DYK for Jemma Mitchell case

edit

On 7 November 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Jemma Mitchell case, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that the sentencing phase of the Jemma Mitchell case was the second to be filmed in England and Wales since a change in the law permitted television cameras into court? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Jemma Mitchell case. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Jemma Mitchell case), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

The article Dawn of the Dead (2004 film) you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:Dawn of the Dead (2004 film) for comments about the article, and Talk:Dawn of the Dead (2004 film)/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! Second GA nom for Shin Ultraman

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Danny Masterson. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. It should go without saying that you don't get to unilaterally decide a matter that you know is being discussed at an article's Talk page. You are welcome to join the discussion. DonIago (talk) 04:18, 10 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Doniago: honestly, you're just splitting hairs over this edit. Your rationale only stems from the fact that Danny Boy is going to appeal his conviction and therefore should not be immediately treated as a felon because he could be innocent. May I remind you that it is not Wikipedia's job to sympathize with living persons reported in their articles? Our task is to objectively discuss living persons based upon reliable sources about them. Since Danny Boy has been convicted of decades-old sex crimes, we shall treat him as a sex offender at the beginning of the article; the fact he's going to appeal is irrelevant. If Danny Boy does prevail in his appeal, then we can treat him as a former actor. Until then, he remains a convicted sex offender. Period. Replaceable non-free use File:John Gatins, Leprechaun 3.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:John Gatins, Leprechaun 3.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Re: RPGamer

edit

While I'm not entirely keen on Exdeath getting the DIY nom because I'm still working on it and that fellow kinda just did their own thing randomly, the comment about RPGamer felt weird. It's a reliable source according to WP:VG/S, and the person cited is staff. Kung Fu Man (talk) 06:00, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Kung Fu Man: I see. Perhaps you should have informed the DYK moderators about it in the nom page before an editor could make a review; given the massive backlog DYK is currently in, the last thing it needs is another aimless nomination. But I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction, and I'm sorry the nominator didn't bother crediting you as the "mainspace mover" on the DYK at the very least. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 06:13, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I assumed incorrectly that the "Author" was for the DYK and not the article, sorry for that. Given that the field is in between the fields for the DYK and not the article, I imagine others have made that mistake though. detriaskies 16:40, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also while I am here, calling it a aimless nomination doesn't feel great! I am just a new editor trying to do things in good faith, and figured it was a good and well written article to try a new thing with. detriaskies 16:49, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
DetriaSkies, while I can appreciate you calling me out on not having assumed good faith as you say, that doesn't change the fact that you didn't familiarize yourself with the DYK guidelines properly before impulsively nominating the Exdeath article, which you even insisted that it be nominated despite the fact it was still a work in progress. But to answer your question in your talk, WP:DYKCOMPLETE requires that nominations be reasonably complete and not some sort of work in progress, and that means no maintenance templates on expansion or anything that would prevent the article from getting featured in the Main page for that matter. Please read Wikipedia:Did you know/Guidelines properly this time. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 17:40, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Alright, thank you for clearing that up! detriaskies 17:42, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Dia (film) reception

edit

Hi, I disagree with your criticism of the reception section as a quote farm. Using one short sentence quote from each review is standard practice for good articles such as the James Bond films for example and a copyvio rating of 14% is well within guidelines. The essay on the reception section you linked to itself uses just as many quotes in its recommended example. Using a thematic structure is also a stylistic preference for some editors but is not an MOS requirement. Personally I am against it as it requires substantial repetion of references and confusion to the reader over who said what, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 20:12, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Atlantic306: Only difference is that the quotes in the essay are truncated and compliment the flow of the prose, unlike those in the Dia article, which uses quote in a contrived manner. The essay may be personal preferences, but as the GA reviewer, it's my prerogative to bring GA nominations to a high standard. Granted, that's not even my major gripe with the article: the production section, as you may have already noticed, is underdeveloped and not exactly in accord with MOS:FILM. That is what holding it back the most from being GA. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 04:49, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello thank you for self reverting regarding the review in Talk:Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie/GA1. Even if the reviewer had an new account and a few edits, we shouldn't discourage new editors. It is true that GAN is one of the trickier areas of Wikipedia but if they found the page, they already passed some hurdles on our confusing interface.
