Re: Joining LAF Task Force
editThank you for the invitation. I've been following news about the Lebanese army ever since the 2006 war, and I'm honored to be a part of the team. I appriciate your and all the guy's work on Military Photos. Hoboron (talk) 22:06, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
- I have marked your profile as a member of the Lebanese military history task force.
Welcome to Milhist!
editHi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPMILHIST Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, detailed article and content review, writing contests, article logistics, and other tasks.
- We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, periods, and conflicts.
- We've developed a style guide that covers article structure and content, template use, categorization, and many other issues of interest.
- If you're looking for something to work on, there are many articles that need attention, as well as a number of review alerts and copy-editing alerts.
- The project has a stress hotline available for your use.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! --ROGER DAVIES talk 20:57, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Re:Template
editThanks. I intend to keep it that way, just as to show the major elements. The rest could be seen in the navbox. As for Operation Benin, I'm impressed, good job and keep up the good work.Alain08 (talk) 22:04, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Barnstar
editThank you Zaher for the Barnstar, I appreciate it man. Keep up the good work.Alain08 (talk) 11:23, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi
editHi Zaher, I want to discuss with you three issues that I was wondering about:
- Regarding the Legion of the Orient, this article will be comprising of several legions with different nationalities. So if we want to narrow our topic it would be the Lebanese Legion. This is because when I search for sources on the net, I find Armenian and Cypriot stuff about the matter.
- The name of the Nahr el Bared, we should come to a compromise regarding the name. Is it Nahr el Bared (like in the article about the martyrs' list) or Nahr al-Bared (like in the LAF article). And should we always refer to it by the name "2007 Lebanese Conflict"?
- I've found a source that could be helpful for the Mohammad Zgheib military base article, http://www.lebarmy.gov.lb/PrintArticle.asp?id=5609. Hope it will enable its expansion.
Alain08 (talk) 09:05, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- Concerning the Legion of the Orient article, I think you're right this will probably be the wisest decision for the time being. We could mention the other sections and put under it (with "this section" instead of "this user talk page") :
This user talk page or section is in a state of significant expansion or restructuring. You are welcome to assist in its construction by editing it as well. List of Lebanese Army soldiers killed during Nahr el Bared Operation
editI see you've corrected your mistake, but just a pointer; the title was only one of a (multitude) of issues anyway. The AfD page will present you with a more comprehensive view. Ironholds (talk) 16:37, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Lists
editHi Zaher, last time user Ironholds talked to me and linked this Wikipedia Not Memorial. I think that changing the title would not be enough, that's because we're adding names of soldiers who are unknown, and thus irrelevant to Wikipedia. Imagine other task forces doing lists of the soldiers killed in the World War II, the list just never ends :) I should confess that he's right. Please reconsider this matter. Alain08 (talk) 08:35, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Source for modification
editUnfortunately, I cannot. I heard it a lot on and after Independence Day after we saw the Mirages, but I could not find it online. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Issues in MOD
editSorry about that.Jeannassar5 (talk) 19:07, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Navbox
editRegarding the {{Military of lebanon navbox}} I think we should organize in more detail the bases of the ground forces. We could Generally add the names of the regional commands eg. North regional command but with a wiki link to Bahjat Ghanem mil base (North regional command) Then, as a subcategory we could put the bases under their control such as the Youssef Rahmeh military base.right|120px
By the way is it George Naghyaweh mil. base or George Nghayweh mil. base ? --Alain08 (talk) 09:41, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Concerning the logo in the mil. navbox, I have previously added the one you have uploaded but later they said that it's too big and should not be put in a template. That is why I've uploaded Image:LAF Flag.gif, because it's smaller than yours and acceptable in a temp. Alain08 (talk) 09:24, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
You said in the caption on the LAF article that the pic near the brigades is a unofficial flag of the LAF. Isn't it considered a logo or emblem/seal ? Alain08 (talk) 22:56, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Caption
editI understand that, it just that I've put it in that way just to relate to the topic in the history section (regarding the army day). I know about the rest. IMO It's better to put these pics in the article with a certain relation with the content written. Alain08 (talk) 15:22, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi there, that's a great article that you put together. I played around some with the wording. You're obviously not using regular American English and obviously you're not required to do so. Point is, if you disagree with my edits, and you prefer your style, just revert me :-) --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 04:41, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, maybe I'll work a bit more on the article later on. Btw, did you notice that there's a non-free problem at the DYK?--brewcrewer (yada, yada) 17:53, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Why don't you just remove the pic?--brewcrewer (yada, yada) 18:46, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Re: Lebanese army first flag
editHi you are indeed right I screwed up... I normally check that there is a counterpart on commons, but I think I missed that image. My apologies :(. -- lucasbfr talk 09:30, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- The user that made the tagging also stated that the image was in the public domain. Since I am not sure that's true, I have reverted the copyright informations to your version. Can you please have a look to see whether or not {{PD-Lebanon}} is eligible here (have a look at the restrictions)? -- lucasbfr talk 09:34, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah that's what I saw too. There's no chance it could be in the public domain then? -- lucasbfr talk 10:02, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Lebanese Commando Regiment
editYou would like for me to assess your DYK nom? OK, sure, I'll have a look. Manxruler (talk) 10:03, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- OK. I've looked at the article. The most important thing you need to do is to add a citation for the hook fact. The fact is in beginning of the article ("is considered the first special forces regiment in the Lebanese Armed Forces.") but needs a citation to for the hook to be confirmed. Secondly, there are large parts of the article that are unreferenced and thus in need of citations. Thirdly the way you've referenced the very large section called "Selection and training" is not very good. One citation for each sub-section would be much, much better. Manxruler (talk) 11:50, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'll take this point by point like you did:
- That equipment and uniforms have been seen in photos (by whom?) is not a valid reference in Wikipedia (see Wikipedia:Sources).
