AfroCine categories missing in Nigerian language WPs

edit

Greetings, Handsome - I'm hoping you're the right one to notify. I found your User name on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject AfroCine/Coordinators list. In Wikidata, for the item Category:Cinema of Nigeria - of the twenty existing language projects (WPs), missing are Yoruba and Igbo, not to mention other African languages. The Yoruba WP page yo:Nollywood hasn't any category. I do "housekeeping" edits in four African-language WPs (ZU, XH, YO, IG, over 6K altogether, and over 9K edits in Wikidata) but need help with spelling. YoWp has only one admin and some new pages are being created on films - so I thought to ask if you'd kindly take action on behalf of AfroCine. Appreciate this! -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 18:51, 15 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

DeborahjayThanks for your interest in trying to ensure language diversity within Wikimedia projects. Aside being a coordinator for WikiProject Nigeria, I am also one of the regional directors for Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. Last week, I raised this content gap within my local community to see if we had volunteers who are fluent in writing Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba and are willing to translate cinematic content; Fortunately for us, there were numerous volunteers who were willing to partake in the project. But we had one other challenge, they are not very familiar with Wikitext and formatting tables, so I prefer to be there when its being done, even though they wanted to start immediately. I told them to exercise patience since they are all presently based in a different state from me. I wanted it to be part of our meetup activities for the month of October, which will be holding by 23rd and 24th of this month. If no one does it before then, all three Nigerian languages will be done during our October meetup at University of Ibadan. I'm now based in Lagos but coordinate activities for Ibadan community as that's my alma-mater.HandsomeBoy (talk) 21:10, 15 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello there!

edit

Hello bro! And thanks for the invite. Can you add me cos I am new to Wikipedia and don’t know my way around very much :) May be that’s why I have fallen into trouble with so many ppl on here. LOL Cheers Ppdallo (talk) 15:46, 10 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Its great to hear from you Ppdallo, let me formally welcome you to Wikipedia. I hope you find this place friendly and decide to stay here. We need more Nierian editors on Wikipedia, and since you are interested in Hausa articles, I'm guessing you can speak the language as well. Joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Nigeria is quite easy, what you need to do is to click here, then click edit on the "participant" section that you will be led to; after that edit the list, and add your account by using the four tiles that you used to sign your posts. If you have questions, please feel free to ask me. I'll be very very glad to assist, that is why I'm here.
On the toxic nature of your first experience, the thing is anyone can edit Wikipedia, so regular editors who ensure the encyclopaedia is free from vandalism might seem unfriendly but I can assure you that once you understand the rudiments of editing, you'll enjoy the friendliness among editors in the community. I don't want you to see it as "trouble", its more of the learning curve that most new editors go through. I'm glad you're still jovial about it, a good sense of humour and not taking unfriendly experiences such as this too seriously might come in handy. Above all, remember to ask me anything you aren't too sure about. HandsomeBoy (talk) 20:54, 10 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your soothing and encouraging words HandsomeBoy and I am glad having someone like you to hold my hand during my tottering steps through Wikipedia. I believe in free, genuine information and its copious availability to all. Yes I speak the Hausa language very well and hope I will be of use in that and many other regards. Thanks once again! Ppdallo (talk) 06:09, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad I have been able to be of help. Happy editing. HandsomeBoy (talk) 20:51, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

AfroCine: The Months of African Cinema Continues….

edit

Greetings!

Thank you very much for signing up to participate in the Months of African Cinema global contest/edit-a-thon, and thank you for your contributions so far.

It is already the middle of the contest and a lot have been achieved already! We have been able to get over 200 articles created in over seven (7) languages! The figures soars to up to a thousand, if Wikidata entries are included. Furthermore, there have been about 5 in-person gatherings of Wikipedians in different countries across the world to create articles about African(a) cinema!

We are very excited about what has been achieved so far, but your contributions are still needed to further exceed all expectations! Let’s create more articles before the end of this contest, which is this November!!!

  • Article suggestions can be found here. You can also add to this list.
  • Some notable reliable sources for African cinema can be found here. Again, this list needs expansion.
  • Interested in Wikidata translation? check out the Occupation Drive, which is being led by Wiki Loves Women, in support of the contest and the project!
  • Please remember to list articles you have created or improved in the Article Achievements section of the contest page, so that they can be easily tracked.

Thank you once again for being part of this global event!

Kind regards.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 22:50, 10 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. • @Dl2000: I corrected an error in the article. The winner of next rated category as documented in reliable sources is Sean Tizzle, not Burna Boy. The edit summary error was meant for the error in the article, not the aftermath of my edit. Due to prolonged and slow internet issues, I copied the Wikitext so as to click paste and publish the moment some connection is established. I was supposed to be editing a section. Please in case of next time, I prefer normal text reply, than automated ones. Thanks. HandsomeBoy (talk) 01:04, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • OK, so an unintended WP:BATHWATER edit. The table should now read Sean Tizzle as category winner. If you continue to have a bad web connection, it may be useful to do an extra preview of the article after an edit to make sure there is no unintended damage to infoboxes, categories, etc. Dl2000 (talk) 02:06, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Conflicting reports

edit

Hi HandsomeBoy and compliments of the season. As an experienced editor, I was wondering if you have an idea of what one can do when multiple reliable sources report different things about an essential part of a subject life. Say the Punch reports that he died in Abuja, Guardian says he died in US and other sources say either of the two. With warm regards, Mahveotm (talk) 17:02, 13 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Mahveotm: Thanks for reaching out. This is a critical one. Sourcing is central to information on Wikipedia, and anything that involves it is usually quite sensitive. Personally, I need more context to be able to provide an appropriate answer. There are some situations that I'll state what source A said, and what source B said the way it was made. In some other situations, I'll ignore one source, and lean towards another. In some other cases, I'll even remove the entire information from Wikipedia and disregard both sources. So for me, I think it depends.
A combination of issues emanating from convenience, subscription and computing concerns are responsible for my late reply. Apologies for that. HandsomeBoy (talk) 21:57, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for just getting back. real life got some toll on me too!. I do hope you're doing well. As regards the subject of discussion, the article is Chukwudifu Oputa which I created - I think last week. I eventually removed the place of death from the article entirely. Funny thing is another source reported that he died in US or so. Others were having difficulties subtracting date of death from date of birth to determine age (go through some of the refs, you'd see what I'm talking about)😂😂!! Away from Wiki, I trust you're great!! Mahveotm (talk) 01:44, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Mahveotm: Surprised there wasn't an article for him before now. At least, I should expect all chief justice of supreme courts to have a Wikipedia article almost immediately they are sworn in, not to talk of one that was there in the 80s, and also played a key role in investigating human right abuse during the military era. So back to your observation, I'm even more concerned that most of the reliable sources claim he was 96 when he died, despite getting his birth year correctly, I wonder if this is case of not being able to perform basic arithmetic operation, lazy journalism (considering the replication) or mere oversight on the path of the publishers and editors 1, 2, 3. Whichever way, its a reflection of the poor standard of journalism. As for his place of death, I'll lean to Abuja, the sources I could find even went into detail on how the building he died and how he just returned from the US. Good job creating the article! Covenant University

edit

Hi there, thanks for getting in touch about my tag on Covenant University. My issue was that there sometimes seems to be a gap between what the sources say and the wording used in the article.

  • For instance, the article says Covenant is the "highest ranked Nigerian university in the world universities ranking of the Times Higher Education". The source says "Covenant University is one of the leading universities in Africa ... The Nigerian Universities Commission named it the best private university in Nigeria in its 2018 rankings and the 6th best university overall". Those aren't the same things.
  • Another example: the article says "Techcabal rated Covenant University as having the best software developers in Nigeria". The source actually says that Covenant is one of the universities mentioned as having the largest number of ex-students working in coding. It specifically does not mention it as the best: "that’s not what this list is about", and although Covenant is listed first, the list is "in no particular order".
  • And one more: article says "It was the most sought-after private school in 2014" and gives two sources. Both list all universities with their application numbers. There are a number of universities listed with higher application numbers. It may well be that Covenant has the highest applications for private universities, but the source doesn't say that or indicate which universities are private, and working it out from the list is straying into original research.

