Hancinema links for Korean films
editI'm not sure how many of you have looked at the site hancinema.net, but I'm wondering what you guys think for using it as an external link on korean films? Personally I use it pretty much exclusively to imdb in relation to korean films as I find it way more useful with a lot better information on it than imdb for korean films. There is of course the rare film not available on there, but most films from 2000 forward are listed there.--Crossmr (talk) 06:40, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'd say go ahead and add it to the Resources section of the task force page, if nothing else. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 07:11, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, I've done that. People can mull it over. its not something I'd want to add by hand if we decide to, I'd probably try to find a bored bot to automate the process.--Crossmr (talk) 07:27, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- Personally I find HanCinema to be an excellent resource for Korean films, and always tend to add a link to film and actor articles. As I recall, there was an issue last year with another editor removing such links (and those to Koreanfilm.org) as "linkspam", but I don't think it's an issue now. PC78 (talk) 00:11, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, I'm new to editing so I was just going over the Korean Cinema page and it seems like there hasn't been much activity on it. Is the Hancinema.net used so people can search more information on Korean films? Cinemastudent (talk) 03:50, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
External links in Template:Infobox Korean Film
editSince we have our own infobox for Korean films, I was wondering how other feel about removing the AMG link? In the vast majority of cases, I find AMG to be of little real use when it comes to Korean films. I was thinking that a link to KMDB or/and HanCinema might provide a more relevant alternative. Any opinions? PC78 (talk) 00:18, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- for older films we might want to do IMDB, for newer films we might want to do hancinema. I find for older stuff (pre 2000 and low budget stuff after 2000) its not really on hancinema, except for really big films in the pre-2000 era. While on the other hand a lot more of the older films are on IMDB, but a lot of newer ones seem to take more time getting on there. There are also issues with romanization of names, and because its user submitted it can lead to having multiple entries on actors and such.--Crossmr (talk) 02:06, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Good point about HanCinema. It's a great resource for recent films, but it only goes back as far as 1995 or so. PC78 (talk) 15:37, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'd say IMDB should stay, since it's pretty standard, though, ahem, not "Reliable". As for a Korea-specific database, I'd vote for KMDB. You're right about AMG, PC78, it's generally pretty useless for Korean cinema. Dekkappai (talk) 18:23, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I've replaced the AMG link in the infobox with a link to KMDB instead. The parameter works in the same way as the IMDb one, i.e. you only enter the five digit number at the end of the URL. Example:
| kmdb_id = 08753
which links to the Secret Sunshine profile on KMDb. PC78 (talk) 01:01, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Does anyone know anything about this film? This recent article suggests that filming has not yet begun, which would mean that the article fails WP:NFF and should therefore be deleted. PC78 (talk) 20:27, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- Strange... The only source is the IMDB profile, which is actually to Nunmul (Tears (film)). None of the main databases cover it yet. There may be some news items out on it, but the article as a whole looks like copyright-infringement-ish. He's a major director, and we may have to restart the article later if it gets made, but absent any sourcing at all and no film yet, I'd lean towards deleting it for now. Dekkappai (talk) 20:46, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry for the broken link, KOFIC won't let me link to the article for some reason; here is the same article on HanCinema. The title gets minimal ghits, and all I could find were a couple of articles from 2006, presumably when the film was first announced. I think I'll AfD it. PC78 (talk) 21:38, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- Right-- any actual information on the project-- planned an unfilmed, or to be filmed in the future-- should go at the Im Sang-soo article until it gets made. Dekkappai (talk) 21:40, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

This recently created film article is currently at AfD. I couln't find much about it (besides IMDB and KMDB profiles etc.), but according to this it's an award-winning film. Can anyone find any decent Korean-languge sources? PC78 (talk) 00:10, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Has anyone heard of this film? All I can find on google is a series of eshop listings (Amazon, etc) and no evidence of any theatrical release, or even basic details such as director and cast. I've tagged the article for notability concerns, but perhaps someone can find out the films Korean title and do a more thourough search? PC78 (talk) 23:15, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
editAs you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! I've added a page for the recent film Public Enemy Returns, but do not speak Korean. If anyone could help double check the Korean title I entered, or any other specifics, I'd appreciate it! Thanks --Gwythoff (talk) 18:36, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Korean cinema
editWikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.
