Cima della Bondasca
editHi Zacharie, On Swisstopo the height for this peak is given as 3267m not 3289m, which you changed it to. Could you shed any light on this? Thanks, Ericoides (talk) 08:20, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Bristen
editHey Zacharie
Sorry, I was a know it all... you seem to be right stating that Bristen belongs to the Glarus Alps. I was obviously influenced by my "patriotism" (too strong a word, but couldn't find another one suiting better)... It seems to me though that these definition of different parts of the alps is a little bit spongy. Using political names for these is a bit unfortunate... As I am not in the position to change that I will have to leave it this way... ;-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Serafina marteen (talk • contribs) 19:37, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for your hint. You're right of course! I changed it just now. Obviously I still have to learn a lot about wikipedia and how to apply my research knowledge correctly... Serafina marteen (talk) 16:50, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
With a height of x
editCan I just make the small point that the construction "With a height of 3,328 metres above sea level, X is the highest peak in Y" that appears in many of your articles sounds very much like a direct translation from the German (?) and doesn't sound right in English. We would write "X (3,228 metres) is the highest peak in Y". The "with" phrase sounds very strange! Thanks, Ericoides (talk) 07:36, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I think "reaching a height of" would be better, although I think that simpler constructions are usually superior, zB, "The Hornenhorn is 3,000 m high and is the highest mountain in Hornland", rather than "Reaching a height of 3,000 m, the Hornenhorn is the highest mountain in Hornland". But that is just my personal preference. Incidentally, isn't "mit eine Hōhe von 3.000 m" a German construction? I thought it was, hence my thinking that yours was a direct translation!) Swiss space systems S3 in french/german
editHello Zacharie, yesterday I've tried begining to translate your article about S3 to french and german. They were both not accepted by the admin's. It's a pitty for swiss people to have to read english. They should have the option to choose their native language. In particular if it's the language where such a company is located. Perhaps you have a idea how we can handle this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bpf72 (talk • contribs) 09:48, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hello. Sorry I have no idea of what are the inclusion criteria of French and German wiki. But probably the best thing you can do is to start an article about Payerne Airport (there are no French nor German versions of it) and include there all relevant information. Then you could do a redirect. IMHO that would be better than nothing at all. ZachG (Talk) 19:23, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of mountains of Switzerland accessible by public transport, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Birg (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Wikipedia is not a travel guide, content such as how to get to places is not encyclopedic, and does not belong here--Jac16888 Talk 15:35, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not sure but I read carefully WP:NOTGUIDE and it doesn't say anything about what you mentioned (how to get to a place). In mountain articles you normally find a description of the normal and other routes to the summit. ZachG (Talk) 16:02, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
- That list is not exclusive, it is saying that content you would find in a travel guide may not belong here. A section on "how to get to us" is clearly something you would find in a brochure or guide (or indeed on the tourist website for that location, [1]), it is not something you should have in an encyclopedia article--Jac16888 Talk 16:07, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
- It was mainly a style issue, but I think it's ok now. I'll see if I can improve the article further. ZachG (Talk) 16:31, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
- By the way, you might want to use the template
{{travel guide}}
next time you see something similar. I think it's a better option than simply deleting the content, especially when it's just a writing style issue that can be fixed easily. ZachG (Talk) 20:08, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Matterhorn
editGood afternoon!
I noticed that you'd started a conversation regarding improvement of Matterhorn article and hope you can help me :) I'm trying to enhance the quality of the Matterhorn article in Russian Wiki and I have one quick question. Do you know some good sources (web, books, magazines, etc.) where I can find detailed description of Matterhorn geography: faces, ridges, glaciers, nearby places, etc.? There is good section in en-wiki but there is no sourses for that part. Thank you in advance for your answer in any case! Have a good rest of the day! :) --KpokeJlJla (talk) 16:56, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hello and greetings from Pakistan!
- I just came back from K2 base camp, hence the late answer. In the article infobox you will find a link to a detailed topo map (1347 matterhorn). - Here we are:
- Base maps: Topographic map, Journey through time maps, Primary surfaces
- Elevation: Slopes over 30°
- Geology: Geol. Atlas of Switzerland, Main lithological groups, Last glacial max, Origin of rocks, Tectonic map 500
- Soils: Potential permafrost distribution
- Hydrology: 2km2 sub catchment areas, 40km2 sub catchment areas
- NB: Make sure your browser is compatible with map.geo.admin.ch. Most maps are clickable but with Google Chrome it doesn't work...
- Hope this will be helpful to you. It is only one website, but there is lot there. There are also some interesting books (though mostly for history) available online: Tour of the Matterhorn: A Trekking Guide (only partially available), The Matterhorn, The Ascent of the Matterhorn and The Valley of Zermatt and the Matterhorn: A Guide. ZachG (Talk) 15:28, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

