The spammer of our mutual acquaintance
I looked up Robbie Glover. He doesn't seem to have produced anything for at least a year. That probably explains the absence of new sources since the last deletion. Is he still emailing everyone he can find to angle for an article? Guy (Help!) 18:49, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- He doesn't have to do new items, although it would be useful. There is no question that he has not had two number ones in Eastern Europe - well reported by the BBC (I think we can call that reliable, and certainly not self written). The problem is locating these old references, the amount of on-line data in that period is very low (the internet was a much smaller place in those days), so it takes time and effort to get hold of old material. There's little new stuff, so I doubt if he is putting anything about now. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:17, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- My take on it is different. The article was created and heavily edited multiple times,. every single time by Glover himself. He has also sent many emails making it absolutely plain that he wants a Wikipedia article as a promotional tool. That tends to get my back up a bit. Guy (Help!) 22:42, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Well I've edited a lot of the Glover references out, and found some better ones - true a lot of the original references were blogs, self-written web pages, etc. Useful information, no doubt, but one then has to find a proper reference to back it up, that becomes the hard part, of course - finding Eastern European references in the relevant years is not that easy. I think if he was that desperate for an article he would have gone down the paid editing route by now, which he hasn't done (not that that would guarantee an article). Saravah Soul page deletion
Hi
I have just noticed the page on Saravah Soul has been deleted by you. The band was playing until 2012, when I came back to Brazil.
Here is a good reference on the band: http://www.tru-thoughts.co.uk/artists/saravah-soul Cheers Otto Nascarella2804:14D:5CD1:866A:F8FE:5B75:6107:95E3 (talk) 15:09, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
- If you want it restored, then just request - see User:Ronhjones/DeletedPROD. That ref was already in the article. If restored, it would be expected that a full deletion request would follow, unless the article is considerably improved. Ronhjones (Talk) 18:06, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Disappointed
Glover tried for years to spam Wikipedia, and you just gave him what he wants. I cannot pretend to be anything other than revolted by his abuse of Wikipedia ofr self=promotion, and your enabling him is disappointing to say the least. And now it's all off my watchilist and I will try to forget about the nauseating <derogatory term removed>. Guy (Help!) 01:13, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- As you well know, I have spent some considerable time and effort in tracking down proper data and removing all the items that were potentially self-written or were just a copy of his published bio - just type "Robbie Glover" into google, you get page after page of items about this person, all those hits would never come from spamming the system. A musician has to pass at least one of the 12 criteria on WP:BAND, I've made sure that at least 4 are passed. For some reason you just don't like him. I don't like his music, but nevertheless, I think he deserves to be here. Ronhjones (Talk) 02:27, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, he is a most assiduous self-publicist. I hate spammers. Did I mention that I hate people who abuse Wikipedia for self-promotion? I hate spammers. Oh, and guess what? The timing is just right for his new album. Imagine that. I have absolutely no doubt that he has engaged in lobbying here, as I say I am disappointed that he has been given the only thing that he wants from Wikipedia, which is advertising space. Spammer gets his spam article, spammer happy. Not my favourite outcome, regardless of the identity of the spammer. Guy (Help!) 09:10, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- Lobbying where? I see very few edits by the author. I originally saw the page as autobiography, which had the potential to become a workable page, once the all the self-promotion stuff was removed, and re-phrased. I never work on any article I am personally involved with (particularly not since being an admin). I think we will have to agree to disagree. Ronhjones (Talk) 20:13, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello Ronhjones, it is nice to meet you! My issue in A Dream of Fair Women was not the poem (which is in the public domain), but rather some sentences of analysis about the poem that appear to have been copied. For example, in this version of the page, I think the text "The reference is, of course, to the well-known story of Margaret Roper, the daughter of Sir Thomas More, who is said to have taken his head when he was executed and preserved it till her death" was copied from http://www.online-literature.com/tennyson/4071/, and in this version, the text "Both are visions and both have as their heroines illustrious women who were unfortunate" also appears to have been copied.