I was also a bit troubled by the paragraph about the pro-chancellor: "qualitative pursuit of her vision and mission" sounds weaselly to me, and is not sourced. And the word "feat" is not neutral.

I also noticed that the article correctly says that Covenant won the Nigerian section of the CFA Institute Research challenge, but does not say where it came in the global finals - whcih suggested to me that the article was less than neutral.

Finally, I wondered whether the "Recent Developments" section gives undue weight to the various rankings and praise for the university, in comparison to the info about the courses, which is minimal, and the sentence at the end about lawsuits and criticism. I'm sure it's not your and other editors' intention but the length of the Recent Developments compared to the rest of the article does make it feel promotional.

Feel free to remove the tag, and thanks for your work on the article and elsewhere in Wikipedia. Tacyarg (talk) 17:43, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the well-thought and properly communicated reply. I'll work on each of your suggestions and get back to you. I'm more concerned about the article being very encyclopaedic than removing the tag.HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:43, 26 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

These edit-a-thons are a great way to work with others to help bridge the gender gaps on Wikipedia. Thanks for your contributions!

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

edit

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of Africa Movie Academy Awards ceremonies, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Michael Matthews (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Veteran Nollywood Icons

edit

Hey, it’s been a minute & It’s good to you holding your own excellently. Please assist me here, there are very few editors who are as interested in in the nollywood industry as you & I, so I was thinking yeah. Could you please suggest to me certain veteran nollywood stars who are yet to have an article included in the encyclopedia maybe one or two so I could create articles for them. I keep trying to remember their names but for the life of me I can’t. Their faces I know in my mind but their names clearly have eluded my memory. Cheers Celestina007 (talk) 08:56, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

So glad to see you active again Celestina007. You are one of the few female volunteers in WP:WikiProject Nigeria who are sincerely passionate towards the improvement of Wikipedia and I appreciate you for that. Even when we had our differences, I always knew you had good intentions. Speaking about our WikiProject, I have a lot of ideas in my head concerning how we can take it to the next level, especially on retaining consistent and knowledgeable editors, but I just need to properly structure and situate it before posting a release for review and implementation.
Back to the request, I am glad to know that you have friends who are interested in being Wikipedians and contribute to cinema-related contents. Please if they need on-wiki assistance, please let them feel free to reach me. I will be glad to put them through the editing process. Considering your ethnic background, I think you will have little interest in Yoruba veterans, so I will limit my recommendations to the ones from the east. What comes to my head at this moment are: Rita Nzelu, Susan Patrick (was the "snakegirl" in Sakobi), Gloria Young, Steph Nora Okereke, Becky Ngozi Okorie (Karachika), Rita Edochie, Ndidi Obi, etc. Some of them may not clearly pass GNG, due to the fact that they starred in films that was produced in the 1990s, but due to the significance of their roles to the development of Nollywood I believe they pass WP:ACTOR easily. When I remember more, I will inform you. Once again, thank you for your dedication. HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:45, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
I’m sure any idea you think of or currently thinking of would be perfect. Thanks for the names i’d start with Rita Nzelu. It’s a shame veteran actors aren’t given the recognition they deserve. Celestina007 (talk) 18:03, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Celestina007. I'll also join you to improve the article when it hits mainspace. Also, Grace Amah comes to mind...HandsomeBoy (talk) 22:33, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello HandsomeBoy, warm greetings to you and complements of the season. I have been following you most recently after I stumbled upon you on a related article I contributed to and ever since, I quite very often notice your name pop up most times while contributing to Nollywood notable names and veterans included. I joined Wikipedia back in 2015, even though not very active, but averagely up until my account was blocked for reasons clearly stated which I learnt my lessons and moved on whilst ensuring all instructions are strictly adhered moving on. This is where I stumbled upon the quiet, decisive and supportive Celestina007 whom I have been meaning to talk to on her page like this, for like forever now, but here we are. I see you dear Labutnum, I appreciate you and admire you greatly and immensely for all you do here and elsewhere on wikipedia. I appreciate you. The very two Wikipedians I admire in one place. How hearth warming this is for me. Summarily, I love Nigerian cinema-related content and its practitioners a whole lot and will like to be here for good, abiding by all rules and will also love to be both of your friends. Warmest regards to you both. Love, Don VN (talk) 07:22, 30 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Don VN: Awwwwn. Thank you for the nice words, really appreciate. But hope admins will not have an issue with creating a new account? Is that allowed? Don't you think you should request to get unblocked in your original account? HandsomeBoy (talk) 11:02, 30 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I will be most delighted to have the account back though its be quite a very very long time ago and if only I can still have access and remember the login details. I will be most delighted. I will keep you posted on this once am able to so you could assist with the procedure for unblock request which seemed much of a task at that time. Best wishes always, Don VN (talk) 11:42, 30 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hello HandsomeBoy, longest time no hear. I have been through thick and thin the past months but, am glad am finally bnack again at this. GREETINGS

edit

Hi' am @f5pillar. New boy here and in Wikipedia:WikiProject Nigeria I created this article Umaru Sanda Ndayako, pls check if it's OK

Greetings @F5pillar:, its great to hear from you. I'm always excited when I interact with an editor interested in improving Nigerian contents on Wikipedia. There is this sense of dejavu I feel about my early days here, and the need for proper induction. going through the article, I think its a great start. Subject is definitely notable. However, a few redlinks should be blue, and some formatting needs to be done to conform to the manual of style. Overall, its a good start! Just to mention that I did a little formatting on your post to aid readability. HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:23, 5 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Davido

edit

Hi HandsomeBoy,
Can you please take a look at the Davido article and tell me what you think. I have expanded it quite drastically and will be nominating it for GA pretty soon. I also plan on submitting it for copyediting. I remember we both were going to work on bringing it to GA.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 00:32, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Whoa!! Wonderful end of the year wiki inspiration. I'm going through it now, I'll update my reply soon.HandsomeBoy (talk) 06:22, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
"...generated worldwide social media activity", not too sure about that. Maybe in Nigeria or Africa. HandsomeBoy (talk) 06:58, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
That particular statement was taken directly from a Pulse Nigeria source. I'm not sure what the author meant by it, but maybe reading the article might help put things into perspective.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 02:59, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I didn't even open the source. Maybe if at least two other sources use similar adjectives then it can stay. But reading through the article lead, that phrase caught my attention. Please give me till weekend to go through all the sub-sections.HandsomeBoy (talk) 12:07, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
"... It received generally negative reviews..." should be changed to "... It generally received negative reviews..."HandsomeBoy (talk) 13:58, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
I have read through the entire article, and its looking good. Davido's NYSC saga, political views and some other controversies came to mind, but I think its best they are excluded for now. I think it will pass GA. Good job. HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:56, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for reading it. I submitted it to GOCE for a thorough review. Once that's done, I will submit it for a GA review. I believe putting the term "generally" before negative reviews is correct.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 20:04, 22 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

BetKing

edit

Hey, hi checkout this page BetKing, I create and you can help me do some check up for some errors 00:15, 25 December 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by F5pillar (talkcontribs)

