This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Our Lady of Covadonga, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://traditioninaction.org/SOD/j225sd_OLCovadonga_9-07.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 23:47, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Our Lady of Covadonga
editA tag has been placed on Our Lady of Covadonga requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Pictures
editIm still getting new to Wikipedia and i want to know how to add pictures. Like in this article Cheryl Cox my infobox looks wierd without the picture. If you can leave a replay on my talk page that would help on how to do it.
Spongie555 Spongie555 (talk) 04:34, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Spongie555,thank you for your message
- You should be able to find out more about adding pictures in Wikipedia:Images
- Basically the code to add a picture looks like this:
- [[File:Example.png|thumb|left|alt=Example alt text |Example caption]]
- where File:Example.png is the name of the image
- this will give you the following result:
- In the case of adding an image to an infobox, as in your example Cheryl Cox
- The blank infobox will look like
{{Infobox Officeholder |honorific-prefix = |name = |honorific-suffix = |image = |imagesize = |order=39th Mayor of Chula Vista |term_start=2006 |term_end= |predecessor=Steve Padilla |successor=Incumbent
- You simply fill in the info in the image = section (you may have to add this, if it doesn't already exist) i.e:
{{Infobox Officeholder |honorific-prefix = |name = |honorific-suffix = |image = Example.png |imagesize = |order=39th Mayor of Chula Vista |term_start=2006 |term_end= |predecessor=Steve Padilla |successor=Incumbent
- Try it and see, but don't forget to press the ‘Preview’ button until you are happy with the result, then ‘Save page’.
- I hope this helps.
- Please let me know if you need any more assistance.
- Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 04:48, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Cox c.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Cox c.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 22:10, 3 April 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 22:10, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Org-shm1.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:Org-shm1.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria.
If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the image can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. 72.94.170.27 (talk) 03:48, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Cox c.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:Cox c.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

Fair use rationale for File:3rd_Avenue_Sign.jpg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to File:3rd_Avenue_Sign.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 04:47, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of St. Pius X Church (Chula Vista)
editA tag has been placed on St. Pius X Church (Chula Vista) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ttonyb (talk) 05:18, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