Being relatively new to the copyright game on Wikipedia, I defer to your judgment; do you think this is substantial enough to meet the "blatant" criteria in RD1? I don't want to waste administrators' time in the future if copying does not meet the "blatant"ness threshold. Thanks! /wiae /tlk 01:48, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
- I see your reasoning. It's obvious they have copied and pasted from the article, having said that, 99% of the text if out of copyright. Probably that one line is a minor breach (but we don't know who said that, and was it said at the time or much later). Note Wikipedia:Copyright_problems#Suspected_or_complicated_infringement - The infringing text will remain in the page history for archival reasons unless the copyright holder asks the Wikimedia Foundation to remove it. So for small violations, we tend to leave it alone, (just makes sure it's not the current version - this also makes it easier for any editor to fix the problem without assistance). None of the old versions are indexed either by Wikipedia or by the search engines - so it's very unlikely to be found unless one was specifically looking for it. Don't worry too much about Admin's time - we rather have a report in good faith than some copyright being ignored. If in doubt do use WP:CP and WP:MCQ to ask about suspected copyright problems you are unsure about. Good hunting Ronhjones (Talk) 21:32, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello,
In 2011, you deleted an article about a Welsh folk band called Jamie Smith's Mabon[1]. The grounds were unambiguous copyright infringement. I would like to submit an article about this band and I do not intend to infringe any copyright or to use duplicate content of any kind. Can you please advise how I can/should now proceed?
Many thanks, Daniel Pressley Dlpressley (talk) 10:18, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Images with dual conflicting copyright notation
Gooday Ron - I hope all is well with you, as you seem to have been much less wiki-active than previously. I've seen some Flickr images which I could use, watermarked with a copyright logo (©) and owner's name, but uploaded under CC BY-SA 2.0. Which would prevail? Thx, Steve.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 22:23, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
- To be exact, even with CC-BY-SA-2.0, the owner still has copyright - just reduced. If one does not follow the CC-BY-SA rules then that is still a breach of copyright, so the logo may be OK - so long as the name agrees with the flickr account. "All rights Reserved" is the killer phrase to avoid. However it could be flickrwashing - (Commons:commons:License_laundering). Also check commons:User:FlickreviewR/bad-authors and see if the author code (shown in the image url) is in the list. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:05, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
- OK, ta, everything checks out well (many albums) including real-name, so I proceeded to upload just one File:Norton Cam Donald.jpg and as an afterthought, following some deliberation, added {{watermark}} so that the image-checked knows I have seen and considered it. I don't expect the main image would be used on-wiki, as my want was to crop-out a portrait (one of the boons of large file sizes) which is now up at the BLP infobox Cameron Donald.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 23:27, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
- Looks OK, I've added the standard {{flickrreview}} to the commons page - it will let the flickr bot run its "eye" over it and hopefully approve. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:45, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- Yep, that was a quick bot! I've just done another similar. Thx.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 01:14, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- The bot is useful as it gives a nice timestamp on the current license - if the Flickr author changes it later, you have evidence that all was OK at the upload time, and the image can then remain. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:03, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- Is that something I could add as a 'plain' editor without rights/tools, and would being the uploader to Wikimedia be a conflict? I've now added two more from same source, subsequent to the initial image.
I've been looking at examples where indeffed userpages and talk pages are not blanked, and one admin has stated to me that the templates should be added only by an admin or clerk, although s/he could not point to any guidelines as such. We mentioned similar a long time back, referring to long-gone editors User talk:Ronhjones/Archive 29#When you get the time...inactive Users
From your perspective, the ever-swelling talk pages from Mediawiki messaging; from my perspective, a wikiproject with 20 active members, not 130-150 that the membership list suggests. After I had ruminated on it for a long time, when I followed your suggestion of contacting technical 13, I found this editor had been indeffed June 2015. Whereas I understand the need for records of article contribution history, I am unsure if there's any WMF rationale for keeping User page content?—Rocknrollmancer (talk) 03:05, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
- Adding {{flickrreview}} can be added any anyone - it implies noting, as it just calls up the bot to check the page. Inactive editors... {sigh}... Sadly, since every version of every page is kept, it makes no difference to reduce a user page. What is needed is something to to stop the dross being added to the pages in the first place. It might be nice if we could add something like {{NoNewTalk}} to inactive pages and then adjust the mailbots not to add their items to the pages. Having said that - it's just another thing that could be open to abuse by malicious editors... Ronhjones (Talk) 01:52, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've added the review bot x2, all OK.—Rocknrollmancer (talk) 14:06, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

- Writing about one's own subject/company/person has always been strongly discouraged. See Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest. Thus the community expects editors to be independent from their subject matter. We cannot find editors for you, you could suggest the article at Wikipedia:Requested articles, and state there is a deleted article available as an initial start. Curtis C. Harris
Hi Ron,
I was ready to add some significant edits to the page I had started for Curtis C. Harris and discovered that it had been deleted due to inactivity for a period of time. Can this be restored so that I can add these edits? I also want to upload a picture of Curt but am not sure what the best procedure would be.
