Photo licensing

Hello, the photo you mentioned was uploaded under specific permission for Wikipedia's use, as you noted. However, Wikipedia's policies do not permit us to use images (or other content) that is licensed specifically and only to Wikipedia -- one of the important goals of our project is to make/acquire content that can be reused by other projects, be they other encyclopedias, handheld devices, or similar. Any content licensed only for Wikipedia and not available for further reuse runs contrary to those goals, and as a result our policies do not permit us to keep such images. If you can get the photo released under a general open license so that anyone can use it, we can accept it (although many photographers may be reluctant to permit such). • I don't believe we can accept images with that restriction either -- it needs to be open to the world for general use. Our image policy is fairly strict, so a lot of people unfortunately find it difficult to deal with at first. Take care. --Improv 03:49, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Sure, no problem. As long as I've got your attention, you should remove the wrong date birth in Al-Jazari. 1206 was the year he published one of his major works, his father died in 1200, so the latest date for his birth is 1201. Re: Deleting my sand box

User pages use a subpage structure (see Wikipedia:Subpages). The software only recognizes subpages as pages following a / in certain namespaces. (Which is why things like talk page archives are always /Archive_1, /Archive_2, etc.) Thus, your page wasn't in your user space, but was in fact floating in the user namespace. Your page has been restored to User:Lizrael/SandBox. There's no need to move the text anywhere off-site, as long as it's in a subpage of your user name. Israeli Mafia: They exist in the news, but not on Wikipedia (en nor he)

Just tooling around en and he wikipedias following many news references to the Abutbul crime family in the news. On English wikipedia, all I can find is this pathetic article: Asi Abutbul. They aren't even mentioning Asi in the news. Google news search returns a: Francois, Charlie and Adam Abutbul at first glance. The most suspicious thing of all is that there appears to be no article about the Abutbul family at all on hebrew wikipedia. Though these guys may be second rate criminals compared to the big fish of the English speaking world, in Israel they would certainly rank. Yet [1] (category: israeli criminals) on hebrew wikipedia has no mention. It seems that wikipedia is falling behind if the israeli papers are running stories about these guys every week and they have no entry. What do you think? Sorry for responding so late, I couldn't understand where you left a message, I assumed it won't be here because I didn't tell you my user name here, and with my crazy work hours recently, I don't visit Wiki as much as I used to.

Anyway, I think they deserve an article in Hebrew. But there's a difficulty to write articles on organized crime families - most of the information about their activities is classified, or just not reported. It's hard to write anything worthwhile from several newspaper clippings. Other families, like the Abarjils, the Alperons, the Ohanas and the Ohayons don't have articles. Zeev Rosenstein and the Parinian brothers have an article, but that's only after being taken into custody (meaning, when a lot of information about them became unclassified ahead of trial). So, I don't think it's very suspicious that they don't have articles here on in He wiki. Lizrael (talk) 20:35, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Article translation challenge
