A note on the existing facilities and building of new museum is probably in order. Eventually I'd like to get to it. Next time I am at the museum (August maybe) I'll do a bit more research. It is taken from the 2nd Infantry Division's logo. 5th Marines served as part of the 4th Marine Brigade under the 2nd Infantry Division in World War I as part of the American Expeditionary Force. Moving mess

As Dcfowler1 (talk · contribs) ignored the various warnings regarding consensus-less page moves, I blocked him/her for 12 hours. VMFA-134

I understand your reason for pulling LtCol Nelson from the story. (so far as I know, this man who I never knew, was just another officer doing his job) I don't understand pulling the A-4 ref. As a reader, I would like to know what planes were flown and when. In my memory they flew the A-4E and A-4M, and were just getting Hornets, as I retired, but I expect they flew other models as well. I was an east coast Marine, so my contact with 134 was limited. You are a better writer, and wikipedian than I am, so I will defer to your judgement. VA-12

Making the assumption that you have administrator priviledges, I was hoping to solicit your assistance to sort out some naming discrepancies. There are several US Navy squadrons (see Category:United States Navy squadrons) which are mis-named, and done so in an incinsistent manner, because they conflict with the abbreviated name of a road in Virginia. VA-12, an article which you originally created, is one such example. In my opinion there should be a "VA-12 (disambiguation)" page (which I would be happy to create) to cover these conflicts, but the Wikipedia title "VA-12" and the others in the Navy squadrons category should go to the Navy squadron because these are their actual names that everyone knows them by, not abbreviations. If you will change them I will be happy to do the leg work of sorting out the redundant Wikilinks, double-redirects, creation of the disambiguation pages, and referencing the disambiguation pages at the top of all affected articles. United States Marine Corps Aviation

While the article is good I still think there is some information that needs to be added. Just of the top of my head their needs to be an inclusion of the six functions of Marine aviation, some info on the MACCS and maybe a paragraph about the future of Marine aviation to include future aircraft, tactical air integration plan etc...just my thoughts though. OK, I will wait. I think I will take a crack at the "Future" section. I'll have to take a look at the aviation plan again... but reading those kinds of reports drive me slightly nuts!

Order of Battle diagrams

Hey, I noticed that you found discrepancies with Noclador's USMC organizational diagrams. I've been conversing with him for a little while about making some fixes, your input would be appreciated. You always seem to find out about unit activations, deactivations, and reassignments before I do, and he is willing to update these graphics frquently (and coordination will help me fix the MSC navboxes in a timely manner). Greater Sandy Run / Camp Davis

I'm a bit confused by Camp Davis... I'd thought when I'd edited it a few minutes ago that it was surely a satellite facility of MCAS New River because it had functional runways, and was formerly an Army and Navy aviation facility. But the few references I've found since then ([1], [2], [3], & [4]) mention that Lejeune acquired it in 1992 and is renovating certain portions of it... Unless some of that info is wrong, the only explanation I can think of is that it used to be an aviation facility when the Corps acquired it in the 50s, then New River turned it over to Lejeune in 92, no longer to be used for aviation. Hiya! I believe the SSI image should say "OLD IRONSIDES", which is the nickname of the First Armored Division. "READY FIRST" is the nickname of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, which is a unit of the division.

MWSS 372

I just wanted to drop in and say thanks for working so hard on all these unit pages. You're doing an amazng job.

The only thing I want to comment on is MWSS 372's page. I'm super new to this Wikipedia thing, so I'm not sure exactly how to edit it myself.

The unit has a new CO, LtCol Matthew Puglisi, as of June I believe. The changeover happened just before a friend of our separated from the military, and he left in late June.

Aand the unit patch isn't exactly correct. MWSS 372 are the diamondbacks, their patch is red with a rattlesnake, the engineer insignia, and the motor-t insignia on it. It's all at the unit website, http://www.3maw.usmc.mil/mwsg37/mwss372/default.asp

And I'm not even sure that's still the seal they use. My husband is in 372, they all just got back from a deployment in February. He brought back a coin and a yearbook-kinda thing that both have a new patch with only a snake and a helicopter on it. I can try and get a picture of it up.

Hello. While the Marines of Hoover's Hunters served their country with distinction, I agree in general, notable information about individual companies should be in the battalion articles. The article was not an obvious speedy as you noted. I believe that WP:PROD was that most reasonable approach to take. If there are points for discussion, I hope you will take the opportunity to join in. Oakland Naval Base

I noticed that you reverted the name of this base to the air station. However, the author of the book I cited says that the marine convoy left from the naval base, as would be the logical place for the ships to depart from, and many other sources confirm the base was in operation at least until 1960. The intent of my changing the name is to use the actual name of the base at the time; not to deny its existence. It is actually the Oakland International Airport today. The absolute expert in all things military post related in World War II is M.L. Shettle. He has written a myriad of books and luckily his information on California posts is on-line.... check out NAS Oakland. In 1942 the facility in question was officially named Naval Reserve Air Base Oakland. Just because it was an Air Base does not mean that ships could not dock there and transport troops from there. The facility is right on the water and is ideally suited for it. I would guess the author of the book just simplified the title to Oakland Naval Base. I have read hundreds of military books and I constantly see incorrect titles like this. Authors do not do in depth research and just surmise some things. If anything, if it was a Naval Base it would actually be Naval Base Oakland since that is how the U.S. Navy names it's bases. A good example of a similiar facility today would be Naval Air Station North Island. While it is primarily an Air Station many ships dock there for a myriad of purposes. The reason I also remove the city of San Francisco is that the Air Base was not in San Francisco but rather Oakland. Two different cities but it seems the author mentioned San Francisco for readers who may not be familiar with other parts of the Bay Area. No need to check because I have encountered similar issues elsewhere, but was just wondering. I did in fact wonder why the base was in Oakland but the departure was from SF and decided it may have had to do something with the military zoning. Sorry if you are doing too much cleanup, but I'm a bit tired but wanted to get that bit of editing in as I found it interesting. Aviation unit naming conventions

I was thinking about expanding United States Marine Corps aviation to include a section on the naming conventions for an aviation unit, and then realized it might be better as an article concerning all branches. I know there is already an article about airfract designations, but I was wondering what you thought about unit designations? Would such an article be notable? I can see why there would need to be an explaination as to how VMFA=Marine Fighter Attack Squadron. Sometimes you get so wrapped up in the subject that it is easy to forget that these acronyms are not as easy to decipher for most. I believe there is merit to creating a Marine Corps article. My thoughts would be to start off trying to create an article about Marine Corps designations over the years. If at the end it is determined there is just not enough substance then it would be appropriate to expand it to cover all services. As for references....I have hundreds to draw from. A few problems right now is that many are in storage and I am about to take 3 weeks of vacation where I will only be monitoring for vandalism. If you want to get it rolling then by all means I will add info where I can and add more substantial info when I get back and unpack my library.--Looper5920 (talk) 04:32, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