Thanks, Jim Ellenberger (ellenbergerjn@yahoo.com)James Ellenberger (talk) 19:14, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
- Articles on living people have to be well referenced from the start! The only way to restore was as a draft Draft:Curtis_C._Harris. You can now work on the article without the risk of deletion (unless you don't edit for 6 months). When finished you can click the link in the banner to get it reviewed and moved. Vandalism & Harassment
Hi Ronhjones,
It appears that an IP editor is being quite hostile (incl. using profanities directed at me on an article Talk page - at Amherstburg). I have reason to believe that the IP user (User:2607:FEA8:A29F:FDEE:B54F:395A:F584:4B07), is User:Hazen89, who was recently banned indefinitely for similar offences.
The reason I am contacting you specifically, is because according to the block log, you dealt with this issue/user before. I also posted a similar/copy message on the talk page of the other admin (User:Ohnoitsjamie) that helped you block this user.
Furthermore, (not sure if this should be a separate issue), the above user and another one (User:Meganesia) are reverting edits to several climate pages, without providing any sources backing their claims. The articles of issue are: Amherstburg and Humid subtropical climate, as well as the talk page of user User:Meganesia. In the dispute, I have provided several sources from a variety of universities and government orgs. supporting the -3C isotherm for the Cfa climate, while the opposing parties provided none, instead resorting to insulting my country of residence and myself.
It would be awesome if you could help look into this, and if you could request that the articles in question be protected, (if you believe it is necessary of course), and ask the other editor to act civil and discuss facts vs. opinions (or at least provide sources).

Fiat Chrysler
Hi Ron. I visited the FCA page to edit the Chrysler page, only to find the page is now protected ... by you. So instead of editing and then fighting about the edit afterwards I figured I would contact you first.
The Wikipedia page reads:
"FCA US LLC, also known as simply Chrysler (/ˈkraɪslər/), is an American automobile manufacturer headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan and owned by holding company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), headquartered in London, U.K."
Chrysler is no longer an "American" automobile manufacturer as it is owned by an Italian company Fiat which moved its registration to Netherlands for tax purposes. http://www.mlive.com/auto/index.ssf/2014/08/fiat_shareholders_approve_chry.html
Other foreign owned manufacturers building cars in the USA do not receive similar preferential treatment in Wikipedia. For instance, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. owns 4 manufacturing locations in the USA but Honda is not referred to as an "American" automobile manufacturer. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. appears as only a footnote in the main Honda article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda#US_sales
There are two articles in Wikipedia about Chrysler; one about the manufacturer and one about the brand. There is an argument that can be made that Chrysler is an American brand that is owned by the Italians. But there is no argument that can be made that FCA is an American manufacturer, otherwise Wikipedia should offer Honda, Toyota, BMW, Daimler and the 6 other foreign owned automobile manufacturers who build cars in the USA the same preferential treatment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_automotive_assembly_plants_in_the_United_States#See_also
The reality is Fiat in Italy wholly acquired Chrysler on January 21, 2014. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/driveon/2014/01/21/done-deal-fiat-now-owns-all-of-chrysler/4718529/ Then set up Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV in Netherlands with a physical home in ... Britain! For tax purposes. http://www.mlive.com/auto/index.ssf/2014/01/chrysler_fiat_become_fiat_chry.html
That is like me putting the headquarters of a company in the Cayman Islands, for tax purposes. That doesn't mean ANYTHING is in the Cayman Islands except an empty office. I haven't figured out just what FCA has in Britain, but it definitely does NOT have 22 executives Wikipedia says it has there: "Many executives of the 22-member leadership team, including Marchionne, have worked between Auburn Hills and Italy for years." That certainly does NOT mean those 22 people are now located in London. See the article cited by Wikipedia here: http://www.mlive.com/auto/index.ssf/2014/08/fiat_shareholders_approve_chry.html
It seems that FCA is doing a really good job managing the corporate image of FCA to turn it from an Italian company into an " "Italian-American multinational corporation" see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Chrysler_Automobiles
