WikiCup 2024 April newsletter

We are approaching the end of the 2024 WikiCup's second round, with a little over two weeks remaining. Currently, contestants must score at least 105 points to progress to the third round.

Our current top scorers are as follows:

Competitors may submit work for the second round until the end of 28 April, and the third round starts 1 May. Remember that only competitors with the top 32 scores will make it through to the third round. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs. As a reminder, competitors are strictly prohibited from gaming Wikipedia policies or processes to receive more points.

If you would like to learn more about rules and scoring for the 2024 WikiCup, please read Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Further questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. I Can See Your Voice franchise

Pinging @BilledMammal, Gonnym, Queen of Hearts: Good day. Thanks for the contribution in relating to mass renamings for the I Can See Your Voice franchise. In case that you made the right decision on categories, please deliberate these (other proposed renamings) before you perform the operation. Remember, I Can See Your Voice is a unique program with format of "mystery music game show" that originated in South Korea in 2015, which is technically classified as a "game show" genre. Saisønisse (talk) 07:36, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

@Saisønisse sorry, I missed that in the nom. But it looks like the RM was closed as move about an hour after you posted this, is there anything else to be done? Queen of ♡ | speak 20:44, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Re: Discord

Queen, I really want to apologize for my account being compromised on Discord. Somehow, it kept spamming everybody and everything with the same unwanted invite to an inappropriate server. I do take sole responsibility for it whether it was comp'd or not. Darrion "Beans" Brown 🙂 (my talk page / my sandbox) 21:20, 19 April 2024 (UTC)

Namelist pages

Hi Queen of Hearts :)

I'm currently thinking about namelist pages, and about whether they're thought of more as disambiguation pages or as stand-alone lists - in particular, for the purposes of rcat tagging (e.g. whether a redirect from Fred (surname) to Fred (name) would be an {{R from unnecessary disambiguation}} or an {{R from incomplete disambiguation}}; whether a redirect from Ffransis (disambiguation) to Ffransis would be an {{R from unnecessary disambiguation}} or an {{R to disambiguation page}}; etc). Looking through my contribs to see how I'd previously used rcats for these sorts of situations myself, I noticed that in February, you added {{R to disambiguation page}} to a redirect I'd created via JWB (Vilhelmsen (disambiguation)); so I was curious to know what your thoughts/understandings were on the subject.

All the best (and thank you for the kitten you gave me last month ❤️), ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 10:34, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Hello @A smart kitten, nice to see you around. I did that JWB job off of a Quarry query which checks for untagged redirects from "Foo (disambiguation)" to "Foo". I didn't realize the target was a surname list. I figured {{R to disambiguation page}} would say something about pages that serve a disambiguation-like purpose, but nope. IMO, redirects like this should be tagged to disambiguation, but I'd ask at Template talk:R to disambiguation page. Queen of ♡ | speak 19:16, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

CFD closure

Hello, I'm on my phone right now so I can't cut and paste links but I was looking at a CFD discussion you closed yesterday about an Anti-mainlander Hong Kong" category. You closed it as Merge but several target categories were mentioned and it wasn't clear what you wanted this category to be Merged to. Liz Read! Talk! 00:48, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

CfD closure

Happy birthday indeed! Could you please reconsider your closure of Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2024_April_16#Category:Anti-Zionist_Christians and Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2024_April_16#Category:Christian_anti-Zionism? I think the opposing argument has sufficiently been refuted. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:23, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

WikiCup 2024 May newsletter

The second round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 28 April. This round was particularly competitive: each of the 32 contestants who advanced to Round 3 scored at least 141 points. This is the highest number of points required to advance to Round 3 since 2014.

The following scorers in Round 2 all scored more than 500 points:

The full scores for Round 2 can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 18 featured articles, 22 featured lists, and 186 good articles, 76 in the news credits and at least 200 did you know credits. They have conducted 165 featured article reviews, as well as 399 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 21 articles to featured topics and good topics.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed during Round 3, which starts on 1 May at 00:00 (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

Tell me your secrets

What kind of dark magic do you use to rotate the color on your signature? Levivich (talk) 20:13, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Top secret, @Levivich. But if you promise not to tell the signature police, it substitutes a user subpage which has a {{random item}} with eight colors (red, black, blue, yellow, purple, brown, and pink). Cheers, Queen of ♡ | speak 20:36, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

"Romani people in Pristina" listed at Redirects for discussion

The redirect Romani people in Pristina has been listed at redirects for discussion to determine whether its use and function meets the redirect guidelines. Anyone, including you, is welcome to comment on this redirect at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2024 May 2 § Romani people in Pristina until a consensus is reached. ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 14:39, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Update

I was trying to update a Wikimedia commons file https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vital_Articles_World_Map_Article_Quality.svg however it won’t let me. Reason for update was because East Timor is a GA, not a C class article as the map suggests. Would it be possible if you could help in this process? Because by the time you updated the file you also did not update East Timor. Is there a way I can update the file? 48JCL talk 01:22, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello 48JCL; I have updated the map with Inkscape. Queen of Hearts (talk) 02:07, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
