Non admins can close debates as keep

Hi, I notice your comment at the David Pearce deletion review that "non admins can close debates as keep". I'm surprised at this option - does that mean that any pro-keep editor can thwart the review process and simply close the debate in favour of his/her position? Seems rather generous. Making Contact

Was just reading T3Smiles userpage (shes been accused of everything except colour I'm afraid) when I noticed you made queries regarding CDB. Did you watch the Music Show posted on YouTube (the one with the bloopers?) Currently Andy is on "The Singing Bee" and Gary is on "Australian Idol" at the moment, the group are recording their new album at the moment as a "comeback" piece. CDB made a few tracks with Rockmelons. In the 90's I was working out of 001 Studios with Siew Ooi (Big Brother) when CDB came in and asked for a remix of "Hook Me Up", and we're all still mates. Fair Use Rationales

Am still having problems with BetacommandBot - have provided updated fair use rationales, based on your format - have provided sources for the image (i.e Image:Calenture.jpg & Image:Electric Soup.jpg) however it seems that still doesn't satisfy this dammed bot and it keeps on saying that it is a disputed fair use rationale - any suggestions? I can understand your explanation in respect to Calenture (album) but what I can't undertand is why the Bot picked on Electric Soup which clearly has the article to which the image relates to in the title of the Fair Use Rationale...Dan arndt 23:55, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Food for thought

On Remembrance Day (or Armistice Day - Veterans Day in the US) we remember those soldiers who sacrificed their lives so their countries could live in freedom. We use poppies to remember the blood shed by soldiers in Flanders Fields, a major European battleground. The poem In Flanders Fields was written during World War I but Remembrance Day commemorates all lives lost to war, especially after the first of the World Wars. The observance is not to glorify war but to remember those who suffered. Very few people remained untouched by the effects of World War I.

Memorial services held today often include the Ode of Remembrance. The ode finishes with these words:
We will remember them.

2007 Election discussion page use as Forum.

It was "urgent" and "ongoing". In about an hour it went from 3 replies to seven or eight... The conversation was in breach of the policies I listed. I don't care if I was taking on one person or an entire project, I don't care if the people involved were normal users, ArbCom members or the founder or wikipedia himself. I didn't disrupt the encyclopaedia, to make a point or otherwise. I have learnt from this, I have learnt that hours after the whole thing settled down, you reported me to punished not to solve an ongoing problem. electorates questions

According to article Shire of Northampton, the Houtman Abrolhos is part of that shire, and the shire falls within the Electoral district of Greenough. But according to Electoral district of Geraldton, the Houtman Abrolhos falls within that district. What gives, man?! And how do I figure out what federal division it is in? I've found a technical description and some maps on the WAEC website that confirms the Houtman Abrolhos to be part of the Electoral district of Geraldton. But I still need to figure out what federal division it is in. I tried the AEC electorate search, but it yielded nothing for "Houtman Abrolhos", and its postcode gave results in both Kalgoorlie and O'Connor. Any ideas? Hesperian 05:13, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, I don't know. Just because "management and land use control of the Abrolhos Islands does not lie with local government", does not mean it is not defined as within the boundaries of a local government. (although I grant that the LGA becomes rather less relevant in light of that fact) This map colours the Shire of Northampton blue, and includes the Abrolhos. Hesperian 11:39, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

When I did them all I got them off one of the LGA websites that lists all localities within each LGA, omitting all the trivial rural localities that would never have articles. I got sidetracked by the more interesting discovery that Australia claims sovereignty over the Houtman Abrolhos by virtue of a breach of Article 7 of the UNCLOS (search for "Houtman Abrolhos" in http://books.google.com/books?id=Uv8WwsnlLhsC). Perhaps I should figure out whether it is part of Australia before I worry if it is part of Northampton ;-) Hesperian 13:02, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