FAC withdrawn
editI appreciate that you are acting in good faith, but it is best if featured articles are nominated by people who have worked closely on them. In this way, they can give reasoned replies to reviewers and be familiar enough with the sources to act on suggested improvements. Someone who has not worked on the article can not provide this input, so the nomination may continue until opposition to it becomes so overwhelming that the article is failed; this takes away time from reviewers. While the Communism article is of reasonable quality, it is not yet of featured quality, and principal contributors must be consulted before a nomination, as required in the featured article candidate instructions. This article has citation tags and is not ready for FAC-- please consider peer review. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:35, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Copyright violations
editHello Spongie. It's come to several editors' attention that you appear to be uploading copyright violations—specifically, uploading images under claim of free use. Images like File:2108206-Third Avenue Sign-Chula Vista.jpg and File:Blog downtown chula vista.jpg do not belong to you; to confirm that the copyright holder allows free use, we need things like verified correspondence or similar. Your justifications for why images "have no copyright" (e.g., "Has no copyright as it is a painting and the author is deseased.") are based in misunderstandings of copyright law. Please read Wikipedia:Public domain, WP:NFC and consult guides such as this or other editors if you aren't sure about where protections apply, however continuing to upload violations will lead to a block. If you have any questions you can ask editors experienced in images, such as User:Jappalang or User:Elcobbola. Thanks, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 16:33, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Blog downtown chula vista.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Blog downtown chula vista.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jappalang (talk) 22:40, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
This image is purely decorative at the moment; hence, it could be deleted from the project. Wikipedia desires to be a resource for anyone to use; i.e. anybody can use what is on Wikipedia for any purpose: to sell, to modify, to give, to teach, etc. Parts of the community recognizes that for some things, it might be impossible to get free material. That is why the project set down the 10-criteria WP:NFCC for fair use of copyrighted material; as a compromise, the criteria are stricter than what the US government would consider in determining fair use. Please read WP:NFCC. At the moment, this image could not pass NFCC#8 (contextual significance). The seal does not help readers visualize anything significant about the city that cannot be said with words, and there is nothing in the article that actually discusses the history or design of the seal. Furthermore, you must give a detailed source: "The logo may be obtained from Chula Vista, California." does not really tell people where this image was obtained from. It would help you to follow David Fuch's advice above in learning the policies and guidelines that govern image copyrights for this project. Jappalang (talk) 22:40, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Battle of San Pasqual
editHello Spongie555, regarding your assessment of Battle of San Pasqual, can I ask why you've assessed it as a B class article? Its not really a big deal, but for the Military History project the general rule is that an article requires at least one (if not more) inline citations per paragraph to be considered a B class article. Currently the article does not meet this criteria so for the Military History project it should only be rated as a Start class article in my opinion (the project doesn't use C class, so if an article doesn't qualify for B class for Milhist, then it is either a start or a stub). The criteria can be found at WP:MHA, you can also list articles there for independent assessment or take part in the assessment of other people's articles against the criteria. Cheers. AustralianRupert (talk) 12:20, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Koji Gyotoku
editOn August 2, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Koji Gyotoku, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Thanks for the Barnstar award on Bhutan. It is particularly sweet since I have worked in that country in the 1960s and 70s as a young engineer, developing Hydropower Projects. In fact, the first GA artilces of Bhutan were done by Dr Blofeld and me and we also contributed to GA upgrade of Druk Air. By the way, will you be able to get some pictures of the Dechencholing Palace? I tried on flickr but the author refused to release the picture under free licence. If you could also get some refernces on the palace it would be helpful. I have seen your artile on the Football coach of Bhutan. Very nice work.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 06:14, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- I can probably find a picture of the palace more then refernce. Even though ive never seen the palace i know someone from Bhutan on who can send me a picture. Spongie555 (talk) 20:10, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- You can see the draft article in my User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Saptha Badri page. I have used the img provided by you in the Infobox. The text needs to be substantially expanded to qualify for DYK nomination. You can add the other imgs of the palace in the gallery section. -- N.V.V. Char Talk . 09:34, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Hello from Russian WikiProject Bhutan! Unfortunately, I can not help to choose Featured picture in the Russian Wikipedia, because in the Russian Wikipedia does not choose Featured pictures. Featured pictures for the Russian Wikipedia are selected on the Commons:Featured picture candidates. I support you on Commons. --Impro (talk) 06:53, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- oh ok. Well let's see if the picture can make it on commons. Hey maybe Russian WikiProject Bhutan and the English Bhutan WikiProject try working with each other. Spongie555 (talk) 07:25, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- It's good idea. Russian WikiProject Bhutan was created in June 2010. (At this time the English wiki-project has been inactive.) In June and July 2010 in the Russian wiki was created 359 articles about Bhutan. Some articles were translated from the English Wikipedia, a part of them has been supplemented and were created some new articles. We saw that in the English Wikipedia is often given the wrong coordinates of the Bhutanese villages and other facilities. Some articles are not authoritative sources. (For example, Dorji Namgyal.) Pay attention to this article. I think the first paragraph tells about one person, and the second paragraph - about the other person. In addition, for each of these people have another article in the English Wikipedia. --Impro (talk) 09:12, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:Dechencholing Palace.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Dechencholing Palace.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. J Milburn (talk) 12:50, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