@F5pillar: when it comes to for-profit organizations, the criteria N:CORPDEPTH is quite stringent. I saw you implied that since Bet9ja is notable, BetKing should be too. I just want to say that references aside, Bet9ja are the biggest online gambling site in Nigeria, both in terms of revenue, popularity and registered users. I have a friend who manages one of their account, and I'm aware they have more than 4 billion naira as capital. Note that this is just one of their accounts as they have many. Also, Betking are quite new in the industry. Also note that WP:OTHERSTUFFEXIST probably applies here.HandsomeBoy (talk) 22:52, 26 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Requests for uncreated articles

edit

Greetings & a great weekend to you all. I believe it would be great if the (Requests for uncreated articles) section in our wiki project can be attended to & at least one article be created this weekend as some requests have been pending since 2016. I believe this would be pivotal to the encyclopedia as a whole & a means to get editors who have gone inactive to revive their Wikipedia activities. Sent by Celestina007. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:26, 25 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Celestina007: Thank you so much for this thoughtful broadcast. I have been highly impressed with your improved expertise this past few months. Personally, I will begin work on the new articles list immediately. I always feel like we don't have enough experienced active editors to fully launch completely on-wiki editing projects, but notwithstanding that doesn't mean the article creation count should remain stagnant. I have simply prioritized training/encouragement over individual editing. Once again, thank you for this post. HandsomeBoy (talk) 20:13, 25 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Oh my! thanks for the kind words. Honestly speaking, the rate at which honest Nigerian experienced editors are going inactive is very worrisome coupled with the rate at which Nigerian paid editors are multiplying is very disturbing but nonetheless I see some potential in some of our new editors. Oh well, that aside I have gone head to create the Beverly Osu article & I hope other editors go ahead to devote time in creating other pending articles listed there.Celestina007 (talk) 20:28, 25 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Celestina007: I agree with everything you've said. Which is why in every of my training, I always make that point very clear to all the participants so that they can know what it takes to be a Wikipedian and not waste their time if they don't buy into the vision. Thanks for creating an article for Beverly, surprised she didn't have an article already. I too have just created one for Mohammed Balarabe Haladu :) I also removed the clearly non-notable entries from the list. HandsomeBoy (talk) 21:29, 25 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Nice one! I had earlier observed that some entries made there weren’t on notable persons thanks for removing them. Also thanks for creating the Mohammed Balarabe Haladu article.Celestina007 (talk) 21:44, 25 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Royalty infobox in Efunsetan Aniwura

edit

Hi HandsomeBoy. You used the royalty infobox for the article Efunsetan Aniwura and subsequently the category "roylaty" has been added. It has now been translated into Portuguese and the author has added the royalty "category". Yet, nothing in the text indicates that she is royal and from what I have read, an Iyalode is not a royal. So my question is whether you merely used the infobox as a suitable one in which to include the details. Looking forward to your reply, regards, Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 00:57, 5 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the observation Rui Gabriel Correia. @Eruditescholar: can you please shed more light on the position of the "Iyalode" in traditional Yoruba communities?HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:20, 5 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Subject with multiple articles

edit

Hi H, how do you think this and this should be sorted. Mahveotm (talk)

@Mahveotm: Both articles need to be merge into a single page. If you need me to help with the merger, I can. I meant to ask you, is everything okay? I noticed you blanked your userpage and talk page and never responded to the message I left for you at Talk:Eni Balogun before said article was deleted.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 16:03, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Versace1608:, please do go ahead, would love to see how that works. Re the talk page message, I'm sorry I didn't get it, what was it about.
Regards, Mahveotm (talk) 20:25, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
yeah just like Versace1608 said I left some jovial messages on Mahveotm’s tp sometime late last year or early this year but never got a response, rather he blanked his entire tp & never bothered to acknowledge nor respond to me i was even going to send him a private mail later in the day to ask if everything was alright or perharps if I have transgressed against him unknowingly as this isn’t Mahveotm’s usual jolly jovial nature & even of recent when we do interact he addresses me in an unpleasant manner but I understand these things do happen & perharps in one way or another I probably have offended him unknowingly.Celestina007 (talk) 16:42, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Celestina007:, the message I got from you was something related to Wikiproject, which I think I responded to. If there was any other one, I'm sorry I missed it.
Warm regards, Mahveotm (talk) 20:25, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Mahveotm: I just completed the merger. Do you think the article should be move to Ndowa Lale? I don't think the subject's middle initial is relevant here. In regards to the comments, I basically wanted to know why you feel Eni Balogun meets our notability requirements.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 15:27, 29 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Versace1608:, thanks for filling that out, appreciated. I really don't have an opinion as regards the move to Ndowa Lale, just wanted to see how a merger works. Re the Eni article, no use discussing it since the article is already deleted.
Warm regards, Mahveotm (talk) 20:33, 29 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
You beat me to it. In deciding where to move it to, I considered three factors. Number one, was the recency in the creation of both articles, two was the appropriateness and depth in the articles. And finally the stance on WP:COMMONNAME on both names. I find Ndowa E.S Lale to be created one day before Ndowa N Lale. I can also see that unlike the latter which had more than 50% of its content in tables, it had more sentences, which is closer to what an encyclopaedia should be. Finally, A google search on both names showed that Ndowa E.S Lale is more used. But I have to agree with Versace that the most appropriate name for the article should be "Ndowa Lale" which had 367 Google news results as against the 3 results from "Ndowa E.S Lale". Hello HandsomeBoy I see you have uploaded the NWFL Premiership logo, I appreciate that but there are still some pages that I need their logos uploaded on Wikipedia like I sent to you via email. Was there any problem regarding that? Josedimaria237 (talk) 16:03, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

I intended to add one of the images so you can follow the same steps for the other pages. The important thing to remember is that they will be added under the fair-use rationale, since you are not the author of the images. If you don't want to attempt to make the addition yourself, just keep me some time. I will add them soon. HandsomeBoy (talk) 23:48, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Ayuko Babu

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ayuko Babu requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. WP:WOSO News: October 2020

Chelsea striker Bethany England scoring the winning goal in the team's 2-1 win against Arsenal at the 2019–20 FA Women's League Cup, February 29, 2020.

Hello WOSO editors!

What a year to be alive. As usual (but perhaps even moreso since there have been unexpected quarantines), there has been a lot of activity on player, team, league and tournament-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of women's football / soccer. Great work!

Fall Focus: FA WSL articles

You may have noticed lots of great things going on for the top English league this year: the FA WSL. More (international!) broadcasts, top international player signings, improved media coverage, and increased viewership. Let's keep the momentum brewing, shall we?

Here's a sampling of articles that could use creation, expansion or updating. What will you commit to working on?

Historical Topics
Managers
Teams
Players
Other

See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Women's football task force/Initiatives/FA WSL to collaborate and organize with other editors.

Every little bit helps! Thanks for your contributions!

Did you know...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in two currently active women's leagues)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues

Afrocine Nigerian contest 2020

Hello HandsomeBoy, please I want to ask if the contest is all about articles creation only or it considers improvement on existing articles as well. If it considers that, I just want to bring to your notice that scoring for article improvement doesn't seems to be accounted for in the jury process. Hello Darreg, This are really dark times, from the Lekki massacre, the ongoing anarchy, the massive looting of government & private owned businesses by thugs who hijacked the End SARS protest & most scary; the impending tribal clash between the Igbo people & the Yoruba people in Lagos state incited by Adeyinka who insists on violence on all Igbo people in Lagos, this are indeed very dark times, Sorry I didn’t check up on you earlier, please do keep safe. Help with Making Nigerian Articles