- Same as above:
- If that's the main tasks of every special force around the world, including the Lebanese Commando Regiment, then that needs a reference. There has to be a reference somewhere regarding the tasks of the Lebanese Commando Regiment.
- I'll show you where to put the training references by tagging the places with "citation needed"
- Good that you'll provide the refs for that section.
- Cheers. Manxruler (talk) 12:37, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'll take this point by point like you did:
- Hi again. You're welcome. With regards to a forum ref, that's a tricky one. Wikipedia:SELFPUBLISHED is very critical of forums, but I'm very uncertain since we're talking about photos here. I would ask the folks over at Wikipedia:Help desk. Good luck. Manxruler (talk) 12:54, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Now, now. I meant that you should go over to the Help desk and ask. I don't really know which forum and the relevant details so you should do the asking over there. Good work on the refs, btw. Manxruler (talk) 13:21, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Problem with a DYK hook
editHi Zaher1988! I have a bit of a problem about your DYK nomination here. Can you respond there? Nice article BTW. Cheers. Chamal talk 13:26, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Ground forces equipment
editAbout this part I think we should make a separate article about the equip's just like the out of service one (Lebanese Ground Forces Equipment). That way we would remove the "space consuming" table from the general article of the LAF and we could add a "main article" link right before the stated info. The main reason is that the Lebanese Armed Forces article became relatively large and could need some division. Alain08 (talk) 22:33, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Well I understand that, but it doesn't make sense to repeat the ref.'s (from the same location and site) in the same little paragraph, eg. :
The regiment was founded in October 1966 under the instructions of the commander-in-chief, General Emile Boustany [1]. During the Lebanese civil war, the regiment was divided among the different divided commands. A result of one of the divisions was the foundation of the counter-sabotage regiment or Al-Moukafaha [1].
If you want you could paraphrase the sentence so that it could be referenced once in that part. In that way you'll not be stating several sub parts in the reflist at the end (abdcdefghij...)
And I know that the ref. should not be put before the point (.) in the sentence, it should be put after it. This is not my philosophy its just how all the articles are made in Wikipedia.
Concerning the equip. article, well I think we should start with the new article, even if the info needs to be expanded. You'll be able to expanded it separately. P.S. In the table you only reference the equip's that are going to be delivered and there is no ref. for the present equip's. (except for the Minecat). Alain08 (talk) 09:26, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
By the way, before you undid edits i've made please talk to me, and say your opinion. I know your intention is good but this is a main cause for edit wars, and we don't want that. Alain08 (talk) 10:42, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Nice to have cleared these issues out, concerning the undid edits: it's just that links such as discussion threads from these kind of websites often contain inadequate numbers and info (sometimes exaggerating and sometimes the opposite), and probably state personal opinions. That's why I took the initiative and removed it from the external links section. Nice hearing from you :) Alain08 (talk) 11:47, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Since you've put in that way, I think you're right. I agree to re-put the logo. Alain08 (talk) 11:55, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Minimi?
editHi, I have no way of identifying which nationality the soldiers in your images belong to. We need a published source for the information, not a few randomn photos, but I will retain Lebabon on the list so long as you can find that source in a realistic amount of time. Koalorka (talk) 20:06, 28 December 2008 (UTc)
Julia Boutros
editHi, I think if you look closer you will see I just separated the article into sections and rearranged the biography section chronologically; I didn't really make any large-scale deletions. I only deleted some weasel words (that referred in an unencyclopaedic way to her talents and her mother's beautiful voice) as I mentioned in my edit summary. Copana2002 (talk) 06:30, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
I removed the flags because WP:MOSFLAG says that icons and flags should only be used to “help the reader rather than decorate”. In an alphabetical list of countries, the flags don't provide any useful function at all. But in an article body they do detract from nearby running text, by distracting the reader's eye. —Michael Z. 2009-01-10 05:10 z
- Thanks for the quotations, but I'm familiar with the guideline. I don't know what exactly you are trying to justify. If you are selecting those quotations to imply that all “lists and tables” should have flags, then you are quite wrong—the guideline does not say that at all. —Michael Z. 2009-01-10 14:02 z

RE:Attack class
editRegarding your edit to Attack class patrol boat, claiming that the Lebanese Navy is an operator of this ship class: would you be able to provide a source for this, please? The books on the Royal Australian Navy I own indicate that these ships were only sold on to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Also, would you be able to identify which ships were/are operated by Lebanon... this would be gret information to add to both the main article and the articles on each ship.
Thanks in advance. -- saberwyn 21:06, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- The reference you added appears to be to a different class of patrol boats. The Australian attack class were not the same as the British Tracker class, and the two classes have quite different characteristics. Nick-D (talk) 07:12, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- Then i think the page title should be changed to something like, Australian Attack Class, rather than Attack Class alone..
- What is your opinion?
- --Zaher1988 · Talk|Contributions 12:37, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- The Australian ships were the Attack class and the British ships were the Tracker class, so there's no need to disambiguate the classes. Nick-D (talk) 02:45, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- Based on what I can find, these ships are referred to as the Attacker or Tracker class. I have created Attacker class patrol boat, and added disambiguation notices to both pages. -- saberwyn 06:44, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
editHello Zaher1988! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
editHello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:04, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Unused. Superseded by File:Flag of the Lebanese Army.svg.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 07:39, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