Bavarian mountains
editHi Zacharie, thank you for your support with the Mountains of the Alps project. I just saw your comment on Mountains of Bavaria and we do need to add the Alpine ones. But as you may know, not all Bavarian mountains are in the Alps, e.g. those in the Bavarian Forest, Bavarian Rhön, Fichtelgebirge and so on. They're all part of Germany's Central Uplands. Cheers. --Bermicourt (talk) 16:19, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- Sure, I actually meant "Alpine mountains" (fixed). I scanned the category:Mountains of Bavaria and I found more than 400 not in the category:Mountains of the Alps, with about 2/3 (based on a quick sampling) in the Alps. Maybe you can have a look. ZachG (Talk) 16:36, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Article assessments
editHi Zacharie - I noticed you've been romping through, adding gradings to the Alps pages, which is brilliant. The chart on the Project page is really starting to get populated and is making some sense now. I've a question for you -are you at the same time also making any assessment of the quality of the articles, or just adding the alps-importance status?
I'm not very familiar with making these quality assessments, so have held off contributing. However, if you are doing a quality assessment, could you take a look at the Aiguille de Bionnassay article which I've been working hard to upgrade this month. It's gone from a one sentence stub for the last five or more years, to hopefully something a lot more useful. Even if I could, I'm sure I shouldn't be assessing my own work, anyway. Cheers. Parkywiki (talk) 02:07, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
- No, I'm mainly rating the importance. But I assessed your article anyway, thanks for the improvement. ZachG (Talk) 12:52, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of List of volcanoes in Europe

All French attempts to order orders have failed and now there is an investigation by the court of Aosta. You can read it in the references. The article risks to slide in fantasy.82.51.125.166 (talk) 08:21, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
- That is why citations are needed, or statements clearly marked as 'needing citations' if they do not. To me (as a UK citizen) the French position seems ridiculous. But both sides will undoubtedly have an official position on this. I would certainly wish to avoid a long list of citations being added for no good reason (especially if they're all from one nation), as seems now to be happening with the last sentence of the 'Ownership' section. Ten at the last count! Nick Moyes (talk) 09:59, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
Indeed, the French position has no solid foundation. I have posted clear articles from which it is clear that the activity of the French mayors on Italian territory is nothing. It seems that they want to lengthen a ridiculous story.82.51.125.166 (talk) 11:48, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
- Note that I'm going to rewrite that part with the sources you provided. Quite clearly, you won't be able to provide a quote (even from a non-neutral source) for "under the control of the...". Please also note that removing maintenance tags without addressing them, like you did, may lead to a block. Zach (Talk) 15:28, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Wait until you find consensus before writing. There is too much fantasy in that article. Marshal Viglione of the Guardia di Finanza is keeping the area and the border case under control as reported in the latest source. The words of Marshal Viglione are clear and also the position of the prosecutor of Aosta who is investigating. According to official treaties and official NATO maps, the border line is the watershed. All this is reported in the quotes. The rest is chauvinism.82.51.125.166 (talk) 08:27, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

Discussion - Chocolate content
editThere is a discussion at Talk:List of chocolate bar brands#Chocolate content. This was never brought up in the inclusion discussion. It's about the percentage of chocolate in a bar to be considered for inclusion in the list. Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 01:52, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

Biodiversity Monitoring Switzerland
editDear Mr Grossen, the link to Pro Specie Rara is very misleading, as the Biodiversity Monitoring Switzerland BDM in its current form no longer analyses genetic diversity and in particular the diversity of farm animals and plants. The focus is on the diversity of species and habitats at various scales. The Z1 indicator "Change in the number of all domesticated livestock breeds and agricultural plant varieties recognized in Switzerland" was discontinued in 2014 due to cost-cutting measures (see https://www.biodiversitymonitoring.ch/index.php/de/archiv). Please respect the removal of the link! Thank you! Milkwort (talk) 08:50, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Why was pršut split from prosciutto?
editThis split was apparently made without any explanation on the talk page. Your edit summary says another dry-cured ham, not called "prosciutto", which is false: what is called "pršut" in South Slavic languages is invariably referred to as "prosciutto" in English, and therefore it belongs in the article for prosciutto per WP:COMMONNAME.
South Slavic "pršut" is simply a variant of prosciutto and it does not warrant its own article, just like we don't have four separate articles for sofrito, sofregit, soffritto and refogado. Un assiolo (talk) 16:40, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi. If you read the pršut and Njeguški pršut articles, then you will not see any reference to "prosciutto" other than "it is similar to it", hence the split. If those specialties are actually called "prosciutto" in English (in WP:RS), then I think it should be first clearly stated in their introduction (like: "Njeguški pršut is a type of prosciutto..."). And then there will be no problem with having them in the Prosciutto article. So, feel free to merge again the pages, but not without serious references. Zach (Talk) 14:57, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
Hey :)
editSo happy to see another member of chocolate cabal here. I'm looking at getting types of chocolate up to featured list and good topic, by getting all the subpages to good article. Would love to have your help ~ I also hope you enjoy the history of chocolate page that just got to good article, and chocolate in savory cooking that is likely about to also be promoted. - I will certainly enjoy reading all your work (especially chocolate in savoury cooking). Unfortunately I'm not really active this year, since I've been busy with other activities, including ...making chocolate. Very fun and time consuming activity, to say the least! Happy editing!