edit

Good evening Boss. Recently I've made edits concerning Nigerians... And I noticed that Celestina007 is a Nigerian article deleted/opposer. E dey vex me small small say as 9ja pipo we still dey kick each other for Wikipedia, which is a place where we should let the world know about what we got. Vanguard, Punch, Legit.ng cannot cover everything in Nigeria and the other sites in Nigeria isn't considered as "Notable". Recently I made an article Dandy Jackson Chukwudi, it was approved and nominated for deletion. Dandy Jackson Chukwudi is one of the young Abia enterpreneurs which should be known (we have similarity in name. Lol) BUT it's an English Wikipedia... Nevertheless, see if you got take a look at it. Make we help make Naija proud kwanu. I hope you hit me right back. 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐤𝐬𝐉𝐃 O_o ChuksJD (talk) (Contribs) 18:54, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@ChuksJD, I’m not sure why you thought pinging me was necessary, please next time, don’t! The article in question was not even nominated for deletion by me, neither have I even participated in the deletion discussion, well, now that you have notified me about the aforementioned article & it’s nomination for deletion, Give me a second to weigh in with my rationale in deletion discussion. Celestina007 (talk) 20:07, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • @Celestina007: madam no vex jare. I Sha no know say e go vex you. I been just wan tell Baba make e know wetin sup. If you’ve any grudges/stuffs against me, let it slide. Promise not to cross your part if that’s what you want. 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐤𝐬𝐉𝐃 O_o ChuksJD (talk) (Contribs) 20:10, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
ChuksJD, I don’t mean to sound rude or abrasive but I only converse in Nigerian English with Nigerian editors who I trust & /or are my friends, you don’t meet any of the criterions as of now so please stick to American English for now so other editors can understand our conversation. The article in question is an autobiography & the fact that you denying the obvious is doubling down & is hurting your reputation. I have no grudges against you, in-fact, the person you just reported me to, who is now a good friend of mine, nominated a couple of my articles for deletion when I begun editing 4 years ago, he didn’t have any grudges against me, but was only weeding out what he thought was non-notable, it’s nothing personal. Please Read WP:AUTO & WP:COI. Furthermore you may need to read fundamentals of establishing notability like WP:BASIC, WP:GNG, WP:ANYBIO or in summary just read the golden rule. I have weighed in the deletion discussion. Celestina007 (talk) 20:30, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@ChuksJD, please i did not remove your name from anywhere. What are you saying? Celestina007 (talk) 21:00, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Celestina007:, I didn't say you did anything... I said: "IF" (that's English). I can't find my name on the list that why I asked if you were the one who removed my name. Nevertheless, I careless among fellow Nigerians here, so no need to add my name back. I hope you understand the "English" I used. 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐤𝐬𝐉𝐃 O_o ChuksJD (talk) (Contribs) 21:12, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@ChuksJD, I see you’ve got jokes & your sarcasm is duly noted.
Why in Hells name would you not perform due diligence & investigate properly as to who removed your name from said list before presuming that it was I who did such? I mean why on earth would I leave my more relevant duties & focus on trifling vapid actions as such? Finally I’ve told you not to ping me, but you have done so twice after I’ve categorically told you not to and that right there is an imperative example of failing to understand basic English, Cheers. Celestina007 (talk) 21:28, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Celestina007 As an English scholar, you should have understood what I meant by "IF"... pinging you was just to let you about the "IF". Im sorry for pinging you though. Really sorry about that. And IF you also understood English (as you claim) you would have known that asking you was also part of my investigations (questions are part of investigations from the best of my knowledge) so... once again, F9 on "Basic English" 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐤𝐬𝐉𝐃 O_o ChuksJD (talk) (Contribs) 21:39, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Isn’t This The Weirdest Problem?

edit

It suddenly hit me to create a standalone article for Olumba Olumba the self proclaimed “God” but during a prerequisite research on the individual before article creation, I had a great epiphany as I observed both father & son bore the exact same name. There was no Sr or Jr to differentiate the father from the son as both were referred to as Olumba Olumba, I’m in a fix now, I intend to create an article on the son (the light skinned, tall and big Olumba Olumba) and not his father(the dark skinned, short and petit Olumba Olumba) & do not even know how to go about that now, reliable sources do not even differentiate one from the other(some do though, by calling the son “Rowland” but per COMMONNAME, his name should be Olumba Olumba) this sort of wahala is why i presume as notable as they are, they don’t have biographical articles on them. Our predecessors, probably faced this challenge and decided it probably wasn’t worth the stress, & the closest thing to articles on them is an article on their spiritual movement named Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, where two sections in the article have a biography for father & son, do you think it is best as it currently is? keeping in mind that both qualify for standalones? Padi mi wetin you reason? because, on God “this kind thing I never see o” yup! In Wizkid’s voice. Celestina007 (talk) 19:49, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Celestina007: You really crack me up with those ending lines. I really love your choice of articles. You have a way of adding content in areas that are important, yet most Nigerians won't think of them. I literally had to get a dictionary to know the meaning of some of the words you use, you write so well now, compared to when you first came on Wikipedia :). If I were to create this article, I will make the topic about the name Olumba Olumba Obu, rather than it being explicitly for either the father or the son since I found a source that states that they have same name1. Nonetheless, I will create sections for both the father and the son. This will also aid continuity, in that after the demise of the son, the next leader of the sect may also have same name, so it can be divided into something like first generation, second generation, etc. (or something similar) This is if your reason for wanting to write only about the son isn't a strong one. May I ask why you are only interested in writing an article for only son? For the non-BLP, I would normally start along this lines - Olumba Olumba Owu is a name that has been used to refer to the leader of "xxxxxxx".... OR Olumba Olumba Owu is a name that originally referred to the founder of xxxxx, it is now used by his son and successor.... Then I will have sections with infoboxes for both father and son. This is just what I would do if I were in your shoes, and not really a guideline. To be fair, I am probably as confused as you are in this odd situation (never seen anything like this). But if you want to stick to just the son, then I guess you can disambiguate with their DOB, such as Olumba Olumba Owu (born 19xx). You're doing a nice job on Wikipedia, and I am really pleased to have met someone you on this platform, cheers to many more years of collaborating towards free knowledge. HandsomeBoy (talk) 21:16, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the kind words presido. I’ve been teaching the English language since I was 16-19 as a private home tutor. On my choice of article creations, It’s probably my affinity for the Occult. I can’t say exactly why I want to create an article for the light-skinned Olumba Olumba it’s probably arbitrary though or perhaps because he is the Olumba Olumba I’m accustomed to. The problem is Olumba Olumba Obu isn’t a title but a name, but like you rightfully said it’s slowly becoming a title, so although making it into a title does make sense, at the same time I can’t say why it doesn’t seat well with me. Arggghhh this shit got me fucked up anyway by 8pm or thereabout I’d take a decision and proceed with the article creation. This is by far the most complicated article I’m about to create. Although, I think I know exactly how to create the article now. I’m equally super pleased to have met you also, yourself, Versace1608, Jamie Tubers, & Mahveotm pretty much shaped me into what I’m morphed into. God I was one stubborn 'son' of a bitch back in 2016. Ehen, that reminds me, I’ve been asking you to come watch me play basketball at Ndubisi Kanu park at Alausa but you don turn big man & you no get my time bah? No wahala. lmao Celestina007 (talk) 17:41, 19 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Don't be too hard on yourself, I was even worse. Although mine was not really as a result of being a newbie, but a negative reaction to how certain things were being done on Wikipedia. I am also glad the experience has definitely made me a better person. On the article, whatever you decide, I will surely contribute to it. Have you watched Living in Bondage 2? If you haven't, please do. It is a properly made film that gave an appealing angle to the Occult. What I have noticed about the occult in Nigeria is that the perpetrators are only motivated by their quest for dominion and oppression towards others. This makes it difficult for people to take them seriously in this part of the world. Speaking about Versace, he is likely to return early next year, I think everyone should take a break from Wikipedia occasionally, and can understand why he chooses to. You both combine well in fighting vandalism and combating COI editors. I definitely love to meet my Wikipedia friends, the thing is I work in a corporate environment from Monday till Friday, and on Sundays, I am normally in Church for almost the entire day "covers face". I have only Saturday to do my laundry, ironing, etc. And you know how Lagos traffic can get, but I will really consider this when we take our Christmas break next month. But I am not a big man o, when we meet, you will understand what I am saying. Fun fact: I am completely introverted in real life. HandsomeBoy (talk) 11:07, 20 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Joy Duru

edit

Everipedia allows a wider breadth of images: https://everipedia.org/wiki/lang_en/joy-duru I migrated the article there today, even though it seems likely the article will return to Wikipedia. The EV article might take a little bit for it to show in Google search results.

Do you have any interest in collaborating on or creating a Nigeria initiative similar to the others listed here Current Initiatives. It could potentially be in partnership / cross-listed with WP Nigeria and Women in Red?

