Armenian church architecture
editDear, can you help to improve this: Armenian church architecture? Great thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zyzzzzzy (talk • contribs)
- I will. But I need to do find some sources first. --Երևանցի talk 22:10, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Zyzzzzzy: I found a small overview of Armenian architecture in the Soviet Armenian Encyclopedia. [1] This doesn't say much about church architecture, but still useful information. I'll try to dig in more. --Երևանցի talk 23:14, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Your opinion
editDear, don't you think that the image of Garegin Nzhdeh should be included in the infobox? Thanks.
- What do you suggest regarding the article of Mher Mkrtchyan. It is fixed as Funzik Mkrtchyan.... However, he is more commonly known as Mher Mkrtchyan among Armenians. The inscription on his tombstone is also Mher, not Frunzik. (File:Mher kev12.jpg). Thanks.--Zyzzzzzy (talk) 11:05, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
- His real name is Mher, but colloquially he is almost always referred to as "Frunzik", including in film credits (for example, in 01-99 its "Ֆ. Մկրտչյան", Kidnapping, Caucasian Style also mentions "Frunzik" instead of Mher). Google yields 90,600 results for "Ֆրունզիկ" and 78,7000 results for "Մհեր Մկրտչյան". In Russian, "Frunzik Mkrtchyan" (136,000) has even more advantage over "Mher Mkrtchyan" (39,900). I think we should go by WP:COMMONNAME here and as you can see Frunzik is more common than Mher.
- Nzhdeh could easily be included in the infobox, but I think it would be best to exclude politicians (the only politician included there is Vazgen Sargsyan, but he was primarily a military figure, while Nzhdeh is better known for his political views). If it was up to me, I would include Aram Manukian in the infobox instead of Nzhdeh, because he was the main leader of the Van Resistance (basically the only major resistance during the Armenian Genocide) and the "savior" of Eastern Armenia as he had a major role in organizing the Battle of Sardarapat. --Երևանցի talk 23:25, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
- I do not agree with you in keeping the article as Frunzik for many reasons:
- His stage name was not always credited as Frunzik, in mahy cases he was credited as Mher.
- His name on his tombstone is Mher, not Frunzik.
- A street in Yerevan was named after him as "Mher Mkrtchyan", not Frunze or Frunzik Mkrtchyan.
- "Mher Mkrtchyan" at google search gives 169,000 results, while "Frunze Mkrtchyan" gives 101,000.
- A 2005 Armenia stamp issued in memory of him bears the name Mher, not Frunzik.
Hence, I suggest to restore the name Mher Mkrtchyan.--Zyzzzzzy (talk) 06:54, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
- Please provide examples of films where he is credited as Mher Mkrtchyan. Name on a stamp, street name and such things don't really mean anything when considering WP:COMMONNAME. Frunze is not the same as Frunzik. --Երևանցի talk 05:51, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- "Frunzik Mkrtchyan" results only 39,000 at Google!! However, in most Armenian movies he is credited as Ֆ.(Մ.) Մկրտչյան, while in theatrical shows he is credited as Մհեր Մկրտչյան. I forgot to mention that a renowned theatre in Yerevan (on Khorenatsi street) is also named after him as <<Մհեր Մկրտչյան>> արտիստական թատրոն: For all the reasons mentioned above, I guess Mher is more appropriate than Frunze or Frunzik.--Zyzzzzzy (talk) 04:08, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
- Now on a second glance, I think Mher is more suitable. The Library of Congress goes with Mher Mkrtchyan [2]. So does the Soviet Armenian Encyclopedia [3]. Please vote here: Talk:Frunzik_Mkrtchyan#Requested_move --Երևանցի talk 05:14, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