Specifically, the chairman of FCA is John Elkann who is ... Italian, and a direct descendant of Giovanni Agnelli, the founder of Fiat. Elkann is the chairman of 3 companies: Giovanni Agnelli Co., Exor and FCA. Giovanni Agnelli Co.holds 51.39% of Exor. Exor owns 29.19% of FCA and controls a 44.31% voting interest in FCA. All very Italian. Only 25% of FCA is owned by shareholders with USA addresses, meaning a vast majority (somewhere near 75%) are controlled by Italians. http://2014annualreport.fcagroup.com/en/report-operations/major-shareholders
In reality FCA is a company owned by Italians, controlled by Italians and to most people should be called an Italian company. A company owned by Italians, run by Italians is an Italian company, it doesn't matter what country a business is located in. Regardless of where the business registration (Netherlands) or corporate headquarters (London) are situated, or if it has a big subsidiary in the USA (Chrysler), FIAT is still an Italian company.
Charliep8 (talk) 04:33, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
It seems FCA is doing a really good job Managing their Wikipedia presence, much to the chagrin of other USA based manufacturers. Because of Wikipedia pages which were left over from before Fiat's acquisition of Chrysler when both were independent companies FCA has no less than FIVE (5) pages describing their company covering basically the same information:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Chrysler_Automobiles
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FCA_Italy
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_%28brand%29
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Automobiles
It seems that at minimum the first 2 entries could be combined, and probably the first three entries could be combined. That may be more than I wanted to bite off right now. My proposed change would be to the Chrysler article changing it from:
FCA US LLC, also known as simply Chrysler (/ˈkraɪslər/), is an American automobile manufacturer headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan and owned by holding company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), headquartered in London, U.K.[4] Chrysler is one of the "Big Three" American automobile manufacturers. It sells vehicles worldwide under its flagship Chrysler brand, as well as the Dodge, Jeep, and Ram Trucks.
TO:
FCA US LLC, is the USA subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles BV, an Italian controlled automobile company registered in the Netherlands with headquarters in London, UK for tax purposes. FCA US LLC has its headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan and its vehicles are sold worldwide under the brands Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Ram and Maserati.

- As you may note the page is only semi-protected. Feel free to edit appropriately. This was the "Brian Thompson" vandal. (s)he was repeatedly added that name as the CEO to this and dozens of other pages. It was quite a task to keep up with the person, who changed their IP on every edit. There were several editors constantly monitoring lots of pages, where there was repeat vandalism, we semi-protected the pages. If you want I can take the protection off, and see how it goes... Ronhjones (Talk) 00:03, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Okay, I made some changes. I left in that FCA US is one of the Big 3 even though the definition of the Big 3 is evolving since FCA US is no longer a USA automobile company.
There is a problem which I don't know how to fix. Right now FCA US is forwarding to Chrysler instead of the other way around:
Chrysler From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Redirected from FCA US
The title of the page should be changed to FCA US since Chrysler as a company doesn't exist any longer. Chrysler is a brand which has its own page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_%28brand%29
Note this has already been done for FCA Italy (formerly FIAT) but for some reason Chrysler was not corrected: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FCA_Italy
Can you make the change so the page will be titled:
FCA US From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Redirected from Chrysler
Charliep8 (talk) 05:00, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
- Use the requested move - Wikipedia:Requested_moves#Requesting_a_single_page_move. Things like this are best done by consensus. If agreed, it will need an admin to move the page Chrysler to FCA US. Copy the template from that page to bottom of Talk:Chrysler and change NewName to FCA US, and add your reasoning. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:53, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

Gooday Ron - could you have a look at this File:Illustrated map of Peel, Isle of Man. Created May 2016 by Alice Quayle.jpg.
Concerns are creator's name appearing in the filename, creator's name appearing in the illustration, copyright logo appearing in the illustration, and WP being used for advertising (?) the creator's name as a media professional (LinkedIn).
