German WikiProject Eurovision

Hi, I read your comment and checked your user page, noticing you spoke English to an advanced level. I will articulate my position clearly with regards to de:Wikipedia:WikiProjekt Eurovision Song Contest. You are right to mention that there is a portal, but we must keep in mind that de:Wikipedia:Portale states that the coordination and collaboration of a topic is easier and more sensible with a WikiProject. Also, there most certainly are needs to work collaboratively on ESC articles. This is shown by poor formatting, inconsistent formatting, inappropriate colour schemes and countless other issues. The establishment of a WikiProject is necessary to bring this topic to the same high level that we have here at English Wikipedia, including one featured article, two featured lists, one A-class article, twenty-nine good articles and countless more at a B-class level. At the end of the day, I'm allowed to revive the project without permission from other editors and it is recommended that it is used instead of the Portal for collaboration. Unless someone can give me a reason why policy and guidelines prevent me from doing so, I consider this a necessary step in developing a better encyclopedia, and therefore will be bold. Hi. You should keep in mind that German Wikipedia is not English Wikipedia. If for a relatively small topic as the ESC there exists an active Portal, there is simply no need for a Project (the responsible project for the ESC is ultimately de:Wikipedia:Redaktion Musik). Working collaboratively on ESC articles could be a nice thing, yes, but it simply does not happen in German Wikipedia, because all the users and IPs concerned prefer working on their own, that is what experience has shown me. What do you plan to do with a project whose only active member you are yourself? If you want to collaborate, ask at the Portal or (if there are any concrete questions) at Redaktion Musik. I am well aware of the differences between German and English Wikipedia. This is the reason that I have quoted German policy. Furthermore, German Wikipedia makes it quite clear that if you are passionate, you may revive a WikiProject. The size of the project also is no barrier. German is the most spoken language in Europe, so it is unlikely that people aren't interested.

de:Wikipedia:Redaktion Musik has been unsuccessful in fixing Eurovision articles in the past, so there is no reason why that should be any barrier to the revival of a more appropriate WikiProject. It is stated here, "Neben den Redaktionen dienen sie als zentraler Platz für die inhaltliche Arbeit, themenspezifische Kommunikation, Quellensammlung und Zusammenfassung von Hilfestellungen und bieten damit dem Artikelschreiber wichtige Arbeitsgrundlagen". Eurovision is "themenspezifisch", and cannot be hedged into an editorial department.

Collaboration isn't a nice concept. It is necessary for the improvement of Wikipedia as an encyclopedia. As with all projects, I intend to invite others to the project. It will not be just me. That is partly how WikiProjects here thrive. But even if you were right and nobody wanted to join, I could do no harm. I am here to give the old WikiProject a paint-job and fix up its flaws so it can be usable again. There is, in effect, no reason to prevent the WikiProject from being improved. I have the benefit of the doubt.

People who love Eurovision, of which there are many, should be able to collaborate in an environment tailored to them. That is why I am here, to provide people with that chance. German Wikipedia policy supports it. It gives me the freedom to revive a WikiProject if I want to. It does not, however, give other people the freedom to shut it down before I have a chance to renovate or make changes. That is German Wikipedia, not English Wikipedia.

You’re wrong in that I were opposing the revival; it just was me who originally shut the project down, for good reasons, but I don’t really care about it. So you have to convince others, not me. I still don’t get what you are trying to achieve, as I cannot see which great fixes to the ESC articles one could make (just one thing: making them like the English ones will very likely not find a lot of fans); also, I don’t have the feeling that you can contribute a lot as regards content due to the language barrier. Given that MartinV reverted the changes I had made, it seemed necessary to do some convincing. I am aware that you are wary of English Wikipedia, but I assure you that all discussion on formatting will come from here and not here. Also, the language barrier is something I am aware of. I studied German for four years, and will soon be obtaining a grammar book to help. I do not intend to provide prose to articles unless I can be sure it is correct German. I am also aware that you dislike the English articles' formatting. I will take every precaution to ensure I am not simply running an English agenda. Consensus shall be made by members of German Wikipedia, and I do not have any intention of bringing meatpuppets over to German Wikipedia. I will revive the project, assuming that MartinV won't simply revert my edits again. @Maengss: Hm, since I come from the background of German WP, which generally has no articles about fictional characters, I’m probably not the right person to assist you here.