I was under the impression that Fisheries have sole control of everything on the islands, like who comes and goes, who can visit and for how long, and that no permanent residency is allowed any more. If that's true then it's likely that no one could actually register with the AEC as the H.Abrollos Islands can not be their permanent address, however which particular AEC office takes a ballot box over there on election day might be interesting. A good bunch of questions. I think many of them are answered by the 'conflictless dispute' I had with him over his FLC nomination, that I cited in my nom. He debated hard a point of niggly policy over Featured material and once he understood the rationale completely, he was happy to relent. I like that - good admins don't roll over and ask for their tummies to be tickled till they've had a strong argument presented. Good admins will also give in gracefully. Just a request for you to restore the article on Ogalo fast food stores. This Chicken restaurant chain has grown to 16 stores in Sydney and Gosford constantly expanding, to rival Oporto (restaurant) and Nando in Australia. The question is not big enough, but reliable source coverage and compliance with other Wikipedia policies. Also 16 stores is hardly rivalling Nando's - I live just round the corner from one in Perth, and I noticed in Sydney that Oporto is absolutely everywhere. I've done some tidying up and expansion on my suburb. User Penser

Please look into a violation of 3R by Penser who has reverted Alexander Graham Bell three times in a 24-hour period to his version. The issue of nationality was a "hot" topic on the talk page and a resolution in describing the scientist's nationality was decided upon. The lead paragraph is carefully written to indicate a main birthright as "Scottish" although an American citizenship was obtained. The amount of time spent in Canada is also discussed wherein all three nations have claimed Bell as their native son. FWIW, the user in question has also made some intemperate "attack" statements although I had earlier attempted to explain the issues on his talk page. Bzuk (talk) 13:11, 16 December 2007 (UTC).

(Re:) Suburbs of Brisbane

So, you're saying that the articles of soon-to-be-merged Queensland councils (such as Redcliffe City, Queensland) would remain and become historical (such as you've created with City of Altona), and all good, current content from articles of soon-to-be-merged councils be 'merged' into the article of the council that is to become (such as Redcliffe City, Pine Rivers Shire Council and Caboolture Shire Council into Moreton Bay Regional Council) with a holistic view? That is what I had in mind with MBRC, and was going to make a start on doing that one day soon (when I couldn't find anything else to capture my editing attention instead, before March 2008).  SEO⁷⁵ 13:04, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

It was definitely a dramatic debate that landed on WP:100, but ultimately was deemed a successful declaration of consensus, and I am now an admin. :) I definitely paid close attention to everything that was said in the debate, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm going to take it slow for now -- I'm working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school, carefully double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are a few more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status. Kirwan High

Hi i just had a look at what you have done to the page.....and i have to ask (and you will all go here we go again) Why is it that you remove the fact that the high school is in Thuringowa city, and add that it is 12 kilometres from Townsville, That incorrect as if you come from Ross River Road into Thuringowa the school is only about 3km from Townsville...anyway...doesn't is seem like the best thing to do is leave that it is in the city of Thuringowa, seeing how 1: Thuringowa is the city that the school is in, 2: Thuringowa is still a city and will be until March 08, 3:IT'S A FACT. • Thank you for that ...yes Thuringowa has 3 High Schools but Kirwan is the biggest but i won't be adding that just yet as some user seems to have the poops with me and i don't want any more i my hard work deleted so i may add that later, and seeing how the school is in Thuringowa city that would be a good idea to add it the way you said, i just hope that won't get changed.

Hi OIC, your doing an excellent job on the old LGA's, there an essential part of the "Melbourne story". Regarding town halls, the information that I have at hand in pretty scant, the most accessible resources are online at Heritage Victoria and the National Trust

Thuringowa High School

Hi mate just looked at what you have done to the Thuringowa high school page and must say i think you went a little overboard, when i started adding info to this page i looked at other high school pages to see how and what i should add, and this is what i did, only to find that you have gone in and removed almost all of the info about what the school has to offer etc, would you mind if i went back and added what i feel is needed to bring the back up to a page that will tell poeple more about this school, and if you object to what i have added, then lets have a talk about it, as the way it is now is really sad.Thuringowacityrep (talk) 01:40, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Exploding Whales

Wow! Exploding whales is a great article. I wanna work on articles like that. How do you find articles like the two you mention to work on? (including the kitty one) Those sound like more fun than working on angry ex-religious group members and delighted pro-group members (though the challenge of retaining neutrality in the face of both keeps me hooked).