Hmlarson (talk) 18:19, 4 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Hmlarson: I am very much interested, we can make this the most comprehensive encyclopaedia on women's football. I also have contacts of some persons in NWFL media department, they may be interested if we can get someone to put them through. I am confident they will like anything that will improve the visibility of NWFL Premiership. We can also use the absurdity of the notability requirement for women's footballer on Wikipedia as a selling point on why Evripedia is a great alternative. But more importantly, I really hope Evripedia will have a continuous gradual growth. I read that a top official resigned to form something similar, that is my fear. I don't want to dedicate so much time into something that may not stand the test of time. I tried to create an account some years back, but was not allowed, probably because it was in a beta stage. I might not be able to immensely contribute immediately, but I certainly do have some time during the course of the year. I am also very used to editing with wikitext/mediawiki I hope transitioning into something else may not be too different. Thank you for your work! HandsomeBoy (talk) 10:32, 5 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I actually misread your comment. Yes, please!! I am interested in starting something on Wikipedia for Nigerian WoSo. Coincidentally, I was speaking to a prominent Nigerian editor about this some weeks ago, and he wanted to link me up with someone in either Kenya or Uganda (can't remember). Please let me know what I need to do. HandsomeBoy (talk) 10:42, 5 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
As a start, I created a new initiative page for Nigeria here: WP:WOSO-NG. Please feel free to modify or create new lists of work on articles needed. If you know of any specific news sites or other sites for NG international caps, can you add them to the Resources section at the bottom? Once we fill this out a little more, we can share with related projects and announce on the WP:WOSO talk page. If you know of NWFL players that do not have a national team cap but have significant news coverage, can you add them to the NWFL players list? We can also add articles that need upgrades here. Hmlarson (talk) 16:31, 5 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I am more than honoured to do this. Actually, I have been gathering sources to update and expand Women's football in Nigeria article, I have posted some of them here. Mary Ologbosere scored at WAFU women's Cup, and plays for Rivers Angels, I believe she passes NFOOTBALL. I will go through the squad list for WAFU to get more players with caps. Annoying as hell

edit

Isn’t it very annoying when you discover certain veteran actors like Chika Anyanwu, Becky Okorie (Karashika) & the lot of other veterans don’t have biographical articles because they are “old school” & from the “old Nollywood” whereas this “New Nollywood” rugrats all have biographical articles? Hurts to see the veterans getting marginalized with the introduction of the so-called “New Nollywood”. Celestina007 (talk) 18:25, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Celestina007: I can't agree less with you. That is why we need to contextualize sources when interpreting GNG. Their only crime is not being active in the internet era, plus the "third world" factor. I remember Karachika, and I know how much it was a big deal in the good old days (mid 90s). I will add them to AfroCine suggestion page, and they would definitely be created latest by AfroCine 2021. Digitization of old newspaper prints is also an effective way of remediating this age-long dilemma.HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:19, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks big man, id be more than delighted to see that happen. Do you remember the sound track of the Karashika movie?? Shit Still scares me till date. It’s just a matter of time, I believe eventually there would be a remake of the movie, I can swear Charles Okpaleke & Ramsey Noah are already planning that as we speak. Lmao Celestina007 (talk) 14:04, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
lol, so true. Karashika...karashika queen of darkness, lucifer...lucifer, queen of demons...Karashika...karashika queen of darkness, lucifer...lucifer, queen of demons......then it continues to a faster pace....That was one epic soundtrack! Speaking about Ramsey and Okpaleke. I have seen LIB and Nneka, and I really enjoyed both, good value for my money. Wanted to see Rattlesnake, but it had stopped showing at the cinema when I was ready. I wonder which actress can play the role of Karashika effectively if there were to be a remake, probably an upcoming actress...call me nostalgic, but I need that scary vibe again.HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:28, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
who would play Karashika ba? I’d put my money on Sharon Ooja or Adesua, Adesua actually looks like Becky Okorie, I literally cant think of anyone else. I haven’t seen Ahanna or Nneka yet I’m afraid of social gatherings so I’d chill till it’s available for download on the internet. Can you imagine the immense fortune Charles & Ramsey are gonna make off the remake of Karashika? This millennium kids would finally have the chance to watch what they have been hearing about + old heads like my set. Boy O boy $$$. Celestina007 (talk) 20:09, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Notability

edit

Hi Handsomeboy, Nice work you’re doing here at Wiki. I just wanted to discuss with you about a comment you made on another talk page “ Big Brother Naija fans don't get that popularity is not notability. Even Erica is not yet notable, until she features in more notable films. HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:29, 30 September 2020 (UTC)”

I find it weird that you don’t think Erica has gained notability meanwhile, Laycon and Prince both have viable pages. Erica even had a more robust portfolio prior to BB Naija.

And if you Check it, Hire a Woman has its own Wiki page and is also streaming on Netflix. In my opinion, that is notable enough.

Also, when you google "Met Film School Alumni" see what pops up.

When you check on Big brother America housemates, even a non-winner like Diane Henry and Erika Landin both have Wiki pages despite only being known for only big brother. I don't get why only Naija's own has to be very stringent.Kemmiiii (talk) 04:29, 25 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Kemmiiii, forum shopping/meeting the other parent wouldn’t help you. This is probably the fourth editor you have met pertaining this Erica Nlewedim issue would you stop already or would you prefer a block from editing here ever again? Celestina007 (talk) 05:32, 25 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I only talked to the editors involved in deleting the page last year. And I only just noted that @Handsomeboy made a passing comment about her. I felt the need to clarify his thoughts with him especially in the light of the fact that he's Nigerian and I Imagine that he's aware of her notability in the last few months. Draft:Dremo

edit

Hi, HandsomeBoy. Trust you are doing great today. I'd like to request that you have a look at my draft at Draft:Dremo and please offer me feedback on it. Warm regards. Mondayudowong (talk) 08:56, 20 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello Mondayudowong, thank you for reaching out. This is my honest opinion, independent of the creator or the reviewer. While The Headies is a notable music award that automatically confers notability to nominated/winning artistes in its main categories, "Rookie of the Year" has the least tendency of its nominees getting significant coverage in reliable sources or passing WP:MUSICBIO, this is because musicians in this category are usually new entrants into the music industry, with no previous professional experience. As for City People music awards, while it does not confer notability like Headies, it does help in assessing notability, especially for winners, so I will say it does seem early for me to comfortably say that he passes the notability criteria, remember that his first album (not EP) was in 2020, so maybe a little more review on his songs or another album will make him pass MUSICBIO. For now, I am on the side of the previous reviewer, I don't think he is ready yet.HandsomeBoy (talk) 19:07, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Celestina007: hahaha....the end justifies the means. Still have 13 games to go. Remember that as at this time last season, Barcelona were on top of La liga, only for Real Madrid to still win the title. Plus, I think you should hold your laugh till after your game against Newcastle this evening. Speaking about languages, I will be highly impressed if you understand Yoruba, or can speak even a little....very very impressed. HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:50, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I didn't have high expectations in the Newcastle game, I am more concerned about where Man U will end up at the end of the season. Expect my notification anytime Liverpool wins, and United loses hahaha. HandsomeBoy (talk) 21:29, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dremo Draft

edit

Hi, HandsomeBoy. Thanks for your honest opinion on my recent draft. It really helped. After reading through, I made extra research on the subject and found extra piece of information that may make him pass MUSICBIO. I have improved the draft by adding his first album (2015) and also information about his concert where he hosted several notable personalities. As baffling as they come

edit

How “Iyke Nathan Uzorma” , you know the guy right? That authored “Occult Grandmaster Now In Christ” has very few mentions on the Internet is something perplexing & nigh-unbelievable for someone who was arguably the most talked about individual in 1993, do you remember the amount of buzz that himself & that book had? I think I blame it on social media or the internet not being available in Nigeria until 1998, whereas the book was published in 1993. I’m not sure how to go about this, google books don’t give much, google scholar doesn’t give much either, google itself doesn’t give much, anyway, I think I’d perform another deep web search tonight & see how that goes. Celestina007 (talk) 20:57, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Celestina007: When I was much younger, I can remember reading a book on a Nigerian man who claimed to be second in command to lucifer before "repenting" to embrace Christianity but I can't remember the name of the person. Maybe it is Iyke, but it is also possible that multiple persons had similar narrations especially when you consider that spiritual conspiracy theories was quite marketable in the mid 90s through early 2000s. I am not saying this didn't happen, just trying to explain why the book I read could be about someone else. Back to digital penetration in Nigeria, it is amazing to know that social media was around in 1998, I thought it came to Nigeria much later than that (like mid 2000s). Good to know you have created the article! We can only do the little we can, hopefully someone with more passion takes over from where we stop.HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:06, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Lmaoo 2IC of Lucifer??? Nahhh that sure as hell ain’t Iyke, mans never claimed that, lol please na beg I Dey beg so, try & remember who did & I’d research extensively on the person then proceed to create an article on that person as that’s a very bold and ambitious statement. There are actually several occultists I know but can’t create articles on because of sourcing, there’s Emmanuel Eni, there’s another Emmanuel Omobajesu(Aka Professor Shankar), there’s even one @Kambai Akau just told me one about “Ameh Oboni” apparently he was a king of Kogi state & a black magician also(I actually enjoyed reading about the guy). That would probably be my next creation. Oh & that reminds me, sorry o Na God save una, say na only 1-0, dem for don beat una like person wey thief onions for Obalende. Celestina007 (talk) 23:24, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
oh shit! it appears the ameh oboni dude already has an article on him. Celestina007 (talk) 02:09, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Celestina007 -- Sorry to come in a little. Greetings! Idakwo Ameh Oboni II is son to the Attah Akpoli Umaru Ameh Oboni I, who was succeeded by Aliyu Obaje in 1956. It was Oboni I that got removed from kingship as a result of jazz by the then Northern Region government. Kambai Akau (talk) 14:31, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Celestina007 I remember Emmanuel Eni, his book gave me goosebumps when I first read it. It was so believable, especially since he mentioned dates, streets, etc. And Liverpool are messing up big time, I love Klopp, but there's only so much we can take. I won't be surprised if he is sacked before our next game. If I remember the 2IC, I'd buzz you. HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:37, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yup! I’d more than happy if you do so. I have a strange affinity for the occult and creating articles on occultists is just a privilege. Oh well, as for una wey no dey walk alone at no.8 you fit switch come our side us wey dey worship the (red) devils, I hear we are accepting new fans who may want to ummm jump ship for ehh obvious reasons. Celestina007 (talk) 21:54, 9 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah....right. For someone like me that loves supernatural fiction, occultic stories are quite interesting and engaging. But on a lighter note, hope you have some form of defense or metaphysical powers, just incase there's a buffer effect in your intrusive research (this is assuming you take it further into actually engaging them, not just writing about them).HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:13, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Feminist Coalition

