Hi. Great work on the article, but none of the linked CSB pages seem to be availible. I think they were working before, but now the pages display as cannot be found/displayed on my computer. Is it just me, or have those links all moved or something? Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 21:50, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Baffling indeed. The Web server is listening but apparently is unable to serve any content, not even its root URL. I found another site CBS uses for general information. That site has a link to this page that is really just a copy of the other list - but the list stopped at #223. The page is also odd in that it uses a non-standard port :99, apparently a temporary setup. On the other hand, I found individual aftershock references on this site up till 6/23 so I'll attempt to provide them instead of referencing a collective reference for every aftershock. RE: Table merging...thing
editThanks for contacting me, but I'm not quite good with table-syntaxing, and whatever you did wrong...I doubt I can fix it. I think there is a help desk for tables...maybe contacting them? --haha169 (talk) 15:44, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

I award you this barnstar for your tireless contributions to the 2008 Sichuan earthquake and aftershock articles. Keep up the great work! ~AH1(TCU) 16:35, 16 July 2008 (UTC) |
Hi. The article is a bit too long! It took me almost an hour to make just one edit (because my computer's slow), and it froze several times while I was acessing the earthquake databases, and I can't find the recent list for SCEA-b. Also, the list itself is about 188 kb. I suggest splitting it into different articles by month, what do you think? However, if that were done, it would have to be decided if UTC or CST time would be used. By the time the aftershocks end, there could be well over 1,000 mag 4+ aftershocks in total after combining the four lists, and what if (hopefully not) the prediction of a mag. >7 aftershock is correct? We'd have aftershocks of that aftershock, and there could be problems. How about moving the article to "2008 Sichuan earthquake aftershocks", then moving just the list to the "list" article, and moving each month's aftershocks from all four sources into separate articles by month, eg. List of 2008 Sichuan earthquake aftershocks in August, etc? Right now, this is only a suggestion, so please discuss on it if nessecary, because the article is getting rather long, and sometimes I have to wait 5-10 minutes before resuming if I accidentally freeze my computer. Also, sorry about the sloppy conversion between CST and UTC, I thought it was +10 for some reason when I know it's +8, OOPS! Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 16:02, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- I have been pondering about a scheme to split since you suggested it. List by month is a wonderful idea. As I have not been able to make mixed date format to sort (it works so nicely in the help file:-), I think using UTC is the best approach.
Hi. Does the mag. ~6 earthquake responsible for killing at least 22 people count as an aftershock of the May Sichuan earthquake, or is it too far away from the original quake or in a different fault to count as one? Should an article be created seeing it was more deadly than recent quakes which killed fewer people but have articles like the 2008 El Calvario earthquake? Does CEA/SCEA have info on this? Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 23:13, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry was absorbed in day job. I watched the Panzhihua earthquake unfold. It wasn't classified as an aftershock of the Wenchuan earthquake; and the location is far from the Longmenshan fault generally believed to be the source of the Wenchuan earthquake. CEA has quite a few articles, but English references are not as many. If we are to start a new article, it's going to rely heavily on Chinese sources. Besides, can you create a structure or give me pointers about how to start such an article? Sillyvalley (talk) 07:33, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- Nevermind, there's already an article on this: 2008 Panzhihua earthquake. ~AH1(TCU) 15:57, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
- Right - just completed two big rounds of updates. Hopefully it is now a well referenced and researched article.Sillyvalley (talk) 01:34, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. OK, thanks, but what do you mean exactly that needs fixing on 2008 Sichuan earthquake? I did some minor fixing on the Panzhihua earthquake article, and just a reminder that the earthquake struck, not "stroke". The article on the Panzhihua earthquake seems to be fairly updated by now. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 01:06, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for correcting the wording. In 2008 Sichuan earthquake, piles after piles of information pile up, it becomes less easy to follow the threads. In earthquake details, for example, tectonics, seismic dynamics, geologists' descriptions, and eyewitness descriptions are mixed together in no particular order. (Even within the most isolated tectonics section, I couldn't see a "storyline" from or some relationship among the quotations.) The summary also includes too many details to be an effective guide for a reader to quickly grasp the main points of the article. With 2008 Panzhihua earthquake, I tried to reduce the summary to mere highlights with a strong internal rhythm (storyline, if you will) and point to details with internal hyperlinks. Still, this technique will not be effective if the referenced sections do not have a clear storyline themselves. IMO, these are improvements that can be made to raise the article to be "featured" (again). Sillyvalley (talk) 04:36, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Secret to TOCs
edit- Hi, yes there are tricks. To put a TOC on any page you can use the wikicode __TOC__. That's "_""_"TOC"_""_". The TOC will appear where ever you put that line. If you put it lower than normal, you may want to include {{skiptotoc)) on the top of the page. Hope this helps! I'm advanced in wikicode, so if you need help let me know! :-) Fr33kmantalk APW 19:58, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
script
editThanks for this valuable feedback; thought we had it fixed. I'll let Lightmouse know. Tony (talk) 02:53, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
- Lightmouse says he can find no date-sorting facility in the List of 2008 Sichuan earthquake aftershocks article. Can you point it out? Tony (talk) 13:34, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
- Here is the table head used
{|class="wikitable sortable" ! class="unsortable" | # ! class="unsortable" | [[China Standard Time|CST]] date ! class="unsortable" | time ! [[UTC]] date ! time ! Place ! Lat. ! Long. ! class="unsortable" | Fatalities ! Mag. |-}
- so UTC date and time are among sortable columns. In Wiki help samples, I see many ways dates can be sorted. But in my own sandbox, I could only get one format sortable. Sillyvalley (talk) 08:13, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