VPC closures
editHi Spongie555! Actually everybody can close VPCs and you are more than welcome to help out. Simply follow the steps as explained at WP:VPC#Closing procedure. Current rules require consensus support with a minimum quorum of 4 for promotion. Consensus generally has been interpreted as a 2/3 majority, but in case of disputes, it is up to the judgement of the closer to determine, based on the merits of the arguments presented and the criteria. As an unwritten rule, each candidate is closed by an editor which was not involved in the voting, so that the closer's neutrality cannot be disputed, however where there are no disputes this is less important. Candidates can be closed after one week, but often is worthwhile waiting a bit longer to establish clear consensus (for instance when a candidate already has three support votes). Wish you happy editing. --Elekhh (talk) 03:30, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- You shouldn't be afraid of closing VPCs as not promoted. Actually is much easier and quicker than promotions. There is a huge queue there and it doesn't look good at all. Any VPC which has been sitting there since more than a week can be closed, and if it has less than 4 support in a month than there is nothing to worry about closing it as not promoted. Images can also be renominated at a later stage when there is more activity. --Elekhh (talk) 03:17, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

- As much as I would like to see this promoted, I think you need to talk to some other picture veterans about closing it.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:00, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

I agree. Spongie I don't think you know how much is required and how much patience is needed for FAs. The reviewers during the FAC are extremely demanding and identify the tiniest of errors and most of it seems very trivial in comparison to the major work needing doing all over the project. Nvvchar is right. more effort should be going into expanded stubs and promoting to GA and start decent new content. Dr. Blofeld 13:13, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

editWowm you've got a habit of picking difficult articles! An FA by October 2011?Best of luck! The article is in a terrible state at the moment. Its in what I'd term a "Philippine class" state. SImilar to articles on places in the philippinrd it has long lists and little comprehensive text/mostly unreferenced. What I suggest is that you make a User:Spongie555/sandbox and first of all find as many reliable sources as you can to use to write it. Dr. Blofeld 08:47, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
I've cleared the article to set it on its way. It needs an enormous amount of work to even get it to GA level let alone FA. I hope you are up for a challenge. If you can find plentiful sources to write it/get books from the local library etc I'll edit it occasionally and help direct you. I gather this is your home town? Re: 1858 San Diego hurricane
editActually, I don't think I can help with that article. I honestly don't think the article should exist. Don't get me wrong, the storm probably happened, and it's pretty notable, but all (seriously, all) of the references of the storm stem from the same source (the Chris Landsea document), which is problematic. It's the same reason we don't have an article anymore on the 1842 Spain hurricane, since its existence was merely gleaned from a bunch of different primary sources (but the fact it was a tropical cyclone only from one source). If the article were built up much more, it would merely be a rehash of the Landsea article. Adding any other data (such as statistics, mentioning of other storms, etc) wouldn't be directly related to the storm. I honestly think it should be merged with, say, List of California hurricanes, or List of Pacific hurricanes before 1900. Hurricanehink (talk) 19:14, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