edit

Are you following the news of the Feminist coalition(femco) embezzlement of the #EndSars funds? I really don’t believe the story is true despite over a dozen professional crypto/digital currency experts say they did so, if its true, then it’s really true what that senator said about Nigerian youths “Those who are waiting to steal(in regards to political corruption) are more than those who are currently stealing” Celestina007 (talk) 18:45, 13 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Celestina007: Honestly, you are the first person I am hearing this one. I agree with you that there is more to the story, I can't also rule out the possibility that the Nigerian government is trying to make Feminist Coalition lose its credibility among Nigerian youths. I remember Pastor Sam Adeyemi praising the movement for their high sense of accountability in spending during the height of the protest, it will be such a disappointment if this is true! HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:17, 15 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, there indeed was a Nigerian government involvement theory, it’s a plausible theory(I’m not sure how though) but if we are being pragmatic, objective and excluding emotional sentiments, it wasn’t the Nigerian government who clandestinely made the withdrawal of $51,000, they did, & that withdrawal was shady for an organization that was built on the “rock” of transparency and accountability if not for the whale move alert, Rx and external bodies notifying Nigerians about the withdrawal, we would have been oblivious of the withdrawal. Their evidence rebutting any financial malpractice only made them look even more guilty as their statements were blatant factual inaccuracies. This is a bitter pill to swallow as all Nigerians benefited from the organizations effort in putting a stop to police brutality in Nigeria. I should also add that in my opinion, & technically speaking, it’s “their money” so the withdrawal although shady isn’t the problem(for me) but why they deemed it fit to lie is what i fail to comprehend. Celestina007 (talk) 20:56, 15 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I agree with everything you said apart from your last statement. It is not their money, people contributed for a course. And that alone should be what the funds must be used for in a transparent and open manner. Anything else is financial misappropriation. I predict another major protest before 2024, this will be a blow to crowd-funding efforts in future protests.HandsomeBoy (talk) 05:48, 20 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I agree with you, i’m not sure there’s a fixed or close ended response to if or not the money is theirs, which is why objectively speaking I can see how they or people may feel it’s theirs. An example every Nigerian or anyone living in Nigeria can relate to would be this; a clergyman announces to his congregation that the church intends to acquire a new fixed asset and has a budget of abc & and proceeds to ask them for anonymous financial donations to achieve the purpose, in the end, the purpose is achieved but then the clergyman discovers an excess of an xyz amount, technically speaking, the clergyman man does have to a certain degree, leeway to optimize the funds as they deem fit & even if they were sanctimonious and wanted to refund the excess, the donations were anonymously made thus making it a mission impossible to do so, that analogy mirrors exactly what happened in this case. of course it is an opinion of a particular school of thought which could be very flawed, unsound and invalid in the philosophical stance of the next person, but yes, as much as it hurts me to say because we all benefited from the Feminist Coalition one way or another, and the most obvious being the police brutality in Nigeria has significantly reduced they indeed erred by performing that shady transaction. I appreciate the fact that your opinion is that they engaged in financial misappropriation(which is also the opinion of most Nigerians) well except for the members of the ehhh, what did Segalink call them??? Ahem, yes, except for the members of the COVEN. I agree with you that there’s going to be another major “protest” which imo is just a cash grab in the guise of “protesting”/“Activism” before 2024, in fact of recent, I’m beginning to doubt the genuineness of this modern day so called activists, there’s literally always an angle, if it isn’t the back door financial rewards, it’s the political positions they may get, if it isn’t that, then it’s the fame(we saw how they all cashed in on their fame to open businesses, start musical careers , rejuvenate musical careers, get verified blue ticks on their Twitter accounts & even attempted to get autobiographical/biographical Wikipedia articles on themselves had we not been vigilant enough to negate their attempts). In any case, despite my gratitude to them for reducing police brutality significantly, I’ve added the information on their Wikipedia article.