We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.
A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.
We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:42, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.
Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

South Korean Actors and Historical Dramas
editI am plodding along trying to update bios on Korean TV actors and Korean Historical TV Dramas. I'm not too swift with the whole wiki markup and formatting thing yet, even though I've been doing this for about 2 years. Also, I can neither read nor write Hangul, so at times researching content for the articles I have been working on is tedious. I am wondering if any WikiProject Korea users would be interested in helping edit, translate, or otherwise assist with the articles I am (and will be) working on. Please see my contributions page if you are so inclined to assist. I'm also wondering if anyone knows of any print Korean entertainment magazines, books or articles I can purchase to use as references in writing articles, I would appreciate assistance in tracking them down. I am particularly interested in print periodicals that i could subscribe to. Asturnut (talk) 08:21, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Korean Movies in theatre with English subtitles
editThis year the government started an initiative and made a deal with Cinus theatres in myeong-dong and gangnam to show Korean movies with English subtitles. It got press and it is an official service. Should this be mentioned on the various films pages that they were part of this program? These can be verified during their run at [1], however there are no archives for later verification.--Crossmr (talk) 14:17, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- The best article to mention this may be Cinema of Korea, though not sure where else a mention is warranted. How big of a deal is this, though? What did the press say about the initiative? —Erik (talk • contrib) 18:38, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- The press was reporting that it was being done to make Seoul a more friendly city for expats and to promote Korean movies around the world.[2][3]. Though the articles are a little misleading. They give the impression that every Korean movie released will be shown there with English subs and it just hasn't proven true. While they've shown quite a few, it seems like they've only subtitled about half and there have been plenty which haven't had subtitles or were subtitled only for like a week and then quickly disappeared (like Thirst (2009 film))--Crossmr (talk) 23:53, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
AsianMediaWiki
editHello - 2 years ago AsianMediaWiki was placed on wikipedia's blacklist due to errors on my part for not being up with wiki etiquette. In that time I believe the site has grown to be a compelling source for Asian movie information - including Korean films. I have enquired about the removal and several persons (Beetstra and Mife_Lifeguard specifically) are supportive of the removal but request an editor from a related wiki project to make the request here MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist. If you are not familiar with our site some pages that might provided supplemental information to wikipedia are
http://asianmediawiki.com/Category:South_Korean_films <-- easy navigation to nail down movies by year of release (even movies in production) / genre / or alphabetically
http://asianmediawiki.com/The_Chaser

http://asianmediawiki.com/Jun-ki_Lee
http://asianmediawiki.com/The_Case_of_Itaewon_Homicide
http://asianmediawiki.com/Aeja
I would really like to get the stigma of the blacklist off of our site if possible. I would be more than happy to contribute edits on wikipedia if advised on which articles would need help. I'm also usually on #mediawiki in the irc channel and would be happy to discuss further or chat about movies in general if interested. thanks -- --RamenLover (talk) 12:07, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hey in the meantime I noticed the Lee Jun Ki page now incorporated parts of the Jun-ki Lee from here http://asianmediawiki.com/Jun-ki_Lee, which is fine - but could you attribute the source and someone ask to remove the blacklist for our site? This is part of our original bio :
(http://asianmediawiki.com/Jun-ki_Lee) ... Jun-ki was a fairly normal kid who enjoyed sports & computers. He first became interested in the performing arts as a high school student after watching a play of “Hamlet.”[1] Jun-ki Lee initially failed to get into college and, because of this, he moved to Seoul with almost nothing, but a dream to work in the entertainment field. For the next couple of years, Jun-ki worked at various part time jobs, before gaining acceptance into the Seoul Institute of the Arts. In 2001, Jun-ki Lee made his debut as a model for fashion brand So Basic, appearing alongside actress Hee-seon Kim.[2]
and this is now on the wikipedia page:
(wikiepdia Lee Jun Ki) ... Jun Ki was a fairly normal individual who enjoyed sports and computers. Lee initially failed to get into college and because of this, he moved to Seoul with almost nothing in his pocket, but a dream to work in the entertainment industry. For the next couple of years, Lee worked at various part-time jobs, before gaining acceptance into the Seoul Institute of the Arts. Lee later started out as a model and held minor roles in Korean dramas. In 2001, he first appeared in the television commercial for the So Basic fashion label, appearing alongside actress Kim Hee Sun.
