Hi Patar, thank you for the flag. I very much appreciate your proactive outreach and interest in helping folks adhere to the community's policy and transparency guidelines. My involvement in Wikipedia as referenced in the Toronto Star article can be traced back to some portion of edits made in 2009 on the Korean Wikipedia on South Korean wetlands designated to be "of International Importance" under the Ramsar Convention. This is the most specific I can get given that the activity occurred a decade ago and involved a group of collaborators. As you will notice, at least some of the pages created/edited at that point in time have undergone changes since. Otherwise, I have no history of user accounts or consistently used IP addresses that I have (a) maintained in the past, (b) currently use, or (c) have used at some point that I have now retired. This absence of notable history is the reason I have made no upfront disclosure of any previous accounts on my user page. Sorry, for the late reply, I've been largely off-Wikipedia the last two weeks. If I'm understanding your reply correctly, you've never edited English Wikipedia prior to becoming s a WIR? In any case, even if you only edited the Korean Wikipedia, it would be better for you to disclose any accounts you used there, especially since (if?) you are being paid by the University of Toronto as a WIR. I don't understand why you cannot get more specific, since the edits are all preserved in the page history, so unless they have been suppressed, you should be able to point to specific edits. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 23:00, 21 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
All good! Thank you for coming back to this. To clarify, my past contributions to the English Wikipedia have been few (<10), minor and dispersed across time, without unification under a logged-in account. Hence the acknowledgement that I begin with no "notable" history of editing. These minor edits were performed when, in the process of academic or personal research, I encountered syntax or phrasing that could be tweaked to more effectively communicate the main ideas without reliance on unnecessary jargon. (I found myself keen on making "academicised" ideas and resources more accessible--an ethic that certainly informs this position). I could not have foreseen my WIR tenure ahead of time; therefore, it did not occur to me to faithfully keep a record of individual edits for future transparency. As I am sure you are aware, Wikipedia is a resilient, exciting, and ever-growing ecosystem that engages an active open-source-minded following beyond its community of more regular editors (past or present). It seems reasonable to say that this contingent community is home to plenty who are not interested in running afoul of the sockpuppetry policy, remain familiar with Wikipedia's community ethics (and their evolution!), have relevant background in issues of knowledge accessibility that may or may not involve encyclopedia editing, and are well-placed to draw on this familiarity to help make institutional resources more publicly useful. Finally, the Korean edits in question were my entry point to Wikipedia (as noted in the Star article) and I simply do not remember precise account details from a decade ago. Editing Wikipedia was, for my group and I, a thoughtful exercise in knowledge accessibility which in practice looked like a hilarious collective struggle with HTML + Wikitext. A group of high school students, we had no prior exposure to Wikipedia editing or potential concerns around sustained accountability. We were working from some combination of IDs/IP addresses contributing edits that I am now limited in my capacity to trace beyond the search results linked above. Were I better placed to remember, I would have no qualms specifying in greater detail. I hope this adds context to your altogether reasonable concerns. Should my edits as WIR in the coming months suggest a personal conflict of interest as would indicate a breach of WP:LEGITSOCK, I am more than happy to discuss in reference to specific edits. Hi Marchjuly. There are no non-free alternatives to this logo (Wikipedia:Logos#Uploading_non-free_logos). I have provided a more detailed rationale for image use on the institution's GLAM-Wiki project page per Canadian Fair Dealing (via Canadian Copyright Act Section 29) as well as Wikipedia's non-free rationale guidelines. The problem is not the rationale or the file size. The problem is that non-free content can only be used in articles; it cannot be used on userpages, etc. per Wp:NFCC#9. Canadian copyright law is not really relevant here; the only thing that matters is whether relevant Wikipedia policy is met and in this case it clearly is not. Even if no free equivalent can be found or created (WP:FREER), that is only one of the ten non-free criterion which needs to be satisfied; non-free use can never be justified for use on a user page per WP:UP#Non-free files and WP:NFCC#9. In other words, a single valid non-free use rationale cannot be written for this type of non-free use, let alone three rationales for three separate uses outside of the article namespace.
You can try and see if you can establish a consensus for an exemption per WP:NFEXMP, but this is pretty only ever given for file maintenance pages. You can ask of rother opinions on this at WP:MCQ or WT:NFCC if you want, but I'm almost certain that any response you get will be the same. As for a fre equivalent, the COA is really the only copyrightable element in that image; so, it might be possible to use a wordmark type logo instead. Another possible option would be to use a photograph of the library; Canada does appear to allow freedom of panorama for buildings; so, this might possible. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:35, 29 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Hi Utl Jung. All non-free files are required to have two things: a non-free use rationale and a file copyright license. This file had the former, but not the latter. I went ahead and added a copyright license that I think applies, but please check any other files you uploaded to make sure they also have copyright licenses. Hi there, Utl jung. Thanks for participating in this. I read about it in this news item. Just thought I would let you know that I moved Congress of Black Women of Canada into mainspace. It fits in nicely with Women in Red's current focus on black women. I couldn't find anything on The Provincial Freeman but I see there's already an article in French. Archival records template

Hi Utl jung,

Finally I've found a good example that shows where I feel your wonderful template can use some modification. The template is great when there is a single archival collection at a single institution. It's pretty messy if there are multiple archival collections at multiple institutions. Take a look at George_Antheil#External_links. None of these instances are using wikidata but are hardcoded (although I just added all the wikidata info). There must be a better way to format this so it looks nicer and is easier to navigate.