I've been sitting on this editor for nearly a year, has two identities (can both be seen in this article history, U:AliceQuayle and U:Sunshineramsey, but both were mostly dormant, now a flurry of commentary-style prose changes to local (Isle of Man) articles from Sunshineramsey. Possible re-creation of the Living Wage Foundation article
Hi there! I have been involved in editing content regarding the Living Wage movement in the United Kingdom, and have come across a few redlinks for the Living Wage Foundation. I've looked into setting up a page for the organisation, but I've noticed that a previous article with that name was speedily deleted a few years ago. I'd like to ask if you're of the opinion that it would be an unsuitable subject for an article, or whether it was the quality of the previous article that was at fault and hence that it would be appropriate for me to create a new article on the subject. I'm not an admin, so I presume that I can't check up on the old article's text to see what it was like. The two reasons given are copyright infringement and lack of demonstrated significance. Given the frequency with which the organisation gets referred to in the news and academic press, I would have thought a case for significance could probably be made. What do you think? Yours Polly Tunnel (talk) 13:52, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
- The reason it was deleted is that it was just a copy of http://www.livingwage.org.uk/history, and deleted as copyright violation. There were also no references to support the data. It might well qualify for an article if properly written. Ronhjones (Talk) 16:42, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
Princess Aisha marriage
Can I just check that we're confident that this correction of a spelling per OTRS "copies of official documents" isn't a hoax? (I don't have OTRS access myself.) There was some weirdness (mentioned at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ed Banayoti) of various IPs and SPAs insisting that Aisha's husband was the Canadian defence contractor "Ed Banayoti" rather than "Ashraf Banayotti" and/or that they separated a month later. One account claimed to be Ed Banayoti, explained that the Royal Court announcement itself had a typo on it, and offered to send us his passport and wedding photos. If the OTRS is from that same person, it seems very odd that a member of the Jordanian royal family is concerned enough to send his passport to Wikipedia, but unable to get the Jordan Times to run any kind of correction. --McGeddon (talk) 11:31, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
- It does look OK to me from what was sent in. Might be a good idea to get a second opinion by using Wikipedia:OTRS_noticeboard. Ronhjones (Talk) 16:44, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Hello, in January 2011 you permanently semi-protected this page, as there was a lot of vandalism due to an upcoming transfer.
However, I think now could be a good time to remove all protection. That particular transfer has passed, and Sammon is now a rather low-profile player. In my time editing football pages I have noticed that IPs are generally helpful for trivial and ephemeral details like updating statistics. If you compare the page history for Sammon and for his strike partner Robbie Muirhead, you can see the difference.
In short, as you know, pages are protected to save the time of established users, and to protect living people from harm to their reputation. There is no ongoing event that would cause vandalism here. I do not see that there would be much to lose to unprotect this page, and I see there is at least something to earn.
Yours, '''tAD''' (talk) 21:39, 21 July 2016 (UTC)
Just so you understand the situation. This is a new editor who has created dozens of articles that have had to be deleted or redirected. He has made improper articles and articles that already exist. His article List of WTA Tour players by career match wins is one such article that is about to be deleted and I assume he really wanted to put this draft article in his sandbox for some reason. Instead he made a draft article which is why I asked for a speedy deletion. I hope that helps clarify my reasoning. Fyunck(click) (talk) 00:19, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
- Draft articles are not indexed by Google - if you check the page source HTML of any Draft article then we have the line
- <meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow"/> - which stops any crawler indexer from indexing the page
- This was one of the main reasons for having a Draft space. If no-one can find it then it not a problem. All sorts of random stuff are in Draft. If it gets left for 6 months untouched then it gets deleted, the only other main other reason for deletion of a draft page is copyright violations Ronhjones (Talk) 00:39, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
- Can anyone edit them? Fyunck(click) (talk) 00:43, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
- Technically you can edit any page you like, but it's not really done to edit someone's else's draft without their agreement - the whole point of the draft space was to allow editors as much time as they wanted to slowly compose a page gathering data as they found it from various sources - so long as they stuck to improving the page and not letting it become a stale draft, they are free to carry on. They could well revert back any unwanted edits - unless you deem it to be a copyright issue or sometimes a severe personal attack. It hasn't get a draft banner, I'll add one. :-) Ronhjones (Talk) 14:23, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