Tinubu's Age

edit

So apparently Oluremi Tinubu(Tinubu’s wife) is suddenly older than Tinubu? Lmaooooooo, nahhhh fuck it, in my Next life I’d still choose to live in Nigeria. Impossible things happen here regularly. I’ve laughed so hard I’m literally tearing up, Hahahahaha, Tinubu’s first daughter should be 58-60 and he still claims to be 69? Hahahahaha fuck it g, so basically yeah, Mandem was out here impregnating women at age 9-11??. I love this country. It’s as if Tinubu just got tired of of his current age and just decided to be 69 & made every media outlet declare his new age. But of course we all know it’s because of 2023. Celestina007 (talk) 19:19, 30 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Celestina007:If there is one thing I have learnt from being a Wikipedian, it is not to make my emotions dictate my decisions. I am not a fan of Tinubu, I think he is one of the major problems in Nigeria, but I really want to base my beliefs and positions on evidence rather than naysay. If Tinubu has reduced his age, then at what point did he reduce it, considering that his presidential ambition only started less than a decade ago. He has been on the political scene for quite a while, so it won't be difficult to get his reported age in the 90s and early 2000s. Before starting my research, I did a little digging on the Wikipedia article. As at when it was created in 2005, the reported DOB was 1952, which is the same as what it is now. For Oluremi Tinubu, the DOB was 1960, which will make her 60, not 70 as currently stated in the article. Does that mean it has been altered to make her seem older than her husband? Only time will tell. Even though I don't entirely agree with your stance on the article just yet, I appreciate your sincerity in ensuring that accurate and verifiable information is contained on Wikipedia. HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:15, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Update:I have removed the information that says she is 70, sources online suggest to me that she is 60 (will be celebrating her 61st birthday this year), I know you will take this as a constructive addition to the article. I didn't add 1960 as her birthdate just yet, I wanted to see your reply first, but I have removed the age field entirely for now.HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:25, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I assure you that I’m not emotionally attached to this development, zilch, 0, none at all. If anything, it’s comedic! I mean whilst Nigerians are debating if or not Tinubu is 69 or 79 and Tinubu himself saying he’s “69” Our Vice president just announced that “Tinubu is 64”. The state of confusion amongst the media & the politicians themselves is giving me a good laugh. It would be a waste of energy to be emotionally vested in Nigerian politics because in the end they always control the narrative. Removing the entire age is a good move. Celestina007 (talk) 14:40, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I saw the news of Osinbajo stating his age as "64", that just adds another dimension to the confusion. Most politicians are not sincere with their ages. Fortunately for Tinubu, his announced age is consistent with records as far back as 2006. HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:47, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I might have used the wrong choice of words suggesting ...emotions dictating decisions..., on reflection I think its more about me wanting to slow down, whenever it concerns the personal life of a major political figure, especially when there is an existing public perception on such individual. HandsomeBoy (talk) 15:23, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Nahhhh it’s cool, me wey I just dey burst laugh for office. Celestina007 (talk) 23:21, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
You know when i mentioned above that Im never emotionally vested when it comes to editing in areas related to Nigerian politics because in the end the Nigerian government always wins/controls the narrative? I hadn’t even read this yet. I avoid as much as can be editing political related articles especially on Nigerians. I’d just stick to my editing on occultism and occult related articles. Wahlai I fear Nigerian politicians pass the spirit of Olumba Olumba coming to punish me for writing about him. Lmaooo Celestina007 (talk) 20:38, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hahaha...read that Olumba consecrated more than 1000 Bishops during the Easter celebration. What was surprising for me is to see that the cult recognizes the birth and death of Christ. Speaking about Tinubu age, a renowned journalist, Yinka Odumakin, who is now deceased [was also skeptical about his age [2]. The reason we need to take this seriously is that Odumakin has been in the political space with Tinubu for a long time 1. According to him, Tinubu should be in his 80s. Reports on his first wife (not Oluremi Tinubu) also suggest that she was around 70 when she died in 2018. It is not likely Tinubu will be older than his first wife. From a Wikipedia perspective, I will continue to observe, if more documented proof is available then a mention on the age controversy may be worth it. But for now, only his critics have been speaking. We need more independent documentation! HandsomeBoy (talk) 10:15, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
I feel terrible about Odumakin's death, he was one of the very few Nigerians who unequivocally spoke the truth and was very much pragmatic about the degradation of our nation. He was an exponent of the Yoruba's and advocated for the Yoruba race diligently. Omo eko ni mi, & Èkó ò ní bàjé(not now, not ever). In any case, me I no even send anybody mama about Tinubu's age again if Jagaban wants let him claim he’s 16 next year and tell our notable media houses to publish such, Wahlai, that one concern am. Insofar as we are about verifiability and not truth, I’d just put his new age on his article. Oh well! In other news, Na this one they sweet me & as usual egbon mi, sorry oo. Lmaoooo. Celestina007 (talk) 00:19, 9 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
hahahaha.....I remember when Barcelona defeated Liverpool 3 goals to nil in the first leg (2019), we came from behind to win 4-3 on aggregate. I also remember when AC Milan were wining Liverpool 3-0 in UCL final of 2005, we came from behind to level. Liverpool have a history of coming from behind to get unexpected results, I am not saying we will qualify, I am only saying don't write them off. If there is a team that can do it, it is Liverpool. loooool!!!HandsomeBoy (talk) 12:35, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

It’s kinda sad

edit

We have discussed this before about veteran Nigerian actors who don’t get the recognition they deserve due to the fact that were active prior social media became a thing. Five of such come to mind, Patrick Doyle (Nigerian actor), Zulu Adigwe , Chika Anywanu, Chiege Alisigwe & Becky Okorie obviously most of them don’t satisfy NACTOR or GNG but is kinda sad all the same. Really really sad but this new actors get instant recognition because they know how to manipulate social media/the internet whilst the founding fathers of Nollywood all go unappreciated. It’s sad for real. Celestina007 (talk) 23:35, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Note that the dates observed in bold under the underlined title of message help reflect and clarify the most current & oldest messages with the most current being at the top and the oldest being at the bottom.

Welcoming New Volunteers
(25/06/2021)

We hereby want to officially welcome new volunteers who have recently joined the collaborative project and have volunteered to work in WP:NIGERIA. The arrival of new volunteers is often associated with the confusion of “what to do” on their part, it is then behoove of us to treat them with care, guide them, and protect them from the general pitfalls a new editor would most usually fall into. We are also admonished to clean up after them if they err and encourage them, most especially when they are genuine editors with potential to do good work not just for us, but for the community as a whole. Once more, we hereby thank all new editors who have volunteered to work here and hope they enjoy their stay here.

Requests for uncreated articles
(24/1/2020)

Greetings & a great weekend to you all. It would be great if the (Requests for uncreated articles) section in our wiki project can be attended to & at least one article be created this weekend as some requests have been pending since 2016. I believe this would be pivotal to the encyclopedia as a whole & a means to get editors who have gone inactive to revive their Wikipedia activities.

Proposed deletion of Abeni (film)

edit

The article Abeni (film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable film, appears to fail WP:NFILM as nothing was found in a WP:BEFORE except film database sites, videos, and promo material.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Wondering if there is a scientific narrative for August being longer than some other months. Does leap year affect this? HandsomeBoy (talk) 19:20, 1 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm I’m not so sure about that perhaps longer days shorter nights or vice-versa I can’t really tell. But I think it’s just an isolated feeling some people have, for example I Dey complain for one forum (under a different username of course) say why August just dey draw like ogbono na so one egbon reply me with “Sharap ya nonsense mouth there, August wey fly like breeze” I say “ahn ahn oga na my opinion I just air ooo no be fight we dey so abi you see me for dream” ?? baba reply with “no dey air yeye opinion here carry am go air for your papa” I just burst laugh, omo to be Nigerian sweet, in any case he clearly thought August went by too fast and I had the inverse feeling. Like you said maybe the egbon na one of this entrepreneurs wey dey vex say month dey rush and him no wan pay him employees. Celestina007 (talk) 17:27, 2 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
That's one hell of a story. If I were to take a wild guess. I'd say the forum in question should be Nairaland, there are many overly opinionated persons there :). HandsomeBoy (talk) 10:44, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

I am a die hard Messi lover, love his personality, playing style and everything about him. People often think I was a Barcelona supporter because my love for Messi transcends into Barca. Anyhow, Our goal na to just carry epl. When man utd disappoints this guys they give me joy sha. Celestina007 (talk) 14:54, 23 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
hahahaha...lol. Doubt that will happen. Liverpool are getting back on their feet already from the slow start to the season. Messi will certainly still deliver. But I'm not sure if I should feel good or bad for Bruno Fernandez in your last game. If Ronaldo had taken it, people like me would have said he's so full of himself and wants to be in the limelight, so can't really blame him for allowing Bruno. Plus Bruno has a better scoring ratio, although he has played less.HandsomeBoy (talk) 19:09, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
That’s the problem, Bruno was under tremendous stress, he didn’t even do his signature “jumping one leg kick” having CR7 is just too mentally intimidating, even to the detriment of his co-team players. That was what Rooney complained about back in '08, Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand are saying the same thing now in 2021, don’t get me wrong, I’d die for CR7 but tbh he is a “mental bully”, and a “one man show” type of player, which honestly is no longer working anymore, his trickery, step-overs, speed, acceleration, & tenacity aren’t as crisp as before, I mean, he isn’t 25 anymore and age is catching up real bad. On any other given day, Bruno would have scored that with his eyes closed if Ronaldo wasn’t present, Notice how Ronaldo gave him a “shoulder squeeze” after he missed that penalty? That wasn't to boost his morale, that was reverse psychology at its zenith done intentionally to subliminally intimidate him for future sake, creating a psychological environment in Bruno's mind where Bruno would always second guess himself and in future would yield & hand over to Ronaldo to take over penalty dead ball kicks altogether. Thats the same thing Lebron James does in Basketball. I’m hopeful about them all the same, Our only rivals are Liverpool and Chelsea. Man city don cast we dey beat them home & away like say them tiff phone for Obalende. Celestina007 (talk) 21:28, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I agree with everything you said. Coincidentally, I was watching the game with my junior brother who immediately alleged that Bruno might have deliberately missed the pk since he went about it in a significantly different pattern as you've said. That is just a conspiracy theory, and I don't think there is any chance that is the case. But it just shows how the mental state of a person could influence the quality of their actions. Sad!HandsomeBoy (talk) 06:38, 28 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ehhn so you can watch “game” with somebody abi? But when I was begging you to come & watch me play basketball (which I’m incredibly good at) at Ndubuisi Kanu park you were shakaring me abi? (Just kidding I know they aren’t the same thing) Anyways following my terrible knee injury I don’t play basketball anymore hence I cripple it due to my ailment(which you know) I don’t talk about it anymore). Lmaoooo “my junior brother who immediately alleged that Bruno might have deliberately missed the pk” your bro na better conspiracy theorist 😂. Celestina007 (talk) 22:13, 5 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
tbf, if there is a conspiracy theorist in my family, it got to be me not him. I was also shocked when he said it, but guess it was at the spur of the moment and doesn't really mean it. Speaking about meetup, we should certainly hangout by December. Around second week of December.HandsomeBoy (talk) 07:26, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Atrophy of Some Nigerian “Reliable Sources”