please look into this -- --RamenLover (talk) 11:30, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- but could you attribute the source To which source are you referring?--Crossmr (talk) 12:33, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Crossmr, I believe you are referring to the original AsianMediaWiki article? If so you will note the citation marks in the original artcile ([1] & [2]) which is laid out in the reference section at the bottom of the article. If you are asking about the orignal asianmediawiki url, I listed that above (http://asianmediawiki.com/Jun-ki_Lee). If I am misunderstanding you please clarify? Thanks ... --RamenLover (talk) 13:18, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- RamenLover is the site owner, clearly a WP:COI. AsianMediaWiki is a Link normally to be avoided and fails Wikipedias specific inclusion requirements of our External Links policy, Verifiability Policy and Reliable Source guidelines.--Hu12 (talk) 20:37, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Pageview stats
editAfter a recent request, I added WikiProject Films/Korean cinema task force to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Korean cinema task force/Popular pages.
The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the toolserver tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 04:07, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
WP 1.0 bot announcement
editThis message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:30, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Unreferenced living people articles bot
editUser:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.
The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Korean cinema task force/Unreferenced BLPs<<<
If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.
Thank you. Okip 02:48, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Hundreds of articles under this task force subject to deletion
editIf the Delete rationales prevail at this, this, this, and this AfD, then all film articles which use the presence of awards and notable personnel to justify their existence here, rather than WP:GNG, are subject to deletion. In Japanese and Korean cinema, this would include many articles listed at such awards as:
- Blue Dragon Film Awards
- Chunsa Film Art Awards
- Grand Bell Awards
- Korean Film Awards
- PaekSang Arts Awards
- Pusan Film Critics Awards
and many of the Japanese films listed at:
I suggest editors back up their work and move it to a project actually interested in an unbiased, uncensored coverage of world cinema, as it is likely to be deleted here. Regards. Dekkappai (talk) 16:57, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Women's History Month is in March
editHi everyone at WikiProject Korean cinema!
Women's history month is around the corner, in March, and we're planning the second WikiWomen's History Month.
This event, which is organized by volunteers from the WikiWomen's Collaborative, supports improving coverage about women's history during the month of March. Events take place both offline and online. We are encouraging WikiProjects to focus on women's history related to their subject for the month of March. Ideas include:
- Improving coverage about Korean women filmmakers, actors, directors, producers, and executives
- Developing content about women owned Korean film businesses
We hope you'll participate! You can list your your project focus here, and also help improve our to-do list. Thank you for all you do for Wikipedia! SarahStierch (talk) 21:49, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Miracle in Cell No. 7 - plot - copyright
editHi, I just recently translated a few articles about south korean films for the german wikipedia (i.e. The Thieves and The Good, The Bad, The Weird). When checking the references for Miracle in Cell No. 7 I discovered the plot beeing an almost 1:1 copy from the referenced source. I am not sure about the copyright rules here, so I just wanted to mention. --HanFSolo (talk) 13:02, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
Jeon Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard
editI noticed that the requested articles section wants an article for Jeon Woo-chi : The Taoist Wizard. However, there was already an article for this movie: Jeon Woo Chi. I went ahead and moved the article to the prior name. As I am very new to this project, I don't know whose place it is to remove that from the requested articles page. Popular pages tool update
editAs of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).
Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.
If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:13, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Popular pages report
editWe – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Korean cinema task force/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Film.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Film, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
editHello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