RE: Question
editBefore answering, how did you find me... I'm just wondering..
- The Communist Party USA has denounced North Korea many times, especially in the later years after the collapse of the communist bloc in Europe. However, before the collapse most communist countries allied themselves with the USSR and its allies. The crimes the North Korea have committed were not known at the time, because most the western media centered itself around the USSR and Communist China. But back to your question, no they don't support North Korea, at least not officially. They do however support Cuba officially. It this a good enough answer to your question? --TIAYN (talk) 14:29, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Just stumbled upon this article in WP:GAN, but I can't review it as I know some major contributors to the article too well to neutrally judge it against Wikipedia:Good article criteria. However, I would like to point to you that the article currently fails criterion 3b:"it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail" and needs a complete rewrite. Especially sections "Districts of Thimphu", "Architecture", "Culture". The presence of "Motithang Takin Preserve" in Architecture and "Health care" in "Law and order" is absurd. You asked for help with the Chula Vista article. I'll be glad to take a look at it and make any improvements that seem useful, but I have to tell you I don't know anything at all about Featured Articles and Good Articles and what it takes to be one. Maybe after I get past a major time commitment I have this week, I'll try to learn a little. What are some of the things this article still needs, in order to be judged worthy of GA or FA status? --MelanieN (talk) 03:49, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- I see what you mean. There's an awful lot of "citation needed" tags in the history section, and the Geography, Education, and Culture sections could definitely use some help. I'll see about doing some cleanup next week when I have more time. --MelanieN (talk) 03:59, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- It might be easier to write a book about Chula Vista than it would be to edit this article to FA without 3rd party references. Ameriquedialectics 00:12, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
VPC Chicago Michigan Avenue 1911 (2nd nomination)
editHi Spongie555, when things are not perfectly clear one can ask for clarification from those who made unclear statements. When closing such tight contest is good to explain the assumption on which the closure was based, so that if any of the assumptions was wrong it can be detected afterwards. My reading is that everybody is in favour of the image, with two preferences for the original version (Tony and me), one for the alternative (yourself), and two neutral. This gives a slight advantage for the original, however strenghtened by the fact that it was the preference of the nominator, which makes it a clear promote of the original for me, if my reading is correct. PS. Would be good if you would start archiving your talk page as it starts to get heavy and slow. --Elekhh (talk) 04:13, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hmmm I'm a bit confused now about your question. It is one image with two versions, five supports according to my count, slight preference (2 vs 1) for the original. PS. I understand the talk page works for you, but might not be advantageous for those visiting your talk page. --Elekhh (talk) 04:26, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

editThank you very much for acknowledging my effort in those Brazilian-history related articles. However, editor Astynax deserves as much credt as I do. Re-writing the article on Pedro I is something that has been going around my mind since ever. However, I'm having an issue with another article I nominated (Pedro Álvares Cabral) which is leading me to a frustrating brawl. And that is taking away my interest on continue working on Wikipedia. Discussion on naming style for San Diego neighborhoods
editHello, Spongie555! I see that you are a participant in WikiProject:San Diego. There is a discussion currently going on which might be of interest to you. It concerns the naming style for neighborhoods of the city of San Diego. Currently most San Diego neighborhoods are named in the pattern Point Loma, San Diego, California. Pretender
editThe answer is very simple: Luís of Orléans-Braganza. Unfortunately Wikipedia has several awful mistakes on Brazilian royals. Among them, the ridiculous suposedly pretension to the French throne. Gaston of Orléans, the Count of Eu, not only renounced his French citizenship, but also his position as a Frenhc Prince and became a Brazilian citizen and royal. But since I have no interest at all on anything related to after-1889 Brazlian-monarchy related history (that is, Brazilian "monarchism"), I never bothered to fix that. Anytime you might want to exchange thoughts, feel free to do so! Regards, --Lecen (talk) 10:43, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, he was an Emperor, although never counted as such. I explain. When Brazil became independent, the Holy Alliance ruled the world. The Hispanic American republics had been independent for more than a decade and no country in Europe recognized them as such, which prevented them of making trade deals, for example. That ended up destroying their economies, and the countries went into chaos, with civil wars, rebellions, coups, dictatorships, etc... All that you know already. João VI wanted to prevent that. He had to make sure that in the eyes of the European powers, the new South American monarchy had legitimate roots. So when Portugal recognized the independence of Brazil, João VI aknowledged the Brazilian throne as an off-shoot of the Portuguese throne, that is, a branch. Separated, but a branch. To do that, Brazil recognized João VI as an Emperor who ceded his sovereignity to his own son. Both were co-emperors for a short period, from 1825 to 1826, when João VI died. Since the peace treaty was deplored in Brazil, that was never taken for serious. Nonetheless, it helped Brazil establish ties with the European nations. --Lecen (talk) 03:31, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- Taunay was the son of a French teacher of Pedro II. He fought in the War of the Triple Alliance nad ws part of a very famous and disastrous military operations called "Withdrawn of Laguna", of which a book he later wrote about and that became a classic. He did not pursue a military or politic carrier for long after that, intead he focused on his literary career, of which made him one of the most famous writers in Brazilian history. Thus, he was neither a great politician and even less a statesman. The category "statesmen" in the template (notice that it is not "politicians") is reserved for figures considered "statesmen" by historians, not simply famous, renowned, influential or great politicians. That is why politicians who were very powerful and influential in their lifetime (such as former regent and prime minister Marquis of Olinda or the Viscount of Itaboraí, one of the main leader of the Conservative Party) but not regarded as "statesmen" are not in the list. The idea of the template is to allow the reader to easily read vital articles that will make him/she understand the Imperial era. And it is. Regards, --Lecen (talk) 08:34, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

