This page is part of the WikiProject on Football and is intended to be used as a guide on template standardization.
Navigational boxes (navboxes)
editThis is a system for allowing all navigational boxes related to football organisations to be placed on any page without having to have them as separate boxes, thus making it simple to, for example unrealistic as it may be, group into one navbox the listing of the teams in the FA Premier League with the listing of the Asian football federations and the Man Utd infobox, together with standard links for Swedish football. Standard colours for header rows, standard methods for listing teams, and other standardizations have been introduced to make these boxes look good when combining several different pieces.
Under Wikipedia guidelines for external links and navigation templates, navboxes should not include any external links. A link to a team's official site should be given within an article's infobox or in its External links section, but not in the navbox.
They should not be used for squad lists or manager histories or for other similar uses. These should use the templates outlined at below.
Information boxes (infoboxes)
editCode | Where to use |

Squad lists
editClubs
editFor squad lists in club articles, use the following templates:
For instructions on how to use these templates, see Template talk:Football squad player
Players
editFor most major clubs and national teams, there are navboxes for the current squad that can be inserted at the foot of a player's biography. See Category:Association football squad templates for a full list.
To create a new squad template (having first checked there isn't one already) use the following templates:
- Football squad in conjunction with:
- Football squad2 player
- Football squad manager
For instructions on how to use these templates, see Template:Football squad/doc and Template talk:Football squad.
Managers
editFor most major clubs and national teams, there are navboxes for the current squad that can be inserted at the foot of a player's biography. See Category:Football manager history templates for a full list.
- Football manager history should be used in conjunction with:
- Football manager list entry
- Football manager last
Timesavers
editThe following templates are used with subst to save writing the entire link.
- fc - Creates a link in the format of <clubname>
- efs - Creates a link in the format of <season>
- nft - Creates a link in the format of <country>
- nfa - Creates a link to national football associations, in custom formats, for example Netherlands or Iran
- footin - Creates a link in the format of Football in <countryname>
- nft rank – Used for FIFA Rankings and Elo Ratings in national football team articles.
All such templates should be substituted. For example, use , which will produce <clubname>.
Others
edit- – For use with the statistics article of an international tournament