"no state officials were held responsible"
editAleksandr Grigoryev This phrase is completely POV. One would ask why should state officials be held responsible? Nobody is blind here and we all understand that the government is brutally suppressing a popular uprising, but we're not judges here and we're not to blame everything on one side. Let's stick to WP:NPOV, please. --Երևանցի talk 22:32, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
- Did you read the article? It was officially announced soon after the incident of December 1 that people responsible in violent disperse of Maidan were Popov (head of Kiev city administration), Sivkovych (deputy chairman of Security Council), and chief of city police. Yet none were prosecuted in any way. How is that POV? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 22:52, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

About Hilda Tchoboian
editHi Yerevantsi. I don't understand why you nominated this article for speedy deletion. There is enough press coverage about this person to at least meet a "credible claim of significance". (Yes, I am well aware of the context here.) Pete AU --Shirt58 (talk) 09:14, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- "press coverage" doesn't make someone notable. Also, "enough" is always debatable. There are Armenian community leaders almost in every country, that doesn't mean we should make articles on them. --Երևանցի talk 18:17, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

User help
editUser Mersin01 is an azeri user that has started to make nonconstructive edits to Armenian related pages and he is not giving reason as to why he is making the edits. On the Sari Gelin page the user kept removing Armenian from the sentence: "In Turkey, it is often considered to be an Armenian song that originated in Eastern Turkey", even though the citations say otherwise, and calling it "fraud information". Now the user has moved to the Armenian Language article and for no reason adding "unrecognized stated" next to Karabakh in the section Official Language in..." section. When i explained to the user it already mentions Karabakh is self-proclaimed the user ignored it and reverted the edit. Because of the users inability to explain the changes i was blocked for edit warring a couple of days ago and i dont want to get blocked again. Ninetoyadome (talk) 16:23, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Van, sieges, and defenses
editHi Yerevantsi, I carried out the move of 1896 and 1915 defenses of Van as requested. I was about to move Siege of Van (1548) to Siege of Van until I realized the other events could still be called siege, so the 1548 one would be a poor WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. So there's now a dab at Defense of Van, which shows the current titles of all three articles. If you check the What links here, there are some incoming links in mainspace that will have to be fixed at some point, though some of those are from navboxes, which I've already fixed. If we revisit this in a day or two, it may be updated. Meanwhile, could you rewrite Defense of Van (1915) to reflect the new name? Thanks, BDD (talk) 21:53, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

editYour recent editing history at Turkey shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Canterbury Tail talk 17:51, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

History of the Armenian Americans in Los Angeles
editHi! I reversed your redirect at History of the Armenian Americans in Los Angeles. Here are reasons why:
- 1. In fact the article content was developed independently of Armenian American. If this article focuses too much on Los Angeles, "Armenian American" should be refocused to an overall national focus while History of the Armenian Americans in Los Angeles has the Los Angeles-specific stuff (there have been Armenian communities elsewhere, such as Stockton, California, Chicago, etc)
- 2. Sources that specifically focus on Los Angeles Armenians exist. That alone gives the article the WP:GNG notability to be separate.
- 3. You may want to read this AFD discussion and understand why a merge is not the right thing to do: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/History_of_the_Hmong_in_Merced,_California
WhisperToMe (talk) 22:54, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- @WhisperToMe:: so what? There are large Italian American communities in many US cities, does that mean we have to create article for each city? Same goes for many other ethnic groups. Most Armenian Americans are concentrated in the LA area either way and the Armenian American page, particularly Armenian_American#California section has sufficient information about that particular region and I don't see the necessity of this article. --Երևանցի talk 17:13, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
- "There are large Italian American communities in many US cities, does that mean we have to create article for each city?" - Template:Italian Americans by location = Yes, or for that matter, whatever cities and states in where there is enough written information
- I've read that historically many Armenian Americans settled outside of LA in places like Fresno (where Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. is from), so it's possible to have a broader focus for Armenian American while History of the Armenian Americans in Los Angeles focuses specifically on LA.
- Whether a subject is eligible for creation on Wikipedia depends on how much has been written about it. There's been a lot written specifically on Armenians in LA. One of the rationales for keeping Hmong in Merced is "there's lots of sources so there should be an article" and "this would be too much to merge to any one article"
