From today's featured articleBlack Moshannon State Park is a 3,480-acre (1,410 ha) Pennsylvania state park in Rush Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is just west of the Allegheny Front, 9 miles (14 km) east of Philipsburg on Pennsylvania Route 504, and is largely surrounded by Moshannon State Forest. The park surrounds a lake formed by a dam on Black Moshannon Creek. A bog in the park provides a habitat for diverse wildlife not common in other areas of the state, such as carnivorous plants, orchids, and species normally found farther north. The Seneca tribe used the Black Moshannon area as hunting and fishing grounds. European settlers clear-cut the vast stands of old-growth forest during the late 19th century. The forests were rehabilitated by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Many of the buildings built by the Corps stand in the park today and are protected on the National Register of Historic Places in three historic districts. (Full article...)

Cast members of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine participated in the show for seven seasons. Siddig El Fadil, later known as Alexander Siddig, was an early front runner for the part of Captain Benjamin Sisko. The producers thought he was too young for the role ultimately given to Avery Brooks (pictured). Instead, Siddig was offered the part of Dr. Julian Amoros, who was subsequently renamed to Julian Bashir. The series was originally intended to have Ro Laren, a character from The Next Generation, as a main character. However, after actress Michelle Forbes declined to sign on for a five- to six-year commitment for the series, the part was re-written to become Major Kira Nerys, with Nana Visitor cast in that role. There were several actors who appeared in Deep Space Nine in roles they had previously played in other Star Trek series. The most prominent of these was Colm Meaney, who played Chief Miles O'Brien. Meaney had first appeared as an unnamed crewman in the pilot episode, "Encounter at Farpoint", and went on to appear in a total of 52 episodes of The Next Generation. (Full list...)

San Lorenzo, also known as the Royal Church of Saint Lawrence, is a Baroque-style church in Turin, Italy. The present building was designed and built by the Italian architect Guarino Guarini from 1668 to 1687. This photograph shows the interior of the church's dome, the base of which is circular, although the lantern above it is octagonal. The dome itself is supported by eight ribs forming a lattice similar to those found in mosques and Romanesque churches in Spain. Photograph credit: Livioandronico2013