You've made incessant requests yet when files have been restored you have made zero effort to put right the issues surrounding their use, the result being they have now been deleted again. I can't see it being allowed as a non-free content anyway, It's going to seriously fail one or more of the WP:NFCC (No. 1 and No. 3b at least) - also an image should be less than 100,00 pixels and low resolution (WP:Image resolution), it's nowhere near that, we do allow some latitude on that number, but this is a big document. If it was a government publication, is it not crown copyright? If so it's well expired back in 1988. You don't need to show a document in your article to use as a reference. - I just plucked 213.205.240.0/20 off the whois page - that seems to be a subset of the whole range. Hopefully we won't need it - Orange is part of a big network here - they could move location onto anther part and get a completely different IP. Ronhjones (Talk) 14:13, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Blocking of user
Thanks for blocking the user User:the crown princess, however I think that a 31 hour block is too short. An unlimited block would be preferred as (most likely) the person behind the account regularly reappears and adds the same bogus information to different pages concerning Swedish royalty. --Marbe166 (talk) 19:43, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

Western film vandal
Hello and thanks for blocking 67.44.210.8. I wondered why the edits had stopped! This persistent contributor has been range-blocked on 67.44.208.* since June but has obviously found a new address outside that /24. Further details in User:Certes/Western. Certes (talk) 23:51, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

- Now at
67.44.209.4567.44.209.43, with a mix of positive and negative contributions today. I suspect the connection is shared between a bona fide IP editor and a mischievous child. Certes (talk) 13:11, 21 August 2016 (UTC)- @Certes: Materialscientist blocked him this morning. The IP is coming up in a large range at whois for United States Statesville Hughes Network Systems - NetRange: 67.44.0.0 - 67.47.255.255; CIDR: 67.44.0.0/14 - a /14 is 262,144 address, I'm loathe to block that many addresses - quarter of a million people can't edit due to one a***hole. I would rather semi protect all the pages on your list (nice to have a list!) for a month and see if that terminates the behaviour. Let me know if they start up on a new IP and I'll start protecting - I've done this before on other subjects, and they did then get the message. Ronhjones (Talk) 17:04, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
- I'm no admin but blocking a /14 would clearly be disproportionate. I've just done a rough count of unwelcome edits to western film articles in the last year: 330 from 67.44.208.*, 320 from 67.44.209.*, 300 from 67.44.210.*, zero from adjacent /24s and a few other random ones I checked. The vandal was inactive from June until this weekend: maybe stuck on the blocked 67.44.208.* range, maybe enjoying the sunshine. I'll report back when there's another mole to whack. - It was shining very nicely today - rather unusual for a UK bank holiday! As we said blocking that IP range would be too severe, so this is the best option. It was made easier with your list of pages - I just highlight them with mouse and use Linky to load every one into a new tab - then it's just a small slog to go though tab by tab. Just keep watch when the 3 months is up! Ronhjones (Talk) 23:51, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion: Michael B. Bracken.JPG
Hello Ronhjones,
The world of Wikipedia article creation and editing is new to me. Apologies for the copyright violation for the uploaded image Michael B. Bracken.jpg. The image came from my own camera work (on a Nikon Coolpix L26) for Professor Bracken's book insert (Risk, Chance, and Causation: Investigating the Origins of Disease, 2013, Yale University Press).
Which copyright option should I choose for this image? Or should I upload a different image for review?
In addition, I uploaded 3 other images for Professor Bracken's Wikipedia article (which I'm still editing and drafting). The images are book covers, of each of his published books. What information do I need to know to select the correct copyright category/type per Wikipedia guidelines?
Best, LENK2121 (Lia)LENK2121 (talk) 14:34, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
- As I often tell people, always upload at Wikipedia (and it should really be at wikimedia commons, for free images) first. All editors on Wikipdia are effectively anonymous, so we have no way of knowing who owns an image - therefore when an image is on a remote web site, then we must assume (as is usually the case!) that the image has copied from the web site. Since that image is on X, with "© 2016 Yale School of Medicine" at the bottom of the page, we have to believe that Yale School of Medicine owns the copyright (and they may well do, uploading images to some web sites will give them the copyright). Suggest if you have not given anay the copyright upload properly at c:Commons:Upload - obviously use the full size from the camera, add to the image page {{OTRS pending}}, and go to c:com:consent to donate the copyright.
