Hello Martin, thank you. I ask for your guidance on how to proceed. I think I have a notable article but am a connected contributor. The subject of the article, a UK citizen, died nearly 20 years ago, I knew her and of her work. She is not represented in Wikipedia but her life was notable and featured in UK national media. I inherited her work and notes and collection of media coverage articles. No one else alive has this information to produce this article.

I have edited some sample paragraphs in my sandbox to familiarise with the system, and feel confident to proceed with producing a neutral and referenced article, but obviously being connected this may be a COI issue.

Albertpda

Hi Martin, I'm confused by the changes to Albertpda's global lock. This is not a complaint; I just want to understand how this works. Ironically, I recently had a discussion with a user about the differences, as I understood them, between global locks and global blocks.

Let's start with the basics. I always thought that IPs were globally blocked and registered users were globally locked. Other than the terminology, I never understood what was different about the effects of the two actions. I also thought that when a registered user is globally locked, they cannot log in on any project (not sure if that includes Meta). I'm not sure whether IPs can edit their own Talk pages or not.

I thought - and still think - that a globally locked user can be locally unblocked. In Albertpda's case, Yamla didn't unblock him, he changed the block settings so as to permit TPA, this way back in March of 2024. Today, you changed the global lock to a global block. Your rationale was very clearly explained, but it does nothing for my confusion about global blocks and global locks.
