Old talk
editAfter 3 years living in Kourou I think there is several things to correct in the article. My english is not good enought to do it myself.
1. I never heard the "White City" alias.
2. The population of Kourou is composed by people from almost all european nationalities, not only metropolitan french people, but also Spaniards, Italians, German, Danish, Swedish, etc..
3. During Rocket Launch No part of the town is closed. Just the road to the space port but from the city outwards.
4. Kourou was a small fishermen village before the space center arrival. The Prison Colony was in the island in front of Kourou but the city did not exist as city before space center construction.
As new informations... I think there are 2 important things : Kourou hosts a regiment of french Legion Etrangere (the 3rd) and actually population has decreased by the crisis in european espace project... between 2000 and 2003 almost 2000 people left the town. - — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.219.118.212 (talk • contribs) 2006-06-09T18:41:09

Adding pictures more representative of the diversity of the city
editHi, I just wanted to warn that I have the intention to Change some pictures in this article that are more representative of the diversity of the city. If someone are opposed to this changes in any way, we can discuss about it here ! PouLagwiyann (talk) 13:08, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- If you mean you want to revert my edit of the infobox and put back the pictures that were there before my edit, then I think there are various problems with your pictures (which is why I replaced them with new ones). First of all your pictures are large, take a lot of space (4 pictures in total at the top of the infobox), and make the infobox clunky. I purposefully selected smaller pictures, and only 3 of them (vs 4), so as not to make the infobox super large. This is after all an encyclopedia article, not a postcard or a tourist brochure. Another problem with your pictures is 2 of them represent things that are not really Kourou. One shows the Salvation Islands, which are off the coast of Kourou, but do not belong to the commune of Kourou (they actually belong to the commune of Cayenne). So it's misleading to show them in the infobox of Kourou. Another shows the French Guiana Space Center, which although located in the very large commune of Kourou, is in fact more than 3 km outside of the town of Kourou. This article is about the town of Kourou (there is already a dedicated article to the French Guiana Space Center), so it's odd to display a picture of the French Guiana Space Center as the main picture in the article about the town of Kourou. The pictures I put in the infobox, contrary to yours, show the actual town of Kourou, as well as its beach (along which the town was built). ព្រះមហាក្សត្ររាជ (talk) 22:12, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- Well, the only reason people go to Kourou is mainly for the Guiana Space Center and after the beaches and in the distance just in front of these beaches you can see the Salvation Islands, which yes they depend on Cayenne but are located in Kourou. When you take the boat to go to the islands you take the boat from Kourou (1 hour trip), it's extremely rare for people to make the 3 hour trip from Cayenne to go to the islands so yes, that's why the Salvation Islands are considered to be located in Kourou. But administratively depend on Cayenne. So the picture about Guiana Space Center, Salvation island are justified. After I can reduce these 2 images size, add them and let only the beach picture… PouLagwiyann (talk) 02:43, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