- Book covers - they will need a copyright release from the book cover's copyright owner (possibly the designer, possibly the publisher). If the article was about a book then you could have a small fair-use image of the cover (but not in Draft), but not on an article for the author of the books. Many thanks for your help. I've submitted the above article for review.
Will a reviewer tell me when it's ready for publication or will they publish it themselves/
Also I'm not sure I understand about the references being in-line - sorry!!

- The reference part that you add... <ref>some data</ref> needs to be in the main body, next to the fact that the reference supports, they are no good at the end, we don't know which sentence is supported by which reference. The system will show the ref at the end and a superscript number in the body at the place the reference is located. The reviewer will leave a note on your talk page. 19th ESC
Hello,
I see you recently speedily deleted the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command Article. This was done under G12. I'm not sure it meets the criteria. Many military articles use primary sources, and this one does, but this article is not a direct copy of the site listed here:[4] though I see that large portions do appear to be from the article sources. In addition, there appears to be some credibility to a fair use claim, because the original sources are works of the federal government. Finally the article is salvageable, and could be re-written with additional data from additional sources. Sephiroth storm (talk) 04:39, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

You speedily-deleted this in spite of it being an established nickname for Adrian Neville. This is a phrase televised on the WWE NXT program which Neville consented to be on.
I would also argue that it's not an attack on him because it doesn't actually accuse him of being presently not good-looking. You can be born plain-looking and then build a fabulous physique with hard work and become good-looking over time, as he has. Ranze (talk) 04:38, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
- As it's unreferenced, it is an attack - it's not on Adrian_Neville page Ronhjones (Talk) 17:52, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
It wasn't unreferenced, it comes from an episode of WWE NXT in January 2014, it is a nickname invented by Tyler Breeze to play on his preceding "The Man Gravity Forgot" moniker. I expected people to question the veracity of that claim which is why I included this link to a clip where you can listen to it yourself.
Specifically it is from the 83rd episode which aired January 15th 2014 and was taped November 21st 2013. Spoken before Neville defeated Breeze in the first (non-dark) match of the night.
People have a habit of deleting reliably sourced nicknames from pages of wrestlers they like if they don't like the nickname. The usual excuse is a lack of notability or something.
I believe that a redirect has a lower notability requirement than displaying a nickname though. We redirect plausible typos but do not list plausible typos on pages. So we should also be able to redirect a reliably sourced nickname like this one even if there is not consensus that it is important enough to mention on the page, because it is still useful to know who Tyler was talking about for those who only saw his end-monologue.
Scripted attacks against wrestling characters (Adrian Neville) are not actual personal attacks against a real person (Benjamin Satterley). The character Big Show for example has the nickname "Big Nasty Bastard" on his article, which is clearly more insulting than saying someone wasn't born good-looking. It's okay to do that though, because Big Show is merely a character, so calling the character a "Bastard" does not violate BLP concerns against Paul Wight, the athlete who portrays that character. Ranze (talk) 02:19, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
- More here: User_talk:NeilN#Snow_caution. Ranze, I don't think this is helping your cause vis-à-vis your likely topic ban but that's up to you. --NeilN talk to me 02:30, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
- @NealN: you may be right, but I'm not going to game the system. I'd love to make apologies wherever possible and wish I could find more areas to do so, to show I'm not as stubborn as I'm being portrayed, but they need to be genuine apologies based on actual goofs. Not defending this redirect is like acquiescing to the portrayal that I made it as a personal attack against Ben Satterly, which just isn't true. This is a nickname associated with the character he portrays, Adrian Neville, who I don't believe falls under BLP protections. Acknowledging the "Man Gravity Forgot" persona being the subject of Breeze's nickname is not an attack on Mr. Satterly. Ranze (talk) 02:40, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
- You can't add a ref to a redirect page, so the statement needs to be on Adrian Neville and referenced. It's clearly not. We always expect the redirect page name to have some mention on the article page, or it's a meaningless redirect - so the edit was wrong on 2 counts. This is about a living person, we don't make exceptions to BLP for wreslers. Ronhjones (Talk) 16:28, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Extended confirmed protection
Hello, Ronhjones. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Dunning-Kruger Doesn't Need To Come Up For Air. When You See It, It's Attacking.