- I'm still doubtful about how much credence this article should give the North Korean government's claims. If the question posed to them was "Was the team subjected to a six-hour public humiliation?" then answering "The team is currently practicing for the Asian Games" does not disprove the claim of the six-hour public humiliation. And if the question was "Was the team manager Kim Jong-Hun fired and forced to join a construction crew?" then answering that "The team is currently practicing for the Asian Games" doesn't explain what happened to the former manager, given that he has in fact been replaced. I'm not even convinced that the North Korean government has denied that the team was subjected to a six-hour public humiliation, much less that such an event didn't take place. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 05:37, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

editThanks for the suggestion about Camp Minnewawa. I never heard of it but it sounds interesting. Turns out the San Diego area was just full of now-closed military bases. I did the article about Camp Kearny and I have it on my list to do one about Camp Elliott - also Camp Matthews at the site of what is now UCSD. I'll add Camp Minnewawa to the list. I don't suppose that photo is in the public domain, is it? --MelanieN (talk) 05:57, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

- BTW reading the caption about Camp Minnewawa, I see that it was not an Army camp; it was a CCC camp. That would make for different searching and (possibly) less notability. Again, I'll take a closer look later.
- About notability, I was just thinking that army/navy/marine installations tended to get a lot more publicity and leave more of an imprint. But a CCC camp was a big deal too so we should be able to find something about it. I'll try, anyhow. --MelanieN (talk) 04:15, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- Interesting! That's a great link about Camp Otay/Camp Weber. Definitely needs an article. I notice the article refers to a Camp La Mesa, of which Camp Otay was a sub-post; does that also need an article? I'm sorry I can't do anything about these articles for the next couple of weeks, but I will definitely put them on my to-do list for when I get some time. --MelanieN (talk) 16:16, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- I wonder if we might do some kind of combined article about the CCC camps in San Diego County? There were a lot of them, and while they might not all have been notable individually, as a group they might be. Some are gone without a trace, and some (like Pine Valley) were converted to other uses. Do you have any idea how other areas have dealt with their CCC camps on Wikipedia? --MelanieN (talk) 16:29, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

RE: Dickinson
editI don't think I'm going to be able to help you unless you find some decent referenced. The two you have only mention him in passing, and don't really assert much notability, much less the basics of a biography. Also note that being called a "colonel" in the nineteenth century doesn't necessarily denote a military rank; it wasn't uncommon for an officer in a local militia or paramilitary police force to give themselves lofty titles like that. Unless you can readily establish an Army or Marine commission, it's not likely that any potential article could be established as a military biography. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 17:08, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Re: California 125
editHi, thanks for noticing my work. However, after working on California State Route 186, I'm not totally interested in working on another California highway. However, I can suggest talking to User:Rschen7754, the US Roads Project's California mastermind about how to get help giving it a shot or seeing if he wants to do it for you. If not, you can go to the U.S. Roads Project talk page for some assistance. Someone's sure to help you there. Thanks for the offer though!Mitch32(Transportation Historian) 04:25, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Bacon WikiCup
editWell thank you for the note! And sure, I'll join the wikicup, though I appear to have shot into 3rd place with just the ice cream article... Perhaps I've miscounted. Worm 09:20, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
