anything. 24.167.151.237 18:42, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

User warnings.

edit

Hi Kliu, nice to meet a fellow game addict. ;-) Anyway, to answer your questions, you can find the most common templates here: User:AndonicO/Vandalism Templates (the actual page where all the templates are is too long, so I keep it there in case someone wants to know). For example, if the person vandalizing hasn't been given a warning, and the edit appears to be a test (for example, someone added "hi" at the top of the page), use a {{subst:test1}}, or a {{subst:uw-vandalism1}}. If it's their first warning, and it's severe vandalism (cursing, or if on a biography adding nonsense about the person), use a "level 2 warning" ({{subst:test2}}, or {{subst:uw-vandalism2}}. If it's their second time, and it's not severe vandalism, use a level 2. If it's the second time, and it is severe, use a level 3. Third time, non severe, you could use a level 3, or a level 4 warning. If it's the third, and it's severe, use a level 4, straight away. If they keep vandalizing after a level 4 (check the time on the warner's signature, and the time of the last edit to make sure it's actually after), report them to WP:AIV, and an administrator will block them quite soon. Hope that's not too confusing: if I didn't make myself clear, just say so. · AndonicO Talk 23:42, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

P.S. You could try the warnings at the sandbox: just copy and paste them as you see them here. · AndonicO Talk 23:42, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:World In Conflict Taiwan Metallic USA Design Boxart.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 06:34, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Duplicate images uploaded

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:WIC Taiwan Metallic USA Boxart.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:World In Conflict Taiwan Metallic USA Design Boxart.jpg. The copy called Image:World In Conflict Taiwan Metallic USA Design Boxart.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 07:00, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:WIC Taiwan Metallic USA Boxart.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:WIC Taiwan Metallic USA Boxart.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Plot Edits to World in Conflict

edit

My plot edits were a neutral change to the article, no view other than what is available to players of the game has been represented. All of my edits to the article can be verified from the in-game materials. Grammar edits were needed for better clarity and certain details, such as the reasons for the Soviet attacks, were summarized or, where redundant, left out in an effort to keep the article from violating Wikipedia article policy. Personal information, such as Colonel Sawyer's "crisis of conscience" during the war or Bannon's reference of guilt can be placed in a characters section if anyone is willing to start one (did he really have 'pangs of conscience' for the rest of his life?). Other information such as the Spetsnaz occupation of Liberty Island or the real reason for the defense of Fort Teller were added in as important plot points. The naval base at Norfolk is an educated guess as to the actual target since it is referred to only as "Norfolk" in the cinematic describing the aftermath of the Murmansk operation in the game. The painted still showing Soviet subs launching an attack on what appear to be military ships in harbor lend some credence to this. I have reverted the article back to my previous edit for these reasons.Voracious Reader 15:47, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

World in Conflict, Taiwan

edit

Hi. No, I'm not racist, and please do not jump to such completely rash decisions in the future. I'm simply following guidelines from Template_talk:Infobox_CVG/Syntax_Guide. They state, as regards release dates, "Use the first public non-festival release in the game's country of origin, as well as any English-language release dates available.". Taiwan is not English-language, and therefore, is not relevant. I'm removed it again in line with this guideline. Again, please do not use person attacks in the future, when you question an author's motive. Thanks. Fin© 09:27, 11 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Furthermore, I have a suggestion. I've been looking at the "Sky Bow" articles. I thought it would make more sense if there was just one article for them, rather than three, given they're so short. Do I have your support to merge them at some point? John Smith's 19:24, 14 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kliu, this might sound really weird but when are you next in Taiwan? Only I was wondering if you or someone you know could take a few military Taiwanese pictures and then upload them on to the project. We're really missing pictures on the ROCN, specifically the Perry and Kang Ding frigates, as well as the Hai Lung submarines. There are some already here but they're fair use and likely to be deleted. Any chance you could help? John Smith's (talk) 20:34, 20 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you could basically as many naval photos as you can up close and personal while on holiday that would really help the project. Hope you have a nice time there. :) John Smith's (talk) 22:03, 20 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Could you please update your pictures with things like when you took it, what camera you took it with, etc. John Smith's (talk) 22:07, 20 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Problems with some photographs you uploaded

edit

I had a look on the MND website and some of the photos you uploaded and claimed as your own were on the website. I can only assume you downloaded them from there and accidentily thought they were your own.

Can you please go through the pictures you've uploaded and try to work out which are your own and which are copyrighted by the Taiwanese defence ministry. We can keep them, but we need to put the right tag on them (according to a picture already uploaded the gov says they're PD). John Smith's (talk) 12:39, 21 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you list the ROCN/MND pictures that would help. But more importantly please try to find the URLs where you got them from - if you can't they'll eventually be deleted one way or another. Look on the MND website - there are lots of pictures there. Some are on the official gallery, others on other sub-pages. John Smith's (talk) 22:09, 21 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

One more thing - please give the URL where you found the picture. You should be able to find them again on the MND website - just look hard on all the pages. John Smith's (talk) 10:30, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

No time these days. As for the userpage, I used the portal template; just follow those instructions, and then change the final design so that it's appropriate for a userpage (do you really want a DYK or portal header on your userpage?). It's quite complicated, and many changes don't take effect until you save (making preview useless), so your userspace edit count will likely be inflated. Anyway, good luck if you decide to go for it, nice hearing from you. · AndonicO Engage. 10:34, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is it in service? IDFs can't use it at the moment until they get upgraded. One upgraded IDF prototype wouldn't count. Does the article say that it is nearing completion or is ready to be deployed once the IDFs have been upgraded? John Smith's (talk) 09:45, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

An image that you uploaded or altered, File:Jagdpanther company of heroes.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the image description page. File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Jagdpanther company of heroes.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Stifle (talk) 12:44, 16 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Image of Transcend JF V30 Flash Drive.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Image of Transcend JF V30 Flash Drive.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 07:05, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey dude.
I see you have created an aarticle for JetFlash.
Back in 2008, I created an article for Transcend T.sonic.
It was deleted for some apparently silly reasons.
You can view the AfD here : Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Transcend T.sonic.
I have an archived version of the final article before it got deleted in my userspace User:Rsrikanth05/Transcend T.sonic.
I was wondering if you could maybe help me in recreating the article.

Hey dude, do you know when the T.sonic 820 [aka MP820] was released? Because AFAIK, it was released before the 3rd gen iPod Nano [the wide one], and thus T.sonics supported video playback waay before the iPods. I can use that for notability.... --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 15:01, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

An article you created, JetFlash, recently was nominated for speedy deletion by another user. Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as Praveen vaidyan, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:00, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

edit

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

March Madness 2017

edit

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

edit

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time.