Ron,
Just touching base about your good contribution to Double-Entry Bookkeeping.
Ya done good, kid. Greensburger doesn't have the first clue, and the others on the page, while not exactly machine-gunning the joint with arrant stupidity, still manage to bring an ignorance and prissiness that they think of as probity to the whole thing.
The article as it stands right now is superb. Measured, thoughtful, balanced, and accurate.
The people who want to "improve" the accounting equation, the equality of debits and credits, into wedding cakes of their own icing are a menace. Their cheeping about the Traditional Method is the reason Dunning-Kruger made it to my header. People of their type are the reason the Big Eight accounting firms are now the Big Three -- and why the Big Three are still a major menace to the commercial sector of civilisation.
Keep on keepin' on. Vienna stood in 1683. The Few held up in 1940. Keep your hand on the plough, hold on.

Hello! Being new to this, I'm wondering if you could help me out. I submitted an article for approval, but it notes that the article was deleted and, not being familiar with the lingo, am just wondering why and how to fix it. The notices are as follows:

Your protection of an article after a report at AIV
Hello. Bhiwani district, which you protected after I filed a report at AIV, is only one of several articles the IP-hopper has been repeatedly hitting. If there's going to be any point in protecting instead of blocking, then Haryana, History of Haryana and Bhiwani also need protection. IP vandal
Hi Ron, are you still an admin?
There's a disruptive IP (103.47.135.72) running around the motorsport articles, and I reported them to AIV. However, I don't think that I did it properly - I can't really remember how to in the case of IPs - and no further action was taken. Here is an example of their handiwork; they're adding content from a video game to articles about real-life championships. They first popped up at 2017 World Rally Championship, and I got temporary protection put in place, but as soon as it was protected, they went elsewhere.
Could you please look into it? Prisonermonkeys (talk) 05:09, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
- Busy aren't they. Lots of unsourced content all over the place. Found one page not reverted, so reverted and blocked 31 hours. I see no report from you at WP:AIV (If you edit the page there is hidden text to tell you how to format the addition). Ronhjones (Talk) 15:22, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:08, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
CopyQ
Dear Ronhjones,
Why did you delete CopyQ given that other clipboard manager also have a page?
Thanks!
orschiro (talk) 10:04, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
- The page was a proposed deletion (WP:PROD), by User:DGG as "not notable software". After 7 days, no-one had objected to the proposal, so it got deleted. Ronhjones (Talk) 17:30, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
- I objected on the Talk page. Is there any way I can object again? orschiro (talk) 18:08, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
- orschiro I can restore it for you, but it has no chance whatsoever of passing an AfD, wince the only reference you have is from Github. You need multiple references providing substantial coverage from third-party independent reliable sources, not press releases or mere announcements/ DGG ( talk ) 00:42, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- So, can we restore it and I will work on improving it by providing more third-party independent reliable sources? orschiro (talk) 07:13, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- As User:DGG says, it won't survive a AfD, so no point restoring it as a full article. I've therefore restored it to Draft, for improvement, when you have improved it, you can use the link in the banner to have it reviewed. Goto Draft:CopyQ Ronhjones (Talk) 15:43, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- This is great. Thanks so much! I will continue on the draft. :-) orschiro (talk) 15:44, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Protection for Indian elephant article
This article was occasionally vandalized, but the level of vandalism may not have been that high to justify semi-protection. Also, the article is less visited. Can you downgrade protection to PC? --George Ho (talk) 02:36, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
- Changed to PC. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:57, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
No disrespect, but did you read it? It is not the basis for an article but rather a request for financing for a very dubious project. He's a meth user and stated as much on his userpage, which I also reverted.John from Idegon (talk) 01:06, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- It's only a day old. He could be compiling data from various sources. we don't have a crystal ball into his/her mind. We should not bite the newbies. Google does not index Draft pages - that's the whole point in having them, it lets editors slowly gather their data piece by piece, without it having to be a passed article from the first save. Had he created the page direct in article space, then the outcome would be very different. Ronhjones (Talk) 01:13, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