edit

Coming from here despite the name of this entry, ostensibly it is a general crisis, when I mention the gradual retrogression or atrophy of Nigerian RS I am tackled but to substantiate my claim take a look at this supposedly stellar source The Guardian (Nigeria) now take a look at this piece & this is supposed to be from a stellar source yet they are engaging in rogue journalism by failing to announce that very piece is a pre packaged material, even worse is that they tried to pass it as a legitimate piece when it is crystal clear it pr sponsored. Without even using my clandestine tools which I use in nabbing pre packaged materials, anyone can do a before search and verify this. If we have to scrutinize a “reliable” source then it ceases to be a reliable source, & if that becomes the case unfortunately the source may need to be deprecated. Praxidicae also noted the gradual atrophy of this source 8 months ago. However just as DGG, I believe and belong to the school of thought that there isn’t anything like a “reliable source” rather, a reliable piece from a reliable source. In sourcing, the piece is really what matters. Celestina007 (talk) 22:06, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Per my understanding, News media (reliable sources) are obligated to report factual information, they are not necessarily required to have an objective tone, that is for Wikipedia to do. If someone have won a highly respected African movie award multiple times, a journalist can choose to praise him in his piece. That is what makes Wikipedia special, our ability to filter out facts from POV narration and the un-due weight of the so-called "reliable sources". I just needed to give a quick generic reply, I will expand my reply hopefully before the end of today. HandsomeBoy (talk) 10:06, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you are referencing WP:BIASED but I don’t think you understand me. I do not speak about “tone” here, although that is a different discussion altogether, which may or may not be indicative of a reliable source, within the confines of WP:RSCONTEXT but what I speak of is a deliberate failure to disclose a pre packaged material, pre packaged materials are invariably pr sponsored. I believe without even using any tools you can tell a pre packaged material when you come across one by doing a minor “before” so as I said earlier I wasn’t discussing tone but a re-occurring incident of a particular “reliable source” failing to disclose a pre-packaged material. Somewhere in my response above I have showed you how to discover pre packaged material. Celestina007 (talk) 20:08, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
I agree with you that many of our so called "reliable sources" publish content that falls below Wikipedia standard for sources. I have raised this in several talkpages and forums on and off Wikipedia. Even Punch, that is probably the most widely read newspaper have many terrible content (hopefully they are beginning to change that). I think with time they will get better, it is a process. Mutual Philosophy

edit

i have read, replied and removed the entry from my TP due to the fact that it is a philosophy I have adopted since 30-09-2021 and find it somewhat moot. Furthermore, as I mentioned in the reply I totally agree with you, I find prudence, diligence and integrity to be the tenets that never fail for any editor who wants to better themselves, we edit in futility if all the named tenets aren’t our mantra, there are also other potential problems coming from not just Nigeria related articles but from articles from all parts of the world, it is a very clear and present danger and an existential threat to the integrity of the collaborative project as a whole, I also find that this problem is so, because editors who ought to speak or act, do not do so. Edmund Burke said it best when they stated “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”, having said, I expressly want to state that I do not advocate for a vigilante style of negating this ills, neither do I advocate a “conscious effort” approach to dealing with this ills, what I do advocate is “for not looking away when we envisage such ills, rather in any capability we can, let us report such ill when it stares us in the face” I adopted on the 30th of September 2021, not to be too confrontational, a simple dialogue with the editors involved and if unsatisfied, filing an official report to the relevant noticeboard. Forgive the verbose, but I do hope you grasp my thought process. A happy new year to you. Celestina007 (talk) 23:43, 1 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Our Mummy GO ooo

edit

Is At It Again. I swear to God, I haven’t seen a person more deserving of a Wikipedia article in the shortest span than “our Mummy GO” . There was one she allegedly said anyone born on Jan 4th is automatically destined for hell & I was like Mummy ooooooooo abeg no use laugh wounjure me. Celestina007 (talk) 07:21, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Celestina007: Good to hear from you in a jovial tone again. I beg to differ on this. I think she will not be relevant when another trend sets in, WP:RECENTISM might apply. But I might be wrong though. Come to think of it, your team are really doing badly. Indeed you don't know how valuable someone is until you lose him. Ole had better results than Rangnick. HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:21, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
No no you dey correct I was joking around, there is nothing encyclopedic about her and I’m big on encyclopedic value, but to be honest if I came across a well sourced article about her that meets GNG, I probably might just mark as reviewed but unfortunately I don’t see her meeting GNG anytime soon. See ehn as for Man U, I honestly cannot can anymore, honestly speaking local girl has lost all her abilities to can. Darreg, to be honest I think Ronaldo is the problem, or Cavani, or the fact that we are playing Greenwood in a false position, Ragnick's gegenpressing can’t work with men in their mid thirties playing upfront. The whole team and staff needs a revamp to be honest, I think we are what now? Seventh ba? Omo, abeg my brother shift make local girl faint in peace. Celestina007 (talk) 09:42, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
I agree that Ronaldo might have unknowingly impacted them negatively. Even Juventus players were saying something similar.HandsomeBoy (talk) 10:34, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Are they the same?

edit

Hi Sir,

How is your weekend going? Are these two articles not the same people? Is it a mere coincidence that we have the same name in the same sport?

Danidamiobi (talk) 19:34, 26 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Danidamiobi:, this is an interesting one, especially since she began representing England in the mid 90s. From my research, I believe they are the same, and the appropriate spelling for her name should be "Kuburat Owolabi", except she modified her name in her later career. Nice find, we have so may of these mixups on Wikipedia because not many people are paying attention to these articles. It might be a good idea to know what @Lugnuts: thinks, since he created one of the articles and also edited the one he didn't create.HandsomeBoy (talk) 20:16, 26 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yea, I did notice Lugnuts' contribution to both. Thanks for helping out. Danidamiobi (talk) 20:31, 26 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for spotting this and pinging me. Yes, I'd agree they are the same person, so I've merged them into the one article. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:44, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Removal of your message from my TP

edit

For courtesy sake I would like to tell you that I have removed this message from my TP. I do not think I appreciate phrases such as valid or not or any form of trivialization of serious things, If it weren’t you, I would have removed the message without bothering to extended the courtesy of explaining the reason. You saying that you think my physical attack may not have been linked to Wikipedia is another example of how that message was wrong on so many levels. This is merely a notification. Hello HandsomeBoy

Hello @HandsomeBoy: You once said you were good at uploading images on Wikimedia Commons and you would assist me with images. I created three Nigerian football clubs and I need to add their logos; can you assist me with that? The clubs are Naija Ratels, Doma United and Ikorodu City. Regards! Invitation to participate in a research

edit

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Months of African Cinema

edit

Hello Handsome Boy, I hope this message finds you well.

I was curious about why the Months of African Cinema contest was discontinued. It was one of the first major initiatives I participated in as an editor, and I remember it fondly. While I certainly wasn’t the most skilled and knowledgeable editor at the time, the experience sparked my love for article creation. Since then, I’ve worked on and created some excellent articles, including a GA on a Moroccan movie.

I’d love to hear about your experience overseeing the contest (forgive me if I’m mistaken and you were simply a proactive participant) as well as what led to its discontinuation. It’s something I’d love to see relaunched. Mooonswimmer 22:59, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Mooonswimmer: It gladdens my heart to read such an amazing report on the impact of the AfroCine Project, and I am really motivated about what the future holds. You are spot-on, I am the co-facilitator for the AfroCine Project, and not a participant. I will not say it was cancelled or stopped, rather we had some logistic needs that we want to be in place before promoting the next contest, and we needed assurances on them. The core organizing team are still together and we deliberated on having it this year. It should most definitely happen next year. Your kind words absolutely made my day!
